Gilda is a truly remarkable and eccentric teenager. Her psychic investigations and writings are not only engaging but also a source of great entertainment.

However, this particular book has a more serious undertone compared to the first Gilda Joyce mystery. Nevertheless, the story remains captivating and of high quality.

Gilda commences her studies at a private school for girls, convinced that it is haunted. With determination, she sets out to investigate this phenomenon and solve the mystery of the ghost. This pursuit doesn't endear her to her classmates, but Gilda is unfazed.

Surprisingly, her investigation leads to unexpected revelations, and she discovers more than she initially bargained for.

I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to read about more of Gilda's thrilling adventures.

Gilda Joyce and The Ladies of the Lake
By Jennifer Allison
Status: Read in Feb 2012

Jennifer Allison's novel, "Gilda Joyce and The Ladies of the Lake," has the remarkable ability to quickly draw readers in.

Readers easily find themselves joining ranks with Gilda, eager to uncover the secrets that Our Lady Sorrow of Peace conceals.

Gilda Joyce, a freshman, is awarded a scholarship to attend Our Lady of Sorrows, an exclusive Catholic school.

However, she soon discovers that the school seems to be haunted by the ghost of Dolores Lamberet, a girl who drowned in the lake outside the school three years ago.

When Gilda stumbles upon notes from a secret society on campus, the Ladies of the Lake, she becomes embroiled in one of the most dangerous cases yet.

As she delves deeper into the mystery, Gilda uncovers the truth that Dolores was killed during a club initiation act.

Allison masterfully weaves a narrative that not only reveals the consequences of hazing but also shows the guilt and remorse that torments the girls responsible as they strive to bury their dark secret.

This novel is more than just a mystery; it forces readers to consider the characters' motives and our own motives in life as well.

It will be most appealing to young adult girl audiences, captivating them with its engaging story and thought-provoking themes.

I completed listening to this audiobook only to realize later that it was the second in a series. My OCD compels me to listen to or read things in sequential order. However, I still derived a great deal of enjoyment from this story.

The characters were extremely believable, which added to the overall charm of the narrative. The somewhat suspenseful storyline had such a hold on me that I found myself constantly thinking about it even when I was not actively engaged with the audiobook.

Gilda has been awarded a scholarship to attend a Catholic high school. This is due in part to her creative writing talent and also because of her mother's boyfriend pulling some strings. Right from the start, it becomes evident that things are not as they appear, and Gilda feels a sense of duty to bring three popular senior girls to justice. These girls may have been involved in the death of one of their classmates, which occurred when they were freshmen.

Undoubtedly, this is a book that will appeal to kids who have a penchant for spooky reads and relish characters who strive to make things right. It offers an engaging and thought-provoking experience that is sure to keep young readers on the edge of their seats.

Like any other psychic investigator, Gilda had a burning desire to investigate the ghost that was said to haunt a school she was about to visit. However, it proved to be an extremely tough task for her.

She scoured every corner of the school, but was unable to find sufficient evidence to commence her investigation. Undeterred, Gilda continued to wander around the school, her eyes peeled for any mysterious clues that might present themselves.

Then, one fateful day, Gilda made a remarkable discovery. She found a key, a key that was said to unlock a room that had remained unused ever since the tragic incident when the Ghost drowned in the lake.

This key held the promise of揭开 the secrets that lay within the school and perhaps finally solving the mystery of the Ghost. Gilda's heart raced with anticipation as she clutched the key tightly in her hand, ready to embark on the next phase of her investigation.

Gilda is truly an incredibly funny person!!!

Her sense of humor is just out of this world. Every time I see her or hear her jokes, I can't help but burst out laughing.

I have this intense desire for her to be my friend in real life. I can only imagine how much fun it would be to hang out with her on a daily basis.

We could share countless laughs, have hilarious conversations, and create memories that would last a lifetime.

I'm sure she would bring so much joy and entertainment into my life.

I really hope that one day, my wish will come true and Gilda will become my IRL friend.

This second installment of Gilda's adventures was rather good. However, her psychic abilities didn't feature nearly as prominently as they did in the first one. Instead, she relied more on her intelligence and common sense, which, overall, worked out quite well.

Despite the absence of actual psychic events, I have to give credit to Allison for placing Gilda in a somewhat challenging situation where she has to choose between doing what is right or what is easy. After presenting her evidence to the authority figure who could actually make things right, we see that the authority figure seems to struggle with the evidence and whether or not to go to the police. Even worse, the authority figure punishes Gilda for bringing to light the uncomfortable and inconvenient truth.

I'm checking out the third one today and I simply can't wait because in it, Gilda goes to Oxford, England! I'm really looking forward to seeing what new adventures and challenges await her in this prestigious and historic location. It's bound to be an exciting read!

The book truly exceeded my expectations!!! I was completely enamored with the entire collection of new characters. They brought diverse moods and added different levels to an already magnificent story.

Particularly, I adored the ladies of the lake. With their seemingly perfect and authoritative facades, their mysterious and haunting pasts made them even more captivating.

I believe the author did an outstanding job in maintaining Gilda's character throughout the story while also allowing for growth and change. She shed her prejudice towards the upper class, yet still remained sarcastically hilarious.

Overall, I found that Gilda's investigation in the large and spooky castle of her new private school provided an exciting continuation of this amazing series. It kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning the pages to discover what would happen next. I can't wait to see what adventures Gilda will embark on in the future installments of this series.

How does she do it?

It's truly remarkable how the author manages to create such an engaging and captivating story.

It's such a good read that it's hard to put down.

I have a particular affinity for the main character, Gilda Joyce.

Jen Allison has an incredible talent for bringing her characters to life.

All of her characters feel so real, as if they could step out of the pages and into the real world.

Their emotions, thoughts, and actions are so well-developed and believable.

It's as if we are given a peek into their lives and get to experience their joys and sorrows along with them.

This makes the reading experience all the more immersive and enjoyable.

I can't wait to see what other wonderful stories Jen Allison has in store for us.

I absolutely adored this one!

It is the second installment in the Gilda Joyce series, and in my opinion, it is even better than the first.

The heroine, a 13-year-old psychic investigator, might share some similarities with Harriet the Spy, but she is truly one of a kind.

I have never come across another character quite like her.

This complex, spooky, and suspenseful mystery is set in a rather strange and exclusive Catholic girls' school.

Apparently, the school is haunted by a freshman who drowned in the school's lake three years earlier.

The story is completely riveting.

Moreover, it is hilarious, especially in the letters Gilda writes to her late father on his old Underwood typewriter, the entries in her reporter's notebook, and the pieces she writes for the school newspaper.

All of these elements are interspersed throughout the third-person narrative, adding an extra layer of charm and entertainment.

This is a terrific and fun read that I highly recommend.

Gilda Joyce, a self-proclaimed psychic investigator, has been presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She has been awarded a scholarship to a private school, "Our Lady's of Sorrow School for Girls."

How did she come to receive this fortunate chance? It was due to her mother's boyfriend. At first, Gilda really had no desire to go until she laid eyes on the place. After all, anything that resembled a haunted castle was bound to be haunted, wasn't it?

The mystery surrounding the death of Dolores, who fell through the ice into the lake and drowned, hung over the school. Now, Gilda is resolute in her determination to solve this mystery.

I adored her attitude towards the snobby girls at the school. She has a tendency to be overly dramatic and to stick her nose into places where it doesn't belong. However, her reasoning is that if it will help her uncover the truth behind the mystery, then it is justifiable. She simply cannot fathom that Dolores was foolish enough to simply step out onto the ice. Someone must be accountable for her actions that night, and Gilda is determined to discover who.
