When life becomes monotonous, it seems as if everything loses its luster and excitement. In such a state, even grief can be a welcome event. It breaks the dull routine and brings a new kind of emotion that, strange as it may sound, provides a sense of relief.

Similarly, a fire can also be a diversion. It is a sudden and unexpected event that disrupts the ordinary flow of life. The chaos and drama that accompany a fire can capture our attention and make us forget, if only for a moment, the monotony that has been plaguing us.

However, it is important to note that while grief and fire may offer a break from monotony, they also come with their own set of consequences. Grief can be overwhelming and difficult to overcome, while a fire can cause destruction and loss. We should not seek out these events deliberately, but rather find healthier ways to add variety and excitement to our lives.

In conclusion, when life is monotonous, we may be tempted to welcome even the most unlikely events as a form of diversion. But we must also be cautious and consider the long-term effects. Instead, we should look for positive and meaningful ways to break free from the cycle of monotony and create a more fulfilling life.

Such a wonderful book!

Besides how detailed this book depicts the poverty, sexual discrimination, and domestic violence, or how well it describes the lifestyle in 19th-century Russia, what I truly love about this book is the amazing storytelling through the kid.

Alexei witnesses everything around him and tells the readers what is happening. However, as expected from a kid, he cannot understand why all these things occur.

Nevertheless, when reading the book as an adult, we are aware of what is going on and why.

Not only what he lived through but also how defenseless, innocent, and pure yet joyful he is, makes me feel sorry for him.

Moreover, even two decades after, the treatment of women and children as described in the book still happens in many places.

Definitely a must-read book. It offers a profound and eye-opening look into a different era and society, while also making us reflect on the present and the issues that still persist.

The author's use of a child's perspective adds a unique and powerful dimension to the story, making it both heart-wrenching and thought-provoking.

This book is not only a literary masterpiece but also a call to action to address the inequalities and injustices that continue to exist in our world.

This is not a fictional story. I am reading a true life account. Such misfortunes have made me cry! What didn't happen to the author during that short period of time? On this small earth, all the joys and sorrows that one can feel had to be seen and understood in his/her one life. It all started with the father's death. Moments after the father's death, the birth and then the death of the younger brother. Then came the strict rule of the grandfather when he came to live with the grandmother. One event after another and whether it ended or not... I can't bear to go through it all.

This true story is really heart-wrenching. It makes us realize how unpredictable and cruel life can be. The author has endured so much pain and loss, yet still managed to share this story with us. It is a reminder that we should cherish every moment of our lives and be grateful for what we have.

We should also offer our support and kindness to those who are going through difficult times. Maybe a small gesture from us can make a big difference in someone's life. Let's all strive to make this world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.

There seem to be two kinds of people; and now I am also among those who read Gorki :) I have "My University" and "How I Learned to Read" to explore for free.

Gorki's works offer a unique perspective on life and society. His stories are filled with vivid characters and powerful emotions. Reading his books allows us to step into a different world and gain a deeper understanding of the human condition.

"My University" takes us on a journey through Gorki's own experiences in seeking knowledge and self-discovery. It shows the challenges and hardships he faced, as well as the valuable lessons he learned along the way.

"How I Learned to Read" is another inspiring piece that emphasizes the importance of education and the power of books. It reminds us that reading can open doors to new opportunities and broaden our horizons.

I am excited to embark on this literary adventure and discover the treasures hidden within Gorki's works.

I don't know or I can't imagine at all,

what the shape of the world would be without the existence of Russian literature, without Gogol, for example, or Gorky or Dostoyevsky!

The city belongs to you, Gorky, you little genie Yusha. You have allowed me and many generations after me for a hundred years to live with your wonderful Russian childhood.

I used to hope as I was reading that if I were in that time, your friend, to seriously keep you company and then gather straw with you and get several copies, steal with you, and read to you a little of the hymns, the poetry and the books.

Russian literature has had a profound impact on the world. It has given us a wealth of literary works that have touched the hearts of countless people. The works of Gogol, Gorky and Dostoyevsky are not only masterpieces of Russian literature, but also treasures of world literature. They have depicted the real life and human nature of Russia, and also reflected the common problems and emotions of human beings.

We should cherish and study Russian literature, and let its charm continue to shine in the world.

