"Și tot mă ridic" by Maya Angelou is the dose of confidence, emotion, and vulnerability that all women need.

We discover a lyrical self that is not afraid to love or to suffer from love. We come across a vulnerable woman who has been through a lot and who is proud of both her successes and her failures. We find a female figure, with a body that she is proud of, regardless of its shape. We feel a soul that longs for love but does not lose hope when its heart is broken. We hear a voice that wants to contribute to the building of a better future, laying its foundation in a pure belief.

More about the volume of incredible intensity I wrote in an article published on the blog.

https://ciobanuldeazi.home.blog/2024/... This poem truly encapsulates the essence of a woman's journey. It shows that women can be strong and vulnerable at the same time. They can face the challenges of life with courage and still have the capacity to love deeply. Maya Angelou's words inspire us to rise above our difficulties and to embrace our true selves. Her work is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of believing in oneself.

The words in the poem "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou are truly powerful.

You may write me down in
history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very
dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.
It shows a remarkable spirit of resilience and determination. No matter how others try to bring the speaker down with their false accusations and demeaning actions, the speaker refuses to be defeated. They will rise above it all, just like dust that cannot be kept down. This poem serves as an inspiration to all of us, teaching us that we should never let the opinions or actions of others define us. We have the power within us to rise above any situation and shine brightly.

The caged bird sings

  with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

This collection is truly a masterpiece. It contains my all-time favorite poem, 'Caged Bird'. The poems in this collection vary marvelously in length and content. They celebrate womanhood and Black identity, lament love, and defy old age.

My favorite poems include 'Refusal', 'Just for a Time', 'Through the Inner City to the Suburbs', 'Lady Luncheon Club', 'Still I Rise', 'Ain't That Bad', 'On Aging', 'Caged Bird', 'Prelude to a Parting', 'The Last Decision', and 'My Life has Turned to Blue'. Each poem has its own unique charm and message.

I find myself constantly drawn back to this collection. I can see myself reading it again and again, discovering new meanings and interpretations each time. It is a work that will stay with me for a long time.

I just cried my eyes out as I ate this up while ignoring work.

It didn't occur to me that a poetry book would land on my all-time faves shelf on my 2024 bingo card. However, I should have known that Maya would quite literally open my chest and speak straight into my heart.

The words in this book are so powerful and moving that they have touched the deepest parts of my soul.

I cannot wait to read this again as well as everything else she has ever written.

Her writing is like a beautiful melody that lingers in my mind long after I have finished reading.

It has the ability to make me feel a whole range of emotions, from joy to sadness, from hope to despair.

Maya is truly a gifted writer, and I feel so fortunate to have discovered her work.

I will definitely be recommending this book to all of my friends and family.

I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us in the future.

Apart from her powerful poem 'Still I Rise’, which I have a deep love for, my knowledge of Maya Angelou's writing was rather limited. This little anthology, therefore, was a truly timely discovery for me. As I was reading aloud, a plethora of adjectives sprang to my mind: raw, sensual, melancholic, vital, lonely, fierce, irreverent, and so on. There was also a distinct musicality to some of the poems, leading me to think that they could effortlessly be utilized as lyrics. The format varies as well, ranging from the very short, not dissimilar to haikus, to a longer form with a more intricate thread. Many of them exuded this warmth, as if I could physically feel the sun beating down on me, while others were enshrouded in shadows. Some of the poems made me smile, but a great number left me lost in profound thoughts...

As one would anticipate, Angelou centers her attention on black lives, but also delves into women's lives and the themes of old age and experience, which was a pleasant surprise for me. Her voice truly shone through her writing, so powerful and evocative. Many of these poems seemed to 'converse' with me, both as a woman and as a person who has always felt like a foreigner no matter where I've resided. I'll conclude with an extract from one of her poems that truly encapsulates her:

"I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.”

Wow, just wow! I listened to it and was immediately captivated by the rhythm, confidence, and positivity it exuded. There were several poems such as "Refusal", "Remembrance", "Woman work", and "Still I rise" that truly resonated with me on a deep level.

The lines "mystery rapes my reason. When you have withdrawn yourself and the magic, when only the smell of your love lingers between my breasts, then, only then, can I greedily consume your presence." paint a vivid and passionate picture. It makes me wonder about the power of love and how it can both confound and consume us.

The question "What surety is there That we will meet again, On other worlds some Future time undated." adds an element of mystery and longing. It makes me think about the uncertainties of life and love, and how we often hope for something more, something that is beyond our current understanding.

The final stanza "You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I'll rise." is truly empowering. It shows the strength and resilience of the human spirit, and how we can overcome even the most difficult of circumstances. Overall, this collection of poems is a beautiful and inspiring work that I will surely be thinking about for a long time to come.

100000 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was truly a remarkable piece of work. It was so beautiful, with its lyrical language that seemed to flow like a gentle river. The whimsical nature of it took me on a journey through a world of nostalgia and carefully crafted images. It was playful, yet poetic, and had a dreamy quality that left me in a state of awe. There are so many other adjectives that I could use to describe it, but they just don't come to mind at the moment.

It's been quite some time since I've discovered a new favorite writer, but Maya Angelou's words have definitely made an impact on me. I know that I will be coming back to them for a long while. I feel as though I've been searching for this particular brand, type, or style of poetry for so long, and it came to me so unexpectedly. But I received it with open arms and a happy heart.

The way she describes nature, geography, love, family, age, selfhood, relationships, identity, and dreams is simply breathtaking. She manages to encapsulate so much in her words, and it's not only beautiful but also playful and a pleasure to read. I fell in love with so many poems in this collection, and I was stunned by the way she kept writing one lovely piece after another, consecutively, in a row. There wasn't a single poem that I didn't love, which is quite unusual for a poetry collection.

If I could give 10000 stars to "And Still I Rise", I would. This is mandatory reading for anyone who loves beautiful writing, which essentially means everyone.
