Yea man, I really like Carl Hiaasen.

However, in my opinion, his books seem to blend together a bit.

For example, this one, in my view, followed the exact same structure and pattern as Double Whammy.

I have to admit that I didn't read the last like 30 pages because I just lost interest.

I think this book had the comedy that I expected, but the plot and mystery were really lacking.

The beginning and middle really kept me super intrigued, but I wasn't happy with where the conclusion was going.

That being said, big shoutout to Carl.

I'm sure this one was just a miss for me, but I'll definitely come back to another one of his books later.

I still have high hopes for his other works and believe that he has the ability to create more engaging and captivating stories.

Maybe the next book will be the one that really blows me away and makes me forget about this one's shortcomings.

Only time will tell, but for now, I'll keep an eye out for his next release.

Carl Hiaasen's works are truly remarkable.

They are not only extremely funny but also intelligent, witty, and highly creative.

What makes them even more appealing is that they almost always have a happy ending, which is a delight for readers.

From the imaginative characters to the thrilling adventures, and the masterful use of irony and sarcasm, Hiaasen keeps his readers on the edge of their seats, constantly guessing how everything will work out for the best.

And in his books, things do indeed work out well, which is one of the many reasons why I love them.

I always find myself admiring the good qualities of his heroes and easily despising the villains.

I cheer when the villains meet their demise, no matter how creative the fashion in which it occurs.

Another aspect that I really like about Hiaasen's works is the positive ecological theme that runs throughout many of his books.

His works are not only great diversions in life but also, if you look at them the right way, they might even give you a surprising and improved perspective.

Perhaps this is simply because of the numerous laugh-out-loud moments that his books offer.

Overall, Carl Hiaasen's works are a must-read for anyone looking for an entertaining and thought-provoking literary experience.

Erin Grant has found herself in a desperate situation. In order to secure custody of her daughter, she has had to resort to stripping to make some money. Her ex, on the other hand, has a rather shady job of stealing wheelchairs. However, this criminal is also a snitch, which means his illegal activities remain hidden from the family court, allowing him to obtain custody.

During one of Erin's performances, a groom-to-be gets overly excited. Congressman Dilbeck then intervenes by pummeling the man with a champagne bottle. Mr. Peepers captures the entire event in pictures and assures Erin that he can exert pressure on Dilbeck, who in turn can influence the family court judge. Dilbeck brings in Malcolm "Moldy" Moldowsky, the fixer. Tragically, the end result is a dead Mr. Peepers.

The mystery continues to unfold, with more dead bodies piling up and involving the charming bouncer of the strip club, who is trying to cash in on a fraudulent lawsuit.

Hiaasen has crafted a witty and hilarious mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. It keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, eagerly turning the pages to discover what will happen next. The characters are well-developed and the plot is full of twists and turns that make it impossible to put down.

I have had the pleasure of reading other books by Hiaasen and I also liked the movie adaptation of this particular one. However, when it came to reading "Striptease" itself, I didn't have an enjoyable experience.

I found the story to be rather mean-spirited and overly violent. The characters didn't really evoke any sympathy from me. It seemed as if everyone was portrayed in a very one-dimensional way, either completely good or completely bad. There was no complexity or nuance to them.

I understand that character development might not be the main focus of a book like this, but still, I had expected it to be funnier. Instead, it felt quite dark and left me with a rather negative impression. Overall, it wasn't the kind of reading experience that I had hoped for.

I read this book when it first hit the shelves, long before they decided to turn it into a movie, and I absolutely adored it. However, either my preferences have evolved over the years, or perhaps this book simply wasn't as uproariously funny as I initially believed it to be.

During this second encounter with the novel, I was dismayed to find that the characters seemed one-dimensional, as flat as a can of soda that has lost all its fizz. The plot, which centers around a divorced woman who resorts to stripping (or "dancing" as she likes to call it) in order to raise the money to pay her lawyer and regain custody of her daughter, is rather predictable. The ex-husband is portrayed as so unfit that he borders on being a caricature. Typical Floridian politics also play a role in the plot, along with several murders, a kind-hearted cop who rides in to save the day, and not a hint of a love interest.

