Nonetheless, I did not like it. I am always a little uncomfortable reviewing books of short stories. This is because one can enjoy one or two, but not others, making it difficult to review the whole book. Also, short stories are so, well, short! How can one review something that takes only half an hour to read? It is so mood-dependent whether one enjoys it or not.

Tobsha Learner has a pleasant literary style. The stories are descriptive and visual, with a dreamy quality as the characters drift through the stories lightly. I have read other short stories by the author, perhaps in a compilation, and they were enjoyable enough that I bought this book.

The real failing of it for me was that the back cover describes it as "twelve interlinked short stories". So, I was expecting common story arcs or some sort of interlinkage. However, as I kept reading, I got more and more annoyed when I didn't find it. Sure, a main character in one story observes the couple from a previous one, and a person on a park bench in one story was the main character in a previous one. But this is not a story arc.

Also, there was a sameness to the characters and stories, which meant I kept losing interest in what I was reading. As a result, it took me a very long time to finish it, and by the end, I wasn't finding it even a little bit erotic, just annoying.

Another collection of erotic short stories by this author was prominently featured with a positive review in, I firmly believe, Publisher's Weekly.

This, in turn, significantly piqued my interest in the author's work.

Quiver indeed had several interesting stories. What I truly liked was that all of them were interconnected in some fashion.

Several of the stories were crafted extremely well, exhibiting a high level of literary skill. However, on the other hand, some of the stories left a great deal to be desired on multiple levels.

The language employed in these stories is not for the faint of heart. Well, typically, the descriptions of sex made use of a diverse range of crude anatomical terms and acts that are not precisely mainstream (at least in my perception). Nevertheless, they will appeal to certain audiences without any problem.

Overall, Quiver had its good points, but a substantial portion of it simply wasn't to my taste.
