I love Bernie Mac, so of course I loved LISTENING to this book on audible. Love his voice, and am happy that at least we have a little bit of that voice left here on the earth. Rest in love in heaven with your grandma and mom and brother.
I purchased this book awhile back and only recently watched his television show via Netflix streaming. Enjoyed the show and the book as well. A funny but wise man, he exemplifies what one can achieve and aspire to be no matter what circumstances they may face. We lost a great human being when we lost Betnie Mac!
Bernie Mac is as funny and endearing in his book as he is in his TV show. It's a quick read and at first I was put off by the street grammar but then I could hear his voice saying the things I was reading as I read. I enjoyed it very much.
A fantastic read, carries the authors voice the entire time so well that you think Bernie Mac is talking to you. His stories are sometimes incredibly sad, incredibly funny, insightful. Truly one of my favorites for this year. Highly recommend.
From the first sentence to the last, I couldn't stop laughing. Even when Bernie is trying to be serious, he's funny! The man was just oozing with comedy in his blood. This is the reason I love reading about famous people because you learn so much about who they are and why they came to be!
Bernard Jeffrey McCullough had an incredible amazing life. He's had a great deal of tragedy, which from what I've learned about most comedians' life stories I've read, pain is what makes them so raw and funny and Bernie Mac definitely had plenty of it. I'm so glad I got to see him perform live at least once, and he was simply amazing. The Kings of Comedy is something I watch all the time when I need a pick-me-up!
The one sad note for me in reading this book, Bernie was so alive and looking forward to the rest of his comedic career. He had no idea that a few years after this publication, he'd die. I kept wishing he was still here because I respected his craft so much. He was so damn funny! Critics often stated they couldn't understand what Bernie was saying, but I caught every damn word! He was quick-witted and you had to stay with him to follow the stories he'd tell. I didn't miss a beat! I know his wife and daughter miss him tremendously, but what an incredible legacy he left behind. I miss the Mac Man! He was taken too soon, but I suppose he's making the angels laugh in Heaven.
I really enjoyed this book. Bernie Mac had a hard start to life, but he had a good mother who taught him important lessons for life. Bernie worked very hard to get where he is today. All I knew about Bernie Mac before reading this book was from his TV show, which I like. After reading this book I have a lot of respect for this man. I think everyone should read books like this, its inspiring and illustrates that success at anything doesn't just happen, you have to work for it.
I don’t think I’ve ever connected with a biography or a book on a personal, emotional, and mental level such as this one. Bernie Mac is one of my favorite comedians of all time and his story was indeed full of passion and took the reader through all of the motions. Just like Bernie Mac, this book is not sugarcoated; he goes in depth about his life and what he learned from each struggle that he encountered along the way. I guess you could say that life isn’t quite sugarcoat it either. I think what I admired most also about his story is that it’s not like everyone else’s. Bernie Mac didn’t start off at a young age or didn’t have anything handed to him to start off his career and I feel that could be relatable to many who aspire to be something great in this world. Bernie Mac made his mark on this world when I was a very young age and I’m very sad that I couldn’t be able to meet him before he passed away on this earth. But instead of reading a self-help book I highly recommend this one to get you through a rough day.
Bernie Mac's book was amazing, made me miss him. I loved learning about his journey and his sense of humor is incredible. He worked so hard for his family and I have such an admiration for him. I really appreciated all his different interactions with people and the authentic nature of who he was in his life.
