I am not an avid classics reader. In fact, the last classic I read was The Great Gatsby, and I must admit that I really hated it. However, this particular book was truly wonderful. It was full of the most strange and unusual things that kept me completely engaged from start to finish. I can clearly understand why the theory that Alice was either mentally ill or under the influence of drugs is so popular. As I was reading it, I couldn't help but think that Alice might have some sort of mental illness, especially with the way she would talk to and about herself.
But then, as I thought about it more deeply and realized how she was just a child and how old of a book this is, I came to see that it was really just a child's dream. It was magical, curious, confusing, and yet so endearing all at the same time. I found myself completely charmed by the story and the characters.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and now I have a strong desire to watch the movie. I'm excited to see how the filmmakers have brought this wonderful story to life on the big screen. I'm sure it will be a great experience, and I can't wait to see it.
The time has come,' the Walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of shoes — and ships — and sealing-wax —
Of cabbages — and kings —
And why the sea is boiling hot —
And whether pigs have wings.'
(Quote from Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There written by Lewis Carroll)
It has been at least 50 years, perhaps even more, since I last delved into this classic piece of literature. As a child, I was thoroughly entertained by the story of a girl named Alice. She tumbled down a rabbit hole and embarked on a remarkable adventure. She encountered strange animals that spoke in riddles and was ultimately captured by the Queen of Hearts before managing to find her way back home.
Now, as an adult, I perceive so much more of the fantastical world that Lewis Carroll so ingeniously created. I am filled with a sense of regret for waiting over 50 years to read it again. This time around, I am able to appreciate the depth and complexity of the story, the vivid imagery, and the clever wordplay. It is truly a literary masterpiece that continues to captivate readers of all ages.
