A very interesting analysis indeed. Blamires’ presumptions about what a Christian is pervade throughout the book. In my view, these presumptions undermine the entire thesis of the work.

The trouble lies not in the fact that Christians have lost the ability to think Christianly (and that this can or should be analyzed and, if possible, reversed). Rather, it is more that the Churches have become filled with non-regenerate church members. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, on the other hand, had his finger on the pulse of his generation. He provided a far better analysis. Why? Because he had a better theology.

So, what exactly is a true Christian? This is a question that needs to be explored further. It is not simply about attending church or professing a certain belief. A true Christian is someone who has had a genuine encounter with God, who has been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and who lives a life that is characterized by love, holiness, and obedience to God’s Word.

We need to be careful not to make the mistake of assuming that just because someone is a member of a church, they are a true Christian. We need to look beyond the outward appearance and examine the inner heart. Only then can we truly understand what it means to be a Christian in today’s world.

Great book!

The author presents a highly convincing argument that a significant number of Christians often think in a manner similar to non-Christians, merely with a sprinkling of Christian terminology added.

However, Blamires firmly believes that our Christian beliefs should have a profound and radical impact on our way of thinking.

He contends that being a Christian should not just be about using religious language but should transform our entire perspective on life, values, and decision-making.

This book challenges readers to examine their own thought processes and consider whether their Christian faith is truly influencing the way they view the world around them.

It offers valuable insights and encourages Christians to strive for a more authentic and integrated approach to their faith, one that is reflected in every aspect of their lives.

Overall, it is a thought-provoking and engaging read that has the potential to inspire positive change in the way Christians think and live.

While the work in question may be dated, it still holds a certain superiority over later criticisms of Christian anti/non-intellectualism put forth by scholars such as Wells and Noll.

It offers valuable insights and perspectives that have endured through the years.

However, it is important to note that the elitist final chapter detracts from the overall value of the work.

This chapter seems to alienate a significant portion of the readership and may have limited the work's broader impact.

Nevertheless, despite this flaw, the earlier sections of the work remain relevant and worthy of consideration.

They provide a comprehensive analysis of the complex relationship between Christianity and intellectualism, challenging readers to think deeply about these issues.

Overall, while not without its faults, this work still has much to offer in the ongoing discussion of Christian anti/non-intellectualism.

This book was penned in 1963.

Its fundamental premise is that the secular mindset has insidiously infiltrated, overwhelmed, and ultimately replaced thinking Christians with secularized ones.

It contends that the thinking Christian has succumbed to the secular thinking paradigms of mid-20th century Western Europe.

I believe that this is no longer the situation, as secular thinking is now being recognized as lacking a moral foundation.

Christian thinking, for instance, considering social, political, and economic policies from an eternal perspective, is becoming increasingly prevalent among the Christians of our generation.

Nevertheless, having said this, I can still observe how the Christian mind has been compromised, particularly within the realm of sexuality.

There are still many challenges and issues that Christians face in maintaining a truly Christian perspective in this area, as the influence of secular culture continues to exert its pull.

It is essential for Christians to remain vigilant and grounded in their faith to resist the encroachment of secular thinking and uphold the values and teachings of Christianity.

Mr. Blamires approaches from an Anglican perspective.

Although there were certain aspects in this book that I didn't entirely concur with, the overall message it conveys is extremely good, and there are some truly outstanding chapters.

Definitely, there are some underlined paragraphs that I will be referring back to.

The book poses a fundamental problem: there is currently no Christian mind.

In other words, Christians have abandoned the battleground of the Christian worldview-warfare.

By restricting Christianity to only the "spiritual" realm, we have permitted secularism to have the ultimate say in all the other aspects of life, such as business, politics, economics, and so on.

Mr. Blamires sounds the battle cry for reclaiming those areas for Christ and viewing everything anew from a Christian mindset.

This call to action is both timely and crucial in today's society where the influence of Christianity seems to be waning in many areas.

It challenges Christians to重新审视 their role and actively engage in shaping the world around them from a Christian perspective.

Overall, the book offers valuable insights and serves as a wake-up call for the Christian community.

This was an extremely significant book in my intellectual growth.

It poses the crucial question of our era for Christians that strikes at the core of our worldview.

Nonetheless, every time I peruse it, I become aware of certain aspects:

Firstly, my previous difficulties in grasping parts of the book were, to some extent, due to my own indolence in reading.

Secondly, it is also because it is a dislocating book, intended to challenge and set apart by several decades.

And, consequently, at times Blamires appears as a bit of a grouch - in a kind of Gadfly-loving, intelligent uncle sort of manner.

Therefore, there are few nowadays who would take the time to bridge the gap to obtain the key materials while disregarding the grumpy and immaterial bits.

The book requires to be rewritten for new contexts, and I'm quite certain I'm not the one to do it, although I would very much like to.

Thought provoking indeed! There are some extremely good points presented here regarding how a Christian should think.

It makes one really stop and reflect on the various aspects of a Christian's thought process and how it should be guided by their faith.

However, I find myself a little confused by the author's strong conviction that the Thinking Christian is somehow meant to influence the kingdoms of this world.

While it is understandable that Christians may have a desire to have a positive impact on society, the idea of directly influencing the kingdoms of this world seems a bit more complex.

There are many different interpretations and perspectives within Christianity on how exactly this should be achieved, if at all.

Some may argue that it is through acts of kindness, charity, and living a life that reflects the values of Christ.

Others may believe that there is a more active role that Christians should play in the political and social arenas.

Nevertheless, the author's观点certainly gives rise to further discussion and exploration on this important topic.

This is a deeply important book, especially in this era of QR codes, TikTok, and celebrity presidents.

Essentially, Christians nowadays have become content with thinking secularly about spiritual matters. They need to relearn what it means to think "christianly". This involves having an awareness of evil and a perspective of eternity, among other things.

The book can be a bit difficult to read at times, but for me, it is well worth the effort. It challenges our assumptions and forces us to think more deeply about our faith.

In a world that is constantly changing and evolving, it is crucial for Christians to have a solid foundation in their beliefs. This book provides that foundation and helps us to navigate the complex spiritual landscape of the modern world.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in deepening their understanding of the Christian faith and learning how to think "christianly" in today's society.
