The story is absolutely perfect right up until the last two pages, which I could have done without. However, for anyone who worries about such things, it is still basically a happy ending.

I would highly recommend this book to those individuals who have a deep love for animals and possess a great sense of humor.

What a truly wonderful read aloud experience my 8-year-old daughter and I had to share!

She has an absolute adoration for dogs, and the fact that this book is written from a dog's perspective immediately captured her attention. What really hooked me, however, was the incredibly beautiful writing. I highly doubt that my daughter knew more than 60% of the words, and yet she thoroughly enjoyed every single page. I especially loved those moments when I'd be taking a breath and I would hear her ask "What does _____ mean?" Sometimes, I even had to look up the word myself!

I think I'm going to have my 13-year-old son read this book as well to help stretch his vocabulary.

My only complaint, unfortunately, is that the illustrations were of such a far lower quality and intelligence compared to the narrative. In fact, I didn't even bother showing them to my daughter as they simply didn't fit at all. It's a shame because the story itself was so engaging and captivating.

This is not my favorite Lois Lowry book. She has indeed written some truly amazing stories that have captured the hearts and imaginations of readers. However, this particular volume is still a delightful one.
