This was the first and my favorite self-help book I ever have read. Hill teaches strong principles of thought control and discaplin of habbits.
I recommend every one reads this book. You can also find some awesome videos on youtube.com
Enjoy and Be Blessed

What can I say about this book that hasn't been said by millions of people who read it in the decades since it was published? It was praised by so many, generation after generation. All I can add is what this book meant for me.
Every once in awhile comes a book that feels like it changes ones DNA. That while you are reading it you physically change. That your ideas about what life is, and what you want from it change. This is what this book did to me.
It made me question basic assumptions I made about myself that I didn't even know where assumptions! I thought they were - "My character" or "What's given". I took my time reading this one. I let things sink before I moved on and I know that I will re-read this book in the future.
The main areas that this book changed for me are - new definition of what is "possible" for one person to achieve and a new level of ambition to go and achieve it, it also gives the tools of how one can start doing the "impossible".
This book that has been written almost a century ago is still very relevant today. Napoleons writing is smooth and easy. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has dreams and wants to keep pushing himself and keep developing.

This got weird quickly. Some good points, but they're overshadowed by sexist and ableist points. The author is currently spending this chapter detailing an imaginary "cabinet" meeting he held with Lincoln and Napoleon, among others. No, thank you. Also, the author repeatedly stresses that it's rare for anyone to have self-insight, self-control over sexual impulses, or accomplish anything substantial before their 40s or 50s.

This book has many advantages over other self help books. 1. It does not teach that just thinking about something will make it happen. It teaches that you have to DO something to make it happen. 2. It teaches how to go about figuring out what you want and pursuing your dreams. 3. This book is relatively old yet still sells so it has passed some test of time.

The Good:
Teaches how to go about making life goals and plans. Shows how to believe in yourself and make things happen. Shows the importance of having specialized knowledge and leadership skills. Shows the importance of having creativity and a scientific mind. The book makes you think because Napolean Hill puts things in his terms through his own philosophy. As he says this book is a philosophy of success. So there is a lot to the book and a lot can be mined out of it multiple times.

The Bad: There are some difficult to understand sections, and you have to put up with some new agey bullcrap to get to the goods. The author also assumes that all poor people are poor because they choose to be. But he never really faces up to the fact that rich people often do abuse those who work for them, and keep many poor people down. He also does not face up to the fact that there are life circumstances that keep people down (he will emphasize you can get out of them).

The Ugly: Thinks the world would be a better place if Christians and Jews had cooperated with Islam. Teaches there are no miracles, and there is no supernatural. He is a new agey type pantheist. He teaches his philosophy of success through this lenses so you have to think for yourself, and as my teacher said eat chicken, but do not swallow the bones.

I have read hundreds of books over the past many years in my quest for success. "Think and Grow Rich" truly stands right near the top. It has made a positive impact on my life in many ways.

Frankly, as with many wonderful books, I have applied the principles in this book and have reaped incredible results.

Self-righteous and pedantic. Often prone to magical thinking, endless meandering, "revelation" of self-evident advice.

Ted, my old boss at KWE (Kintetsu World Express) first recommended this book to me and told me that it very much changed his way of thinking. He said it might do the same to my own thinking.

I was skeptical and after forgetting that age old phrase of "never judge a book by its cover" (and not reading it for two months even after I bought it...I bought it only to appease Ted because I knew he was going to ask me if I had bought it...which he did)I finally sat down to read it and couldn't put it down.

I thought it would be about making money and "growing rich" as the cover leads one to beleive...and which only half-heartedly interests me. I was wrong, however, and came to learn that the book was more about setting an "envisioned desired outcome" for ourselves each day or for each activity instead of passively going through life. What one may learn from this book is that life will only give you what you ask of it...whether it is joy, happiness, money, friendship, love, family, a dog ;) or anything in between.

To my great benefit, Ted actually worked with me in analyzing the book to help me pull out meaning from it. We could spend 1-2 hours at a time after work just talking about it and trying to figure out what the book was saying.

I am very thankful now that Ted had the patience he did with me then. In fact, ha, because of this book, Ted has become a mentor of sorts to me...even though I am an ocean away in Europe at the moment...I still keep in touch with him frequently.

Mijn top vijf markeringen

A quitter never wins, and a winner never quits.

2. Relieve yourself forever of the fear of death by reaching a decision to accept death as an inescapable event. Whip the fear of poverty by reaching a decision to get along with whatever wealth you can accumulate without worry. Put your foot upon the neck of the fear of criticism by reaching a decision not to worry about what other people think, do or say. Eliminate the fear of old age by reaching a decision to accept it, not as a handicap, but as a great blessing which carries with it wisdom, self-control and understanding not known to youth. Acquit yourself of the fear of ill health by the decision to forget symptoms. Master the fear of loss of love by reaching a decision to get along without love, if that is necessary. Kill the habit of worry, in all its forms, by reaching a general, blanket decision that nothing life has to offer is worth the price of worry. With this decision will come poise, peace of mind and calmness of thought that will bring happiness.

3. Go back into your yesterdays, at times, and bathe your mind in the beautiful memories of past love. It will soften the influence of the present worries and annoyances. It will give you a source of escape from the unpleasant realities of life, and maybe – who knows? – your mind will yield to you, during this temporary retreat into the world of fantasy, ideas or plans which may change the entire financial or spiritual status of your life. If you believe yourself unfortunate because you have ‘loved and lost’, perish the thought. One who has loved truly can never lose entirely. Love is whimsical and temperamental. Its nature is ephemeral and transitory. It comes when it pleases and goes away without warning. Accept and enjoy it while it remains, but spend no time worrying about its departure. Worry will never bring it back.

4. The emotions of sex and jealousy, when mixed, may turn a person into an insane beast.

5. The desire for sexual expression is by far the strongest and most impelling of all the human emotions. For this very reason this desire, when harnessed and transmuted into action other than that of physical expression, may raise one to the status of a genius.

So I do realize this book was written in the 1930s so that may be why I thought it was ridiculous. I found it contradicting. The author would say don't wait on luck or chance but put your faith in some higher power but not a deity. But that seems to be a type of luck or chance to me. Also, he mentioned all this research he has done but it is not cited anywhere. Maybe the most recent version would be better but I would not recommend this to ANYONE.

"God seems to throw Himself on the side of the man who knows exactly what he wants, if he is determined to get JUST THAT!"

It all starts in the FAITH Department!

Published in 1937, this book is the archetype of all contemporary self-improvement books. Here's why: it draws upon the principles of New Thought, its emphasis on positive thinking and the law of attraction. The basic premise is this: one's external concrete circumstances are nothing more than a reflection of one's inner world and dominating thoughts. You will not conquer the world until you conquer your own thoughts!

This is what I like most about this book: the focus inward, the resources emotive, the beneficiaries could be anyone! Strong FAITH and DESIRE are the only prerequisites for all success!

Recommended for people who accept nothing but success and hope to accumulate infinite amount of RICHES—these ranging from simple peace of mind to lots of money!
