I was truly unable to get past the very premise of the series. The idea that three cats have managed to learn the human language and can actually speak it is quite a stretch. So, they engage in literal conversations with a few select individuals and, of course, solve crimes. However, beyond this initial concept, I found myself not enjoying the story as it was set up or the way the cats interacted with each other. I attempted to skip ahead in the hope that it might improve, but in the end, I gave up and returned the book to the library. Maybe if I were to start with the first book in the series, I'd be able to get more into it. Until then, I'll happily stick to Lillian Jackson Braun's Cat Who series, which features a pair of mysterious Siamese cats that might or might not be assisting the main character in solving mysteries. He's never quite certain. And also Rita Mae Brown's Mrs. Murphy series, where a cat and a corgi can communicate with each other. Although humans only hear the traditional animal noises, they play a crucial role in helping the main character solve mysteries. These other series seem to have a more engaging and believable approach that keeps me hooked.
