At least this is my second time going through this one. It is always a pleasure. The first time I experienced it, I was immediately drawn in by its charm. Now, on this second encounter, I find myself even more captivated. The details that I may have overlooked before now stand out, adding a new layer of depth to the overall experience. It was my sister who first introduced us to my niece's Vinyl Café CDs when we were on a long drive with our kids from my hometown to Osoyoos. It was an instant love affair. At first, I didn't know there were books related to the show since the CDs came from the broadcast.

In addition to the humor, this collection also contains at least two poignant stories that still manage to have their humorous moments. The book centers around Dave and Morley, along with their two kids and their dog, Arthur. Naturally, some of their neighbors and others also make appearances. In some of the other books, Dave may not be the main focus, even though he owns the Vinyl Café. However, most of the stories aren't set in the store either.

This review is rather disjointed due to my migraine, which makes it impossible for me to come anywhere close to McLean's humor. I recommend starting with a podcast or two, which are easily accessible through online searching. And unlike Dave's Truly Canadian Dictionary (a different Dave with no relation to Stuart McLean that I'm aware of, other than both being Canadian), you can still access these podcasts from Firefox.

A very light read that provides some good laughs along the way. Every once in a while, it is good to read a book like Vinyl Café. I can find myself relating to a lot of the events that occur. The characters in the story are so vivid and real.

Dave comes across as the prototypical male goof. His good-natured flaws provide many an experience that makes the readers chuckle. It's like a literary Curb Your Enthusiasm. And it also serves as the motivation for the Memories database.
