Read this book four years ago and decided to re-read it now because one of my goals for 2016 is to be financially stable.
I really loved how simplistic, inspiring and practical this book was. There are so many take aways but the most important being:
10% of your salary is yours to save/invest
70% of your salary is for domestic purposes
20% of your salary is to repay your debts
The book also spoke about self control in this consumer driven society- this is a topic that needed to be explored more because a lot of people fall victim to it.
Overall a great financial, life changing book.

A delightful and very practical read. How to prosper in the world. The simple advice remains as true for 2021 here in the west as it did for Babylon many years prior to Christ. It is given in a series of tales set in and around ancient Babylon. A joy to read.

Several useful ideas regarding personal finance were completely overshadowed by horrendously faux-ancient prose, massive repetition of the same basic concepts, and poor writing.

And, as a minor sidepoint, there is an inherent subtext to this book that blames the poor for their poverty and expresses the concept that a person can simply "work harder" and succeed massively. The concept that everyone can of course set aside 1/10th of their take-home income is also an interesting one when you consider both the gender pay gap and the racial pay gap -- women and minorities are being literally robbed of their abilities to grow their wealth.

The concepts of saving money steadily, beginning savings early, and investing money in safe venues while avoiding gambling and get-rich-quick schemes are useful. But the "Babylonian parable" style of the book was horrifically bad, the level of page padding was shocking, and frankly there are much better and more relevant books out there that manage to convey financial common sense without a side-helping of hatred for the poor. I suggest reading Elizabeth Warren's excellent book "The Two-Income Trap" instead.

Meh , that is the best way to describe this book. This may be due to the fact that everything that was disucssed is fairly common knowledge and most people practice these concepts or know to practice these concepts. They may not have been common at the time, but doent explain how this book has such a high rating. The concepts being wrapped in a 'theme' of sorts just made it harder to follow along at times since the style or writing is quite old. The age of this book shows it self even more by the fact that it doesnt address any of the issues that people face in our current age (an example of this is rampant consumerism and excesive use of interest based finance).

:)

Can you imagine a finance self-help book that is not a nightmare? It exists, that's the one.
