Another excellent instalment of the Woman's Murder Club series by Maxine Paetro!

I listened to this Audible audio book many years ago. At that time, all I could recall was that I truly, truly liked it! Now, I finally remember the reason!

The story is fast-paced and exciting from beginning to end. The revelation at the end is extremely shocking and takes me completely by surprise! What a great book it is!

I have no hesitation in recommending not only this book but also the entire Woman's Murder Club series. It is one of my all-time favorite series!

I also enjoy the narrator, Carolyn McCormick. She did a great job as always, bringing the story to life with her wonderful narration.

*Note: While James Patterson is listed as the coauthor, this book was written primarily by Maxine Paetro. I just wanted to give credit where credit is due.

Lindsay continues to investigate some of the crimes that occur in her city, especially those where the clues are scarce and the crime is visibly atrocious.

One night, during a pursuit to catch a murderer, her life changes abruptly. Now facing a trial for "Police Brutality" and "Excessive Force", with her life on hold, she decides to go to her sister's house to rest.

Although her intention is just that, a couple of murders in the town catch her attention, and her inner investigator cannot let them pass because they are related to the first case she worked on as a detective. But will she be able to help catch these criminals? Will she be able to survive the trial? Will she be able to continue with her job after all this is over or will she decide that she must change her life for her own good?

In this book, we see many blind spots in the investigation. It tries to focus more on the psychological problem of the protagonist, but without completely succeeding. In addition, it also tries to focus on 2 cases, without being fully involved in either, which gave me the feeling that many things were missing, many details that were left hanging in both cases.

All in all, the book was entertaining, but not as much as the previous ones. So I'm going to stop this series here for now. Maybe I'll continue it later.

Slightly, just slightly better than others from the series, the plots (two, as usual) have some consistency.

The pace is alert, which makes the book quite readable.

The final, a weird one, is hard to be guessed and does increase the value of the novel.

However, there are three facts I dislike.

First, the romancing part of the series, in which I'm not interested at all.

Second, Lindsay's disability in making DECENT (at least...) arrests. We can also see this in "The Fifth Rider".

Third, Lindsay's poor management of the mobile phone. This makes her look like a truly idiot, puts her life in danger more than once and her relations in peril.

PS: The four stars are in fact just three and (maybe...) a half, but sometimes we have to defend our choices.

I'm always eagerly looking forward to a new crime series to read, so I decided to give the first couple of these a try.

The series centers around three women from San Francisco: Lindsay Boxer, who is a Police Officer, Cindy Thomas, a Reporter, and Claire Washburn, a Medical Examiner.

As they solve various crimes, the books also delve into each character's personal lives, adding an extra layer of depth and complexity.

I've only read the first four installments so far, and I quite liked them. They were enjoyable enough, but for some reason, I wasn't completely hooked to the point where I felt an urgent need to grab the fifth one. Maybe it's because the storylines didn't have that certain something that would make me completely obsessed. However, I still think it's a decent series and might give the fifth book a chance in the future.

*****update*****

I liked Jill's replacement. I also liked having Lindsay be off duty for this one.

This update provides some personal preferences. The author expresses their satisfaction with Jill's replacement, suggesting that the new person has met or exceeded their expectations. Additionally, they mention that they appreciate Lindsay being off duty, perhaps indicating that her absence has had a positive impact on the situation or that they prefer the dynamic without her. Overall, this update gives some insights into the author's feelings and opinions.

In this captivating book, we are once again immersed in the thrilling life of Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer.

This time, she finds herself embroiled in a fierce battle to safeguard her reputation as a cop. Simultaneously, an unknown predator lurks in the shadows, deeply perturbed by how perilously close Lindsay is getting to uncovering the truth.

This installment is the fourth in the Woman's Murder Club Series, yet it has not in the slightest diminished its allure or readability. I am truly enamored with the way it continuously keeps readers on the edge of their seats, guessing precisely who committed which act right up until the very last page. The most blatant choice is often not the correct one, and more often than not, the plot takes a dramatic turn that sends you into a tailspin.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this book, along with the previous ones in this series, to anyone with a penchant for cop drama mysteries. I rate it four out of five stars.

Cheesy? Yes!

Well written? Not exactly.

