Read this for the second time to review for a book club. This is one that I vividly remember devouring a few years ago. It's a book that I constantly recommend to kids at the library.

And yet, I had forgotten almost everything about it except that the main character is a clone. I'm not even sure if I need to hide that detail since it's established early in the book, but oh well.

The book truly held up upon this reread. I listened to most of it on audio this time, and the reader was quite good. This is a dystopia that has a plethora of elements going on and not just one flashy gimmick. I'm extremely glad I got this review before reading The Lord of Opium. Now, I'll probably pick that up sooner than I原本 would have. I will definitely continue to recommend this book without hesitation.

“He has his good side and his bad side. Very dark indeed is his majesty when he wants to be. When he was young, he made a choice, like a tree does when it decides to grow one way or the other. He grew large and green until he shadowed over the whole forest, but most of his branches are twisted.”

This remarkable piece of literature is truly the epitome of dystopian writing. At its very core, it is a bildungsroman, a story that follows the growth and development of a character. The world it creates is vivid and immersive, pulling the reader in and making them feel as if they are part of this strange and often disturbing place. What makes it even more captivating are the intriguing ethical dilemmas that are presented throughout the narrative. The characters are forced to make difficult choices that have far-reaching consequences, and the reader is left to wonder what they would do in the same situation. It is a thought-provoking and engaging read that will stay with you long after you have finished the last page.
