Alexei Maximovich Peshkov, better known as Maxim Gorky, is a complex and controversial figure.

Born into a difficult and tragic background, he left his grandparents' home at the age of 12, either by choice or force. He later attempted suicide at 19, and then spent years wandering the Russian Empire, gathering素材 for his future works.

His early experiences led him to embrace Marxism, but he later became disillusioned with the Communist regime under Lenin and Stalin. He went into exile, but eventually returned to the USSR, where he became an apologist for the government.

Despite his flaws, Gorky was a talented writer, and his autobiographical work "My Childhood" is a masterpiece of Russian literature. The book provides a vivid and detailed account of life in Tsarist Russia, revealing the harsh realities of poverty, abuse, and alcoholism.

While the events described in the book may not be entirely accurate, they still offer valuable insights into the Russian mindset and culture. Overall, "My Childhood" is a must-read for anyone interested in Russian literature or history.
