And then I managed to reach book 3, but all my faith had been lost by then. It's not that this is a truly awful series. In fact, many people have really enjoyed it. However, it just didn't click with me. Maybe it was the writing style, or the plot didn't grip me as tightly as I had hoped. For these reasons, I gave it 2 stars. It was a difficult decision because I could see that there were aspects of the series that others might find appealing. But unfortunately, I had to put this book down before I finished it. I really did try my best to get into it, to understand why so many people liked it. But in the end, it just wasn't meant to be.
The Women's Murder Club, in their third installment, find themselves plunged into a complex and dangerous investigation. What they initially believe to be counter-culture terrorists are at the center of their inquiries. Meanwhile, Jill's husband becomes a suspect in a battery case, adding another layer of drama to the already tense situation. This book, unfortunately, doesn't quite measure up to the second one. It feels overly dramatic, and Boxer's new love interest and story seem to be a virtual replica of her experiences in the first book. However, despite these flaws, it remains a very readable piece. One can't help but wonder how Patterson manages to keep readers engaged, even when the story has its shortcomings. Overall, it earns a rating of 4 out of 12.
