Gilda Joyce and the Ladies of the Lake (Audiobook)

by Jennifer Allison (Goodreads Author), read by Jennifer Almasy

I believe this is the very first installment in the Gilda Joyce series. It presents a somewhat darker and more spine-chilling atmosphere compared to the other books I have listened to up until now. Nevertheless, it remains a captivating story. The plot unfolds in a way that keeps the listener on the edge of their seat, filled with mystery and unexpected twists.

Almasy, as the reader, does an outstanding job. Her narration brings the characters and the story to life. She manages to convey the emotions and personalities of each character with great precision, making it easy for the listener to become fully immersed in the tale. Her tone and pacing add to the overall atmosphere of the book, enhancing the sense of mystery and suspense.

Overall, Gilda Joyce and the Ladies of the Lake is a great audiobook that is sure to appeal to fans of mystery and thriller genres.

Do you have a penchant for mysteries that involve ghost girls, psychics, and secret clubs? Well, this book has all of that and more! It is truly a remarkable piece of literature with an amazing writing style. The story is so intense that it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The author has masterfully blended different elements to create a book that is both easy and hard to read at the same time. It's accessible enough for a wide range of readers, yet challenging enough to keep you engaged. This book would be most enjoyed by people over the age of ten. I simply couldn't put it down when I was reading it because I was so captivated by the author's writing style. However, the only thing I didn't like was that I felt the mystery could have been solved a little quicker. Overall, I really liked this book and would definitely rate it highly. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery.

After my friend Danielle had been bothering me for weeks to stop reading "the cult book" or otherwise known as The Host, I finally gave in. I agreed and let her pick out a book for me. She said I would love it as it was a ghost mystery. At first, I was a bit cautious. I don't usually read mysteries, especially those about ghosts or other supernatural beings. But, as it turned out, Danielle was right. I ended up LOVING the book.

It wasn't your typical scary ghost story that keeps you up all night with nightmares. Instead, it was about a thirteen-year-old psychic who goes on scholarship to a school called "Our Lady of Sorrows" due to its mysterious past. She wants to investigate the drowning of Dolores Lambert three years ago. This book made me laugh out loud! Her letters to her deceased father, her dislike of her mother's new boyfriend Brad, her descriptions of her older brother Stephen, and her attempts to make jokes about Mr. Pante that he hasn't heard before were all hilarious.

However, there were a couple of things I didn't like. The mystery wasn't very challenging to solve. As soon as the characters involved in Dolores' death were introduced, I knew something was off about them. The author made it kind of obvious who was responsible. Also, I didn't really enjoy how much Gilda hated Brad. I actually liked Brad and thought he was one of the best characters in the book, second only to Keith, the janitor, who was my favorite because of all the strange things that happened when he was around!

I've been receiving a significant number of requests for "scary" materials. However, when it comes to the school, there is very little in the form of scary, ghost, creepy, or horror content suitable for elementary students. So, I was extremely glad to hear about Gilda Joyce. I believe that I would offer "The Ladies of the Lake" to these fear-loving students before the first book in the series. This is because it functions better as a ghost story. On the other hand, "Psychic Investigator (Gilda Joyce, #1)" is more straightforwardly funny, with the scary element downplayed. It seems that "The Ladies of the Lake" would be a better fit for those students who are specifically seeking a spooky experience. It might capture their imaginations and provide them with the kind of thrilling encounter they are渴望. While "Psychic Investigator" has its own charm with its humor, it may not满足 the same need for a truly scary story.

I truly adored this sequel!

Undoubtedly, this series is filled with its eerie moments that send shivers down your spine.

I was captivated by the setting, which was both atmospheric and immersive, and the way the mystery gradually unfolded was simply brilliant.

The nod to Hamlet was an unexpected and really cool touch that added an extra layer of depth to the story.

I still have a great fondness for Gilda, but I have to admit that her "embellishments" and her reluctance to admit when she's wrong did irk me a little.

However, I do keep in mind that she is only 13 years old, and I'm only mentioning this because it was something that stood out to me.

Overall, I'm extremely excited for the rest of the books in this series and can't wait to see what adventures and mysteries lie ahead!

