Many an advertiser got inspired by his puns and several twists on words!

Rosa's writing has a unique charm that takes us to Mauro Beting's way of color commenting on TV or Engenheiros do Hawaii's song lyrics.

It was less about geography than Sagarana and more focused on the psychoanalysis of the characters in the stories.

Among all, A Terceira Margem do Rio (River's Third Bank) was my absolute favorite.

This story seemed to delve deep into the human psyche, exploring the complex emotions and relationships of the characters.

The way Rosa described the river and the third bank added an air of mystery and intrigue to the narrative.

It made me wonder about the hidden meanings and interpretations that could be drawn from the story.

Overall, Rosa's writing is a delight to read, filled with creativity and depth that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.

The original article:
This is a short article. It needs to be rewritten and expanded.

The rewritten and expanded article:

This is a rather concise article.

It indeed requires some rewriting and expansion to make it more comprehensive and detailed.

Perhaps we can add more specific examples or explanations to support the main points.

By doing so, the article will become more engaging and informative for the readers.

Moreover, we can also improve the grammar and vocabulary to enhance the overall quality of the text.

With these efforts, the rewritten and expanded article will be able to better convey its intended message and meet the expectations of the readers.

What a brilliant story!

It is truly captivating and engaging from start to finish.

The plot is so well-crafted that it keeps you on the edge of your seat, eager to know what will happen next.

The characters are vividly portrayed, each with their own unique personalities and motives.

You can't help but become emotionally invested in their lives and root for them to succeed.

I don't think I'll ever be able to take it off my mind!

It has left such a lasting impression on me that I find myself constantly thinking about it, even long after I've finished reading.

It's one of those rare stories that you want to share with everyone you know, because you know they'll love it just as much as you do.

Overall, it's an outstanding piece of work that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great read.

When one of my teachers, during high school, introduced me to the work and read aloud the short story “The Third Margin of the River”, I cried. It changed my life. I love this book with all my heart.

The narrator's sensitivity becomes palpable. I feel sorry for those who have not read it in Portuguese.

This story has a profound impact on me. The way the teacher read it aloud made me truly understand the beauty and power of the words.

It was as if I was transported into the world of the story, experiencing all the emotions along with the characters.

Since then, I have developed a deep love for literature, especially for works that can touch the heart and soul.

I often recommend this book to my friends and classmates, hoping that they can also experience the same kind of震撼 and inspiration.

Even now, whenever I think of that moment when I first heard the story, my heart still fills with warmth and gratitude.

I will always cherish this book and the memories it has brought me.

Li porque quero ler Grande Sertão e, sabendo da fama de Guimarães, quis começar por esse para me acostumar à linguagem.

However, I didn't get used to it.

It is an inverted reasoning, with a lot of beauty. Sometimes I got lost in the neologisms or in the beauty of the metaphors. Sometimes I just didn't understand anything at all.

The story "Partida do audaz navegante" was the most difficult for me. I only remember the name.

On the other hand, "Substância" is of very great beauty... And "A terceira margem do rio" is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read.

I found myself constantly challenged by the unique language and style of Guimarães' works. The neologisms seemed to open up new worlds of meaning, while the metaphors painted vivid pictures in my mind. Despite the difficulties, I was also deeply charmed by the beauty and depth of his writing. I look forward to continuing to explore his works and perhaps one day, fully understanding the essence of his literary genius.

Difficult Reading Book

There were three stories that I really liked:

- "Sorôco, sua mãe, sua filha" - which moved me, the idea that there is an understanding, an unspoken, subtle, unexpected understanding of a village about a man's pain.

- "A terceira margem do rio" - about family loyalty and the possibility (or not) of choosing different paths.

- "os cismos" - about the impossible pain of a child in the face of the prospect of losing his mother, and about the power of the magic of small details that in the midst of deep anguish bring a ray of hope.

There were other stories that I didn't even notice.

The writing is difficult, with a demanding cadence, a complex sentence structure accompanied by many "new words" invented by Guimarães Rosa to name what was in his mind. The known words are not enough for everything - in this we agree.

The prose presented here is often rather overly ornate and flowery, perhaps it fares better in the original Portuguese, as I have read the Swedish translation. However, within this text, there are indeed some precious gems to be found.

Nonetheless, in my personal opinion, a significant number of the stories lack excitement and fail to capture the reader's interest. They seem rather dull and uneventful, lacking the necessary elements to truly engage and hold one's attention.

It is a bit of a mixed bag, with the beautiful prose at times overshadowed by the mediocrity of some of the stories. But still, those few shining gems give hope that there is more to discover and appreciate within this work.

Overall, it is a text that has its strengths and weaknesses, and one that requires a discerning eye to fully evaluate and understand.

Fantástico.

This word truly encapsulates a sense of wonder and excitement. It implies something that is not only amazing but also has an element of the extraordinary.

When we encounter something fantástico, it often takes our breath away and leaves us in awe. It could be a beautiful work of art, a breathtaking natural景观, or an unforgettable experience.

The word fantástico has a certain charm and allure that makes it stand out. It evokes a feeling of magic and mystery, as if we have stepped into a world beyond our imagination.

Whether we use it to describe a place, a person, or an event, fantástico always manages to convey a sense of enthusiasm and passion. It is a word that can bring a smile to our faces and make us feel alive.

In conclusion, fantástico is a wonderful word that allows us to express our admiration and appreciation for the truly remarkable things in life.

João Guimarães Rosa, a Brazilian author, presents thought-provoking, character-driven stories that are translated from the original Portuguese text.

Some of these stories truly appealed to me, while others left me completely unmoved. Rosa has a unique style that at times invokes the spirit of Poe, with its dark and mysterious undertones. At other times, he seems to draw inspiration from the Beats, with a more free-flowing and experimental approach. And yet, there are also moments when he creates his own kind of parable-type thing, which gives the collection a somewhat scattershot quality.

Despite this, the prose throughout is simply beautiful. It is rich, descriptive, and full of life. Each sentence is crafted with care, and the language seems to dance off the page. I found myself getting lost in the words, and even when the story didn't quite resonate with me, I was still able to appreciate the beauty of the writing.

I hope to one day read one of Rosa's full-length works and see if he can maintain this level of excellence over a longer period. I have a feeling that it will be an unforgettable experience.

4 Untranslatable Stars

Variances in cultural paradigms frequently prevent a meaningful translation, which adds to the mysterious quality of this story. I took pleasure in the narrative even though I had trouble uncovering the "meaning" within the story.

I read the story on two occasions. During the first reading, I had the impression that the father's "leaving" in the boat indicated his death. However, upon the second reading, my perception was not of the father's death but rather of his actual physical departure. His act of "leaving" seemed to be passive-aggressive towards his family and the society that he "left".

The ambiguity resulting from untranslatable concepts appears to render the true essence of this narrative incomprehensible to an English reader. Nevertheless, I do recommend this story, particularly if you are proficient in Portuguese and familiar with the societal norms, culture, and mores. It offers a unique perspective that can only be fully appreciated with a deeper understanding of the cultural context.
