My ex recommended this book.

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical at first. After all, our relationship didn't end on the best of terms. But I decided to give it a try anyway.

Surprisingly, I found that the book was actually quite interesting. It had a unique storyline and well-developed characters. I couldn't put it down once I started reading.

As I delved deeper into the book, I realized that my ex had actually done me a favor. Maybe he wasn't all bad after all.

This experience made me think about how we often judge people based on our past experiences with them. But sometimes, we need to look beyond those experiences and give people a chance.

Who knows, we might just be pleasantly surprised.

So, even though my relationship with my ex didn't work out, I'm still grateful to him for recommending this book. It has opened my eyes to a new world of literature and taught me an important lesson about forgiveness and second chances.

**2015 Reading Challenge #06: A Book Written by Someone Under 30**

Jim Morrison passed away at the young age of 27 in 1971. The poems presented here are a compilation of texts and notes written throughout his life.

Perhaps one has to be under the influence of acid to appreciate this.
"Everyone unites now in a lament
for the death of my phallus,
a tongue of knowledge
in the feathered night,
the boys go crazy in their heads
and suffer,
I sacrifice my phallus
on the altar
of silence."
This is a clear demonstration of what a name can do. What would have been dismissed as bad in the hands of anyone else is praised as genius in Jim Morrison. C'est la vie.

It's interesting to note how Morrison's work has been received and interpreted over the years. His writing was often controversial and pushed the boundaries of what was considered acceptable. Some people saw him as a visionary, while others thought his work was too extreme.

Regardless of one's opinion, there's no denying that Morrison had a unique voice and a powerful impact on the world of literature and music. His poems continue to be studied and analyzed by scholars and fans alike, and his legacy lives on.

Todo está roto y baila.

This short and mysterious phrase seems to convey a sense of chaos and yet, there is a certain charm or irony in it.

Maybe it means that even though everything is broken, there is still a way to find joy and movement.

It could be a metaphor for life, where despite the challenges and difficulties we face, we can still choose to dance and make the best of the situation.

Or perhaps it refers to a specific moment or place where things are in a state of disarray, but there is a strange beauty in the midst of it all.

Whatever the meaning, "Todo está roto y baila" leaves us with a sense of wonder and curiosity, making us think about the deeper implications of this simple yet powerful statement.

It encourages us to look beyond the brokenness and see the potential for something beautiful and unexpected.

After all, sometimes it is in the most unlikely of places that we find the greatest inspiration and motivation to keep going.

So, the next time you encounter something that seems broken, remember this phrase and consider the possibility of dancing in the face of it.

This book is a truly vibrant collection of Jim Morrison's remarkable work.

Morrison showcases his talent as a genuine poet on numerous occasions throughout the book. While not every single piece is completely astonishing, there are indeed a significant number of poems and writings that truly stand out and leave a lasting impression.

The poem "Awake" holds a special place in my heart as it was my absolute favorite in the entire collection. The very first line of this poem, "Awake, shake dreams from your hair, my child, my sweet one," has a profound impact on me. It is precisely this kind of captivating writing that initially hooked me and made me a dedicated fan of Morrison's poetry. In fact, I have reread his poems countless times, each time discovering something new and beautiful.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in poetry. Whether you end up liking it or not, it is undeniably an interesting and engaging read that offers a unique perspective into the mind and creativity of Jim Morrison.

Read this for my "Psych of Dreams" class in college.

It's truly an extraordinary piece that delves into the mysterious realm of dreams.

The content is not only weird and trippy but also extremely engaging.

As I read through it, I find myself being drawn into a world of vivid imagery and strange concepts.

It makes me question the nature of our subconscious minds and the hidden meanings that lie within our dreams.

The author's unique perspective and writing style add to the overall allure of the piece.

It's like a journey through the unknown, filled with surprises and revelations at every turn.

I can't wait to discuss it further in class and hear what my classmates think.

This reading has definitely opened my eyes to the fascinating world of dreams and has made me eager to learn more.

Overall, it's a great addition to our course material and I'm looking forward to exploring more of these types of readings in the future.

It's Pretty Okay

Life has its ups and downs, but sometimes, it's just pretty okay. We don't always have to strive for perfection or expect extraordinary things to happen. There are moments when the simplicity and ordinariness of life bring a sense of contentment.

Maybe it's a quiet evening at home, reading a good book or watching a favorite movie. Or perhaps it's a walk in the park, enjoying the fresh air and the beauty of nature. These little moments may not seem significant at first, but they can have a profound impact on our well-being.

When we learn to appreciate the okay-ness of life, we become more resilient and better able to handle the challenges that come our way. We don't get overly stressed or disappointed when things don't go exactly as planned because we know that there are still many good things in life.

So, the next time you find yourself thinking that life could be better, take a step back and look at the big picture. You might just realize that it's already pretty okay.

