If you haven't delved into the works of Carl Hiaasen, the former Miami Herald columnist renowned for his satirical, environmental-questioning, and politically-malfeasant novels set in Florida, all cleverly disguised as murder mystery novels (akin to a somewhat fuzzy Edward Abbey), then this review might not be for you.
I've long since given up attempting to decipher the sequence of Hiaasen's novels. Fortunately, my local library has a good selection, and I simply pick up whatever is available on the shelf. I'm uncertain precisely where Strip Tease fits within the Hiaasen canon, but I would highly recommend it as an entertaining and humorous read. It doesn't overly burden the reader with excessive political commentary and isn't overly complicated by his characteristic swamp caricatures.
A friend has suggested that Native Girl is an even better offering, but I feel the need to read something more substantial before indulging in another Hiaasen novel. After all, too much of this light-hearted "mind sugar" might potentially rot one's brain.
If you must know, the story line of Strip Tease revolves around a stripper in a tittie bar who, despite facing numerous trials and tribulations, ultimately emerges victorious (in more ways than one).