Entertaining as hell? Absolutely!

I admit...I'm hooked on these books.

James Patterson is no literary genius, but he can sure throw together compelling, gripping crime thrillers.

This particular book was the best in this series so far!

It was thoroughly entertaining from start to finish.

The story was filled with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

The characters were well-developed and engaging, and I found myself really rooting for them.

Even though the writing style may not be the most sophisticated, it didn't matter because the story was so good.

I can't wait to see what Patterson has in store for us in the next book of the series.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good crime thriller.

I think I'll always have a great fondness for James Patterson's novels.

His works are highly entertaining, with short chapters that make them a breeze to read. They are filled with intense action, and the cases that Lindsay and her friends handle are truly captivating.

However, there is one aspect that sometimes nags at me when I'm reading a mystery book penned by Patterson, and that's the rather silly writing style. I often find myself chuckling at Lindsay's thoughts and the conversations she has with her female friends.

Despite this, I'm still going to rate this book 4 stars, albeit a low 4. You see, I seem to have this strange inability to rate books lower than 4 stars, which is a bit of a conundrum. :)))

James Patterson has joined forces with Maxine Paetro in this fourth installment of the Women's Murder Club series. I'm delighted to state that I relished this one far more than the previous one, which was penned with Andrew Gross.

While I would have preferred to witness more contributions from the other members of the club (as this particular one focused almost entirely on Lt Lindsay Boxer), it remained an outstanding book. It was fast-paced, constantly keeping you in suspense until the very end. With an unexpected killer that I hadn't anticipated, it was undoubtedly a thriller in the traditional James Patterson style.

I would highly recommend "The 4th of July." Moreover, I'd assert that this can easily be read as a standalone. Now that the books seem to have regained their momentum, I'm eagerly looking forward to "The 5th Horseman."

I truly had a great fondness for this particular one.

It was truly captivating from the very beginning.

The story unfolded in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning the pages.

And then, the twist at the end!

It completely took me by surprise.

I never saw it coming.

It was like a bolt out of the blue that added an entirely new dimension to the whole narrative.

It made me look back at the story with a new perspective and appreciate all the little details that led up to that moment.

Overall, it was an outstanding piece that left a lasting impression on me.

I can't wait to share it with others and see their reactions as well.

It's definitely a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good story with a thrilling twist.

I am truly enjoying this process of revisiting this remarkable series. The fourth instalment, although not quite on par with the first one, is still a rather good read. In fact, I firmly believe that the first book is the absolute best in the entire series (at least among the ones I've read so far). So, perhaps I shouldn't be comparing any of the subsequent instalments to that initial masterpiece.

Lyndsey Boxer finds herself on trial for the shooting of a teenage girl and her brother. Tragically, the girl lost her life, and the brother is now left paralysed. Lyndsey fired in self-defence after the kids had shot and wounded Jacobi, her long-time partner, and also took a shot at her. On the surface, it seems quite straightforward. However, Lt Boxer had indulged in a little drink with her dinner, and the defence is now alleging that she was drunk when she shot the kids.

Simultaneously, there is another case unfolding in the background that Lyndsey must solve. She becomes the target of attacks, is shot at, and even gets kicked off the force. But, as is typical with any James Patterson novel, everything works out in the end, well, mostly.

The writing in this book is excellent - classic JP and Maxine Paetro. This writing duo is an exception to my general belief that his co-authored works are slightly inferior compared to his solo efforts. I truly relish reading this series.

This instalment is definitely worth a read. I would highly recommend starting from the beginning and reading them all, but it can also be enjoyed on its own.

I read this book first in the series. At that time, I did not realize that the 4th of July signified that it was the 4th in the series.

Afterward, I decided to go back and read the first three books. I had this thought that having knowledge of the previous books would somehow make this one better.

I was curious to see if there were any connections or details that I might have missed by starting with the fourth book.

As I delved into the earlier installments, I discovered that there were indeed some references and character developments that added depth to the overall story.

The experience of reading the series in this way was quite interesting. It allowed me to see how the author had built the world and the relationships between the characters over time.

Although I could have enjoyed the fourth book on its own, reading the first three gave me a more comprehensive understanding and enhanced my enjoyment of the entire series.