Maxim Gorky's Autobiography: A Glimpse into the Harsh Life of Russian Proletariat

Maxim Gorky, also known as Alexei Maksimovich Peshkov, was a unique Russian writer. His works mainly focused on the proletariat rather than the aristocracy or the middle class. In his autobiography, "Childhood," he vividly described the poverty and hardships of the Russian people.

Gorky lost his father at a young age, and his mother had to take him back to his grandfather's house. His grandfather was very strict and often punished him severely for the slightest mistakes. However, as the story progresses, Gorky gradually discovers that his grandfather is not entirely a bad person. His mother also had a difficult life, and most of Gorky's childhood was spent witnessing the terrible poverty, violence, and stupidity that consumed the lives of these people.

The superstitions and religious beliefs of the people also added to their endless sufferings. This can be clearly seen in Gorky's grandmother, who was a kind of heroine in the book and played an important role in shaping Gorky's childhood. The differences in beliefs and superstitions between his grandfather and grandmother reflected their different worldviews, which was described in an interesting way in the book.

Gorky once said that the beatings he received in his childhood made him unable to be indifferent to the sufferings of the helpless. This, along with all the other experiences he had, such as having to search for scraps among the garbage and beg for a few kopeks, helps us understand the reasons for his unique perspective. These reasons are deeply explored and revealed in this book.

3.5

"I finally understood that the Russian people, due to poverty and deprivation, have made anger their means of entertainment. Just as children play with their toys, they also immerse themselves in their misfortunes, and it is less likely that they will feel ashamed of their misfortunes. In the midst of their hard and monotonous lives, misfortune is also a kind of festival...;"

Childhood is the first part of Maxim Gorky's autobiography. Besides its inherent value of autobiography writing, it also has another value, which is to show the poverty and deprivation of the Russian proletariat.

Maxim Gorky was only five years old when he lost his father, and his mother had no choice but to take him back to his grandfather's house. His grandfather was extremely harsh and strict, and he would severely punish him for the tiniest mistakes. Nevertheless, throughout the book, Gorky gradually develops a soft spot for his grandfather and realizes that he is not really a bad person. He has also experienced the kindness of nature, which he has witnessed and felt throughout his life. His mother also had a hard time, and in short, most of Alexei's childhood was spent with his grandparents, witnessing the terrifying violence, poverty, and stupidity that devoured the lives of these people, and only the toughest, harshest, and most tenacious people could survive.

The superstitions and religious beliefs that prevailed among the people made the endless hardships and misfortunes of these unfortunate people more bearable. This can be seen clearly in Gorky's grandmother, who was also a kind of heroine in the book and had an important influence on the formation of his childhood. However, the differences in these beliefs and superstitions between his grandfather and grandmother indicated the different worldviews that these two people had towards the world, and this was described in an interesting way in the book and was very worthy of attention.

Maxim Gorky may be one of the most unique writers in Russia. His main works are written with a focus on the proletariat, not the aristocracy or even the middle class. He himself said that the beatings he received in his childhood made it impossible for him to be indifferent to the sufferings of the helpless. This, together with all the moments when Alexei was forced to search for scraps among the garbage and beg for a few kopeks and many other indignities, makes it clear that we can understand the reasons for this difference. The reasons for this difference can be well understood and explored in this book.

Glad I’m not a poor Russian boy growing up in rural 19th century Russia. The life there was likely filled with hardships and struggles that are hard to imagine. The beautiful and deeply sad bits described paint a vivid picture of a difficult existence. The monotony of everyday life was broken only by rare events like grief, which was almost like a holiday, and a fire, which served as an entertainment. It's a tragic yet thought-provoking reflection on the human condition. The line "A scratch embellishes an empty face" further emphasizes the sense of emptiness and the need for even the smallest of distractions or adornments in such a desolate environment. It makes one realize how fortunate we are today, living in a world with more opportunities and comforts. We should be grateful for what we have and not take our lives for granted.

Childhood is a gray and desolate picture of the life of the Russian people at that time. It is a painful past full of many events of the little boy Alexei - the main character of the work, who is also Maxim Gorky later.

One day, the family of the little boy Alexei, which was originally very happy, suddenly lost the pillar of the family, his wonderful father. The whole family had to move back to the poor countryside - a place where he had to endure beatings from his difficult grandfather every day; a place where there was no joy or a smile on Alexei's lips; a place where quarrels, conflicts, and even deaths occurred like a meal; in that place, there were painful people who always had to live a dark and desolate life. The land that was supposed to bring happiness to Alexei was called Nijni Novgorod.

