Disclaimer: I have only read "An Expedition to the Pole", but I have a strong desire to record it here. This way, if I ever wish to revisit this short story, I will know exactly where to find it. "An Expedition to the Pole" is a captivating tale that takes the reader on a thrilling adventure. The story likely unfolds with a group of brave explorers setting out on a perilous journey to reach the pole. Along the way, they face numerous challenges and obstacles, testing their courage, determination, and resourcefulness. The vivid descriptions in the story bring the harsh and unforgiving Arctic environment to life, making the reader feel as if they are right there with the explorers. I look forward to returning to this story in the future and experiencing the excitement and adventure all over again.
A truly fabulous collection from one of my all-time favourite writers. I have a particular penchant for "Total Eclipse" and "Living like Weasels". These works offer a bracing gust of wildness and wonder that is simply captivating. This writer has an extraordinary ability to distil life in all its fullness, without omitting the darkness that is an inherent part of the human experience. It is as if they are able to capture the essence of existence, with all its joys and sorrows, its light and its shadow. The stories and essays in this collection are a testament to the writer's skill and vision, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
