So, to this day, I'm left wondering if I truly finished reading the entire book or if there was something more that I might have missed.

The intention is for each killing to seem like the work of local rebels who hope to overthrow the government. The use of machetes is part of this plan to create that impression.

What has made these crimes extremely difficult to solve is the complete absence of witnesses. However, this situation changes rapidly when an American hotel worker, whose girlfriend becomes a victim, is able to identify some crucial identifying details. These details will prove to be instrumental in linking the crimes to Damian.

As the story unfolds, the rate of the murders escalates, and some even occur on the American mainland. This fast-paced tale is characteristic of Patterson's writing style. Nevertheless, there is no strong narrator to help bind the plot together. Instead, the reader is hastily propelled from one murder to the next, from the perspective of each victim. The events are tenuously tied together by a mysterious series of journal entries about the times. Consequently, it is rather challenging to truly establish a connection with any of the characters.

This is a very intriguing book!

All in all, it wasn't his best work. It's understandable that as an author progresses, their writing skills improve and they produce more polished and engaging works.

Characters in this story weren't truly developed in great detail. However, I still found myself strongly supporting one particular character. I really wanted him to survive. Since this was a thriller, I was okay with characters being presented in this way.

I'm a "completer", which means that once I start a book, I have the determination to finish it, unless it's really, really bad. There were several occasions when I almost gave up on this particular book. I kept telling myself, "Surely it's going to get better." But unfortunately, it never did.

The movie was rather disappointing.

I would have really liked to see the characters more fully developed. Their personalities and motives felt somewhat shallow, and it would have added so much depth to the story if we could have understood them better.