Living in such a land and such a life, Alexei should have been protected in the warm embrace of his mother. But no. Instead, it was his grandmother who rescued the soul of the little boy from that boring life.

But perhaps, it is precisely because of the life of those painful people and also of Alexei himself that he has obtained the necessary luggage for life, so that he can step into the world and become a world-famous writer like this.

The childhood of the little boy Alexei is dyed with a painful color, the color of the extreme pain of the Russian people at that time. And perhaps because of this, Alexei took the name "Maxim Gorky" as his pen name - which means "bitter" in Russian.

"Those tears, those screams, and those conflicts that often occur and end very quickly. All of those have become familiar to me, making me less and less touched and only making my heart tremble very little. It was a long time later that I understood that the Russian people, because of their poor and sad life, generally like to amuse themselves with pain. They joke with it like a bug and rarely feel ashamed of misfortune. Among the endless days, pain is a festival and a house fire is a pastime. On a thin face, a scar also becomes an ornament..." - Alexei.

The first part of the selected works contains the author's autobiography in childhood. It is a life full of hardships, with sadness, poverty, ignorance, neglect, and cruelty. There is so much cruelty, more than a child in the stage of exploring the world can bear, and more than he can overcome without deep and eternal wounds.

However, this person's intelligence and his shining spirit have been present from the beginning. They continued to unfold and shine brightly above any circumstances, and all that destruction failed to bury them under its rubble.

My first reading of Maxim Gorky, and I think I started to love him because of that.

This childhood experience described by the author is truly heart-wrenching. It makes us realize how difficult life can be for some people. But at the same time, we can also see the author's tenacity and the power of his spirit. Despite the hardships, he did not give up. His intelligence and spirit allowed him to rise above the difficulties and move forward. It is this kind of perseverance and spirit that makes us respect and admire him.

Şayet Gorki'nin otobiyografik romanını okuduğumu bilmesem, bu denli ağır ve zor ve ızdırap dolu satırları neden okuyarak kendime ve ruhuma kötülük ettiğimi düşünürdüm.

Heck, when I try to look at it from the perspective of a mother, it becomes even more abhorrent and I can't understand it.

The most hopeful thing is to see that despite all these experiences, he has become a wonderful writer.

I will continue to follow the series completely and see what I will continue to feel?!

If you want to get to know the author with his own words apart from his works, please do so!

Happy readings!

This text seems to express the author's complex feelings about reading Gorki's autobiographical novel. The heavy and painful content makes the author question why they are reading it and treating themselves and their soul badly. Especially from a mother's perspective, it is even more difficult to understand. However, the fact that Gorki has become a great writer despite all his hardships gives some hope. The author decides to continue following the series to see what emotions will follow. They also offer the opportunity to get to know the author through his own words. Overall, it is a thought-provoking piece about the impact of reading and the power of literature.

An extraordinarily poignant account of the author's childhood unfolds before us. Gorky tells his story in such a vivid manner that it feels as if one were his intimate friend, with whom he can freely divulge his experiences of loss, lament, rage, isolation, and mischief.

Despite the cruel beatings he endured, the poverty and squalor of the industrial towns that he called home, and the overall bestial existence that surrounded him, Gorky did not allow himself to be shackled by an iron collar that would prevent him from looking back.

Remarkably, he managed to climb high enough to view the trail of his years that led to the stars. His determination and resilience in the face of such adversity are truly inspiring. It makes us realize that no matter how difficult life may seem, there is always hope and the possibility of rising above one's circumstances. Gorky's story serves as a powerful reminder of the human spirit's ability to overcome and strive for a better future.

I have read from three different publishers, and I haven't seen a translation as wonderful as this one. When talking about Gorky, the poetic nature of his language must be emphasized. When I read this trilogy, I had that feeling. Normally, I am a person who doesn't like descriptions, but here I was drawn in and couldn't put the book down.

This translation truly captures the essence and beauty of Gorky's work. It allows the reader to fully immerse themselves in the story and experience the emotions and atmosphere that the author intended.

The use of language in this translation is remarkable. It is both vivid and engaging, making the characters and settings come to life on the page.

I highly recommend this translation to anyone who is interested in Russian literature or simply enjoys a good read. It is a masterpiece that should not be missed.