With its trite plot, lackluster characters, and an abundance of gratuitous nudity, this re-read was a rather painful experience for me. It's a shame that my initial impression of the book has been so thoroughly shattered.

I had already seen the movie when I read the book.

The movie was astonishingly similar to the book, which meant there weren't a plethora of surprises for me.

It felt as if I was reliving the same story in a different format.

I'm certain that I would have held a greater appreciation for the book if I had read it prior to seeing the movie.

Perhaps then, the details and nuances that might have been overlooked in the movie would have been more prominent and captivating.

The book could have painted a more vivid picture in my mind, allowing me to imagine the scenes and characters in a more personal and unique way.

Nevertheless, it was still interesting to compare the two and see how the filmmakers had translated the written word onto the screen.

Overall, while the movie was enjoyable, I can't help but think that my experience with the book would have been enhanced if I had approached it in a different order.

This was my airport/plane read on the way to Korea.

Of course, the plane had about 35 movies on demand, so I didn't read too much. However, the book was only okay anyway.

It's about a stripper in Florida who gets involved in a "zany" political scandal. He is more satirical than Elmore Leonard but much less gritty, although it does have a significant body count.

I've liked some of Hiaasen's other works, but I couldn't engage with the main character. He creates a world that operates as he would like. The bad guys are punished, and the strippers are noble. Especially after reading that last stripper book "Candy Girl" - which was excellent - this one was disappointing.

It was a light read that didn't really satisfy my craving. Maybe I read it too soon after another light read. I was hoping for more depth and complexity in the story and the characters. But overall, it was an okay book to pass the time on the plane.

What's not funny about a strip club called the Eager Beaver?

Well, it turns out to be a very funny mystery indeed. It had me laughing out loud on several occasions. The story is filled with so many interesting and unique characters that at times, I did get a bit confused. However, despite that, it was still well worth a listen.

The way the plot unfolds and the humorous situations that arise make it an engaging and entertaining experience. Each character brings their own charm and quirkiness to the table, adding to the overall hilarity.

Overall, I would rate this mystery a solid 7 out of 10. It's not perfect, but it definitely has its moments that will keep you entertained and laughing. If you're looking for a light-hearted and funny mystery, this one is definitely worth checking out.

Good summertime read/listen.

4 Vaseline-covered stars. :D

I've read/listened to 3 of Hiassen's books so far, and they're truly very deceptive.

On one hand, they offer mindless fun, being hilarious and farcical. They delight in poking fun at a state that constantly seems to be in the news due to its over-the-top citizens. One can't help but wonder if he gets his book ideas from the local evening news.

On the other hand, the books are actually complex and clever. They are like massive Gordian knots that are neatly untied by the end.

At any rate, I'm completely hooked and I'll definitely keep reading them!

His writing style is engaging, and the stories are filled with unique characters and unexpected plot twists. It's the perfect combination for a great summertime escape.

Whether you're lounging by the pool or on a long road trip, Hiassen's books are sure to provide entertainment and a few laughs.

I can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

This book is hilarious!

The audiobook narration is truly fantastic. It is so well done that I felt as if each character had his or her own distinct and unique voice. I have to say that I particularly enjoyed listening to Dillbeck's lines. The narrator does an absolutely superb job at representing his personality, bringing the character to life in a truly vivid way.

I once told someone that this book would make a great movie. Well, it turns out that I didn't get the memo because, apparently, it was made into a movie back in 1996 with Demi Moore playing the role of Erin Grant. However, I never watched the movie because I don't really have much interest in her acting. But now, after having read this book and being so entertained by it, maybe I'll give the movie a chance and watch it.

The more Hiaasen's books I read, the more I find myself liking him. He has a very unique sense of humor, a funny and twisted way of looking at the world that really appeals to me. His stories are always filled with interesting characters and unexpected plot twists that keep me engaged from start to finish. I can't wait to read more of his work.
