The book presents an interesting dialogue between owner and pet, and vice-versa, through a series of letters that answer the "If you and your animals could communicate via paper, what would you say to each other?" Amy Tan writes a very personal foreword detailing her relationship with her animals as well as an ode to our pets. Luminaries such as Robin Williams, Isabel Allende, Peter Coyote, Ronnie Lott, Mickey Hart, Michael Chabon, Ayelet Waldman, Orlando Cepeda, Michael Tilson Thomas and Stephan Jenkins open the doors to their home life because of their love of animals and desire to help others who care about the animals. The humans may vary, the non-humans may vary, the handwritten notes may vary but the message is clear - we love our animals, they are members of our family. And, outside of the family unit, we have found that these animals are uniters of people not dividers. Anyone who has ever had a family pet will find kindred spirits in the letters and photos. 100% of the gross proceeds from TAILS will go to The San Francisco SPCA, the Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control, PAWS (Pets are Wonderful Support), Pets Unlimited and Rocket Dog Rescue. Each of these non-profit organizations is profiled in the book with their mission and work.

This particular piece was reasonably amusing, I must admit.

However, I have definitely witnessed similar things being executed in a far more outstanding manner.

Nonetheless, it's important to note that it was all for a good cause.

Perhaps the intention behind it was noble, but in terms of the overall entertainment value, it fell a bit short compared to what I've seen before.

Despite this, one can't help but appreciate the effort that was put in to create something that was at least somewhat entertaining while also serving a worthy purpose.

It makes me wonder if with a bit more refinement and innovation, it could have been truly remarkable.

Overall, it was an okay attempt, but there is definitely room for improvement.

In 2006, I had the pleasure of meeting an author in Seattle.

It was truly an amazing encounter. The author had a wealth of great stories to share, which kept me captivated throughout our conversation.

Their tales were filled with vivid descriptions and engaging characters that brought the words to life.

However, as I listened, I couldn't help but think that their stories could be even more enhanced if they incorporated more elements of nature, specifically birds.

Birds have a unique charm and can add a new dimension to any narrative.

They can symbolize freedom, hope, or even mystery.

By including more birds in their stories, the author could create a more immersive and enchanting world for their readers.

I look forward to seeing how the author's work evolves and whether they take my suggestion to heart.

Perhaps in the future, I will have the opportunity to read their new stories filled with the beauty and wonder of birds.
