Do you have a penchant for mysteries that involve ghost girls, psychics, and secret clubs? Well, this book has all of that and more! It is truly a remarkable piece of literature with an amazing writing style. The story is so intense that it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The author has masterfully blended different elements to create a book that is both easy and hard to read at the same time. It's accessible enough for a wide range of readers, yet challenging enough to keep you engaged. This book would be most enjoyed by people over the age of ten. I simply couldn't put it down when I was reading it because I was so captivated by the author's writing style. However, the only thing I didn't like was that I felt the mystery could have been solved a little quicker. Overall, I really liked this book and would definitely rate it highly. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery.
After my friend Danielle had been bothering me for weeks to stop reading "the cult book" or otherwise known as The Host, I finally gave in. I agreed and let her pick out a book for me. She said I would love it as it was a ghost mystery. At first, I was a bit cautious. I don't usually read mysteries, especially those about ghosts or other supernatural beings. But, as it turned out, Danielle was right. I ended up LOVING the book.
It wasn't your typical scary ghost story that keeps you up all night with nightmares. Instead, it was about a thirteen-year-old psychic who goes on scholarship to a school called "Our Lady of Sorrows" due to its mysterious past. She wants to investigate the drowning of Dolores Lambert three years ago. This book made me laugh out loud! Her letters to her deceased father, her dislike of her mother's new boyfriend Brad, her descriptions of her older brother Stephen, and her attempts to make jokes about Mr. Pante that he hasn't heard before were all hilarious.
However, there were a couple of things I didn't like. The mystery wasn't very challenging to solve. As soon as the characters involved in Dolores' death were introduced, I knew something was off about them. The author made it kind of obvious who was responsible. Also, I didn't really enjoy how much Gilda hated Brad. I actually liked Brad and thought he was one of the best characters in the book, second only to Keith, the janitor, who was my favorite because of all the strange things that happened when he was around!
I've been receiving a significant number of requests for "scary" materials. However, when it comes to the school, there is very little in the form of scary, ghost, creepy, or horror content suitable for elementary students. So, I was extremely glad to hear about Gilda Joyce. I believe that I would offer "The Ladies of the Lake" to these fear-loving students before the first book in the series. This is because it functions better as a ghost story. On the other hand, "Psychic Investigator (Gilda Joyce, #1)" is more straightforwardly funny, with the scary element downplayed. It seems that "The Ladies of the Lake" would be a better fit for those students who are specifically seeking a spooky experience. It might capture their imaginations and provide them with the kind of thrilling encounter they are渴望. While "Psychic Investigator" has its own charm with its humor, it may not满足 the same need for a truly scary story.
An A+ book that delves into the captivating world of ghost stories, the disturbing theme of hazing among young girls, and the importance of being true to your own quirky self. This remarkable book has become my absolute favorite kids mystery series. I discovered it quite by accident while browsing through a book store during a sale several years ago. The moment I picked it up, I was instantly hooked. The engaging plot, well-developed characters, and spine-tingling mysteries kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. In fact, I was so enamored with the main character that I even named my dog after her. This book has not only provided me with countless hours of entertainment but has also taught me valuable lessons about friendship, courage, and self-acceptance. It is truly a gem that I would highly recommend to anyone, young or old, who loves a good mystery.