I found this volume weaker than Wilderness.

The poems in it often seem incomplete, having been published elsewhere before, or in some cases, they are just lyrics that are well known to any fan of The Doors.

However, there is still some good stuff. In particular, "Paris Journal" stands out, in which despair is evident.

It is, of course, all the more touching when one considers what lay ahead for Morrison.

His life was filled with turmoil and tragedy, and this poem seems to capture a moment of his inner turmoil.

Despite the flaws in this volume, it still offers a glimpse into the mind and art of one of the most iconic figures in rock history.

Overall, while it may not be Morrison's best work, it is still an important addition to his body of literature.

As a fellow poet, I found myself extremely intrigued by the raw notebook poems from Morrison.

It is truly a remarkable experience to come across these works. At the same time, there is a strange feeling that almost borders on taboo when reading some of his very last words ever written, which are preserved in his personal notebooks.

His poetry offers a wealth of insights. One can sense a great deal of childhood trauma that seems to pervade his words. There are also undertones of misogyny and racism that run throughout, as he grapples with himself and his own inner demons.

Despite these complex and sometimes uncomfortable themes, it is still an enlightening experience to engage with his poetry. It forces us to confront the darker aspects of the human psyche and consider the impact of one's past on their present and future.

Overall, Morrison's notebook poems are a valuable addition to the literary canon, offering a unique perspective on the human condition.

The most I knew about Jim Morrison was from Lana Del Rey's songs. I had never listened to "The Doors" or read his works.

One day, I found this book in the library and recalled the lyrics "I'm living like Jim Morrison" from Lana's song "Gods and Monsters". I was curious - what kind of life was she referring to? So, I checked the book out and began to read. Now, I can claim it as one of the most enchanting poetry books I've ever read.

The author transports us back to 1960 - 1970 America. The vivid imagery, especially in "The Hitchhiker", along with the criticism, the good, the bad, the glory, the gore, and the way of living, all come alive. You can feel it deep in your bones - that feeling expressed through bold, bright imagery and metaphors, the lack of sense, and the madness. Everything seems to fall apart and then come back together. The descriptions dance around you, take shape in your mind, and completely draw you into a beauty that is not always appealing.

"Love cannot save you
from your own fate

Art cannot soothe
Words cannot tame
The Night."
Heaven or Hell, Jim Morrison

I must start by saying that this book was more of an experience than a mere read. The poems are surreal, initially hard to understand, and have an almost unearthly quality. I loved some of the poems, but "Celebration of a Lizard", "The Soft Parade", "Welcome to the American Night", "In that year...", "Curses and Invocations", "Stand there listening", "Always a playground instructor", "The sidewalkers moved...", "Be awoke, talking...", "Heaven or Hell", "Scour the Mind...", and "Lessons on becoming" made me think a great deal about the energy they emit and had a profound impact on me.

"-I'm surprised you could get it up.
He whips her lightly, sardonically
w/belt.
-Haven't I been thru enough? she asks.

The dark girl begins to bleed.
It's Catholic heaven. I have an
ancient Indian crucifix around
my neck. My chest is hard
& brown. Lying on stained &
wretched sheets w/a bleeding Virgin.
We could plan a murder, or
Start a religion."
Always a playground instructor, Jim Morrison

The ambiance is grim, the action is damned, and the characters are fated to live the lives they do. The poems are fatalistic, almost nightmarish. The author employs powerful imagery to convey an uneasy, gut-wrenching feeling. The book leaves a heavy aftertaste that doesn't easily fade. It makes you think, makes you mutter "what the hell...", and leaves you in a state of confusion. It scares you and attracts you at the same time. It triggers your fight or flight response.

"Be awoke, talking. Telling dreams.
an explosion during the night.

A new siren. Not cop. Fire,
New York ambulance or european
movie riot news but the strange
siren predicting war. She ran
to the window. The yellow thing
had risen."
Be awoke, talking..., Jim Morrison

The rhythm is captivating. The lines may not make sense when taken out of context, but when combined, they form such a beautiful image. The rhymes flow like a song, not overly obvious but present. These rhymes make the most gruesome descriptions beautiful and the most beautiful things disturbing. They add a strong flavor to the poem and leave you longing for more.

This is a must-read book, and I highly recommend it. It's best read at night.

I have a special affection for this volume. When I was younger, it was one of my favorites.

Today, I happened to have a day off, and that's when I decided to give it another read. As I delved into its pages once again, I couldn't help but notice that it didn't have the same level of appeal to me as it did in my youth.

However, despite this, it still managed to bring back a flood of memories. Each page seemed to be a gateway to a different time in my life, filled with the joys and sorrows of my younger days.

It was a strange and bittersweet experience, realizing that while my tastes may have changed, this volume still held a special place in my heart.

Even though it may not be the same as it once was, it will always be a reminder of the person I used to be and the memories that I cherish.