An A+ book that delves into the captivating world of ghost stories, the disturbing theme of hazing among young girls, and the importance of being true to your own quirky self. This remarkable book has become my absolute favorite kids mystery series. I discovered it quite by accident while browsing through a book store during a sale several years ago. The moment I picked it up, I was instantly hooked. The engaging plot, well-developed characters, and spine-tingling mysteries kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. In fact, I was so enamored with the main character that I even named my dog after her. This book has not only provided me with countless hours of entertainment but has also taught me valuable lessons about friendship, courage, and self-acceptance. It is truly a gem that I would highly recommend to anyone, young or old, who loves a good mystery.

This book holds such a deep sense of nostalgia for me!

It takes me back to a time that is both precious and bittersweet. The story within its pages seems to unfold like a beautiful tapestry, weaving together emotions and memories that I thought I had long forgotten.

RIP Dolores. You truly didn't deserve what happened. Your presence in this book was like a shining light, bringing warmth and authenticity to the narrative. As I listen to the audiobook, I can almost hear your voice, filled with passion and life.

The narrator does an excellent job of bringing the story to life, making it even more engaging and immersive. I find myself completely lost in the world of the book, forgetting about everything else around me.

Each chapter is like a new adventure, filled with twists and turns that keep me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what happens next, and yet, I also don't want it to end. This book has become a part of me, and I know that it will stay with me for a long time to come.

I actually really enjoyed "Gilda Joyce: The Ladies of the Lake".

It was an eerie, suspenseful, mysterious, and fast-paced read that had me on the edge of my seat. At some parts, it sent chills up my spine, while at others, it made me laugh out loud. It always kept me fascinated.

The narrator, Gilda Joyce, is a funny, quirky, and intriguing character. She's the type of person you would love to be friends with.

Gilda, a self-proclaimed psychic, is not happy when she is accepted on scholarship to "Our Lady of Sorrows", a Catholic all-girls school in an ancient, musty, rotting castle. Why should she give up her stilettos and leopard prints for a uniform?

But after a tour of the campus and hearing about the sudden death of a freshman four years ago, Gilda agrees to come to Our Lady, just long enough to solve the mystery surrounding the death of Dolores Lambert.

When she arrives at the school, Gilda soon realizes that she doesn't fit in. But she is determined to uncover the truth.

She also discovers that the school seems to be haunted, with leaky pipes, dead fish, and other water-related phenomena. It is widely believed that Dolores Lambert is haunting the school because of her untimely death after falling through the ice of the school's pond.

On Halloween night, Gilda and her best friend, Wendy, overhear three of the school's most popular seniors performing a strange ritual on the deserted ruins of the grounds. They seem to be afraid of Dolores' ghost and will do anything to keep her happy.

What will Gilda discover about the mystery of Dolores Lambert's death? Will she be able to solve the case and fit in at the same time? Read "Gilda Joyce: The Ladies of the Lake" to find out.

This book wasn't as good as the first book, but it was still pretty good.

Gilda joins a private school on scholarship just because she feels there is something odd about Dolores, who drowned in a lake three years ago.

I didn't find the book interesting until the end of the middle. The beginning and most of the middle were slow and boring.

However, my friend told me to keep reading it, and it eventually got better.

I wouldn't say I loved it. It's so annoying to read 200 pages just to get to the good part!

Maybe the author could have made the beginning and middle more engaging to keep the readers hooked from the start.

Despite that, the story did have some interesting twists and turns towards the end that made it worth reading.

Overall, it was an okay book, but not one that I would highly recommend.

After reading the great book that is the prequel,

I was sorely disappointed by this horrible excuse for literature.

I had such high expectations. I was truly expecting Gilda to be the star of another fabulous book chock full of excitement. I thought it would be a thrilling continuation of her adventures.

However, what I found was a boring girl who starred in a boring book! It was a complete letdown.

To make matters worse, it didn't even mention her experiences in the prequel or the cousin she made a "bond" with. How could they just ignore those important aspects?

If you have read the first book, I would highly recommend giving up on the series. It's just not worth it. Save your time and find a better book to read.

Don't waste your energy on something that fails to deliver.

There are so many other great books out there waiting to be discovered.

This book truly haunted my nightmares as a kid. It was so terrifying that it reached a point where we simply had to get rid of it from my house.

Every time I closed my eyes, the images and stories from that book would come flooding back, causing me to toss and turn in fear.

I still remember the chills that would run down my spine whenever I thought about it.

It was by far the creepiest middle grade book I've ever read.

The characters, the settings, and the plot were all so vivid and disturbing that they left a lasting impression on me.

Even now, as an adult, I can't help but shudder when I recall that book.

It's a testament to the power of good (or in this case, really scary) storytelling.
