If you want to read a very 1930's America version of The Secret, then read this book.

There were a few interesting ideas and approaches but others just turned me off completely. Adding the fact that the author himself is quite the controversial figure who seems to have lied about many things including "facts" mentioned in this book, I'm not sure how to feel about this.

I'm not not recommending this, maybe you'll get more out of it than I did but I'm sure that there are other, more modern and "readable" versions of the same philosophy to be found elsewhere.

...Huge shifts in variants of English language I have come by when reading past Robinson Cruesoe, to listening to J.K. Rowling speeches. A fresh new kind I arrived at when reading this book—a one of a kind style.

This book helped me shift from a poverty-stricken mindset to one that operated from abundance all the time. I had a massive poverty—striken mindset of ‘What-if-I-run-out-of-money’. This one died as I read this book and reflected over the myriads of real life of stories of people who drew monetary wealth towards themselves, even when the world stacked odds about that path. But this 25-year old research work of Napolean Hill really stretches more than that. It silently urges every reader to not merely seek money but also grow as an individual alongside which in turn will secure the money wealth that ultimately seek. You cannot have a very aggressive attitude and be wealthy in the highest sense—you can’t. This is well-outlined throughout the book.

Questions you will want to ask as you read along—how do you treat your colleagues, coworkers, employees, people at home?

Some of the things that are necessary to become wealthy as outlines by Napolean Hill (which many many times wealth-seekers discount as unimportant) are:

‘Unwillingness to render humble service’

‘Lack of a pleasing personality’

’Selfishness’

‘Disloyalty’

‘Lack of Imagination’

‘Emphasis of title’—the competent leader requires not title to give him the respect of his followers

(THE LAST POINT IS SOMETHING EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY OF INDIA….So many people ‘demanding’ respect for their title of a ‘medical doctor’——sorry….that doesn’t grant you anything!!!!)

The other points the in the book—equally valuable, but a little more obvious requirements as opposed to the ones I mentioned above which so many people discount as very very very important requirements for money to really arrive in your life

A little more about my story——where I come from, poverty is considered the norm, hard work as the answer to that!

Actually there’s way more—money is only a piece of paper—a by-product of a way of being, and a way of providing service that the world currently requires. It is possible for everyone, but you will need to grow as a human too.

Plus, I learnt something extremely interesting in this book——a powerful thing for a creator-mind person like me—it is called, ’Sex transmutation’. It means transmuting sexual energy for creativity. I had no clue all hardcore creators do that—some knowingly, some unknowingly.

So many things to learn from this book! Remember it is a 25-year research by the author! Many many stars!

There are the kind of books that need to re-read over and over again because the inertia of human minds are sure to catch up and instructions from a gem of a book like this can help position us back on track

I bought this book just as the year 2008 is starting. What's odd about this is that I don't even have any inkling of what kind of a book this is when I bought it in downtown Recto (I eventually found that it belong to the self-help genre). The book's title, "Think and Grow Rich" by napoleon Hill just flashed in my mind and, finding no prospective book to read at that time, I plunged on. As of this writing, I had finished the second round of reading it with future plans of doing it the third, fourth, and fifth time as my time permits. But life is too short and there's too much of books I still got to read. ^_^
Anyway, I'd outlined here a summary of the book's philisophy of how to accumulate Huge Amounts of money. I also found fascinating the subjects on the Principle of Autosuggestion and (get this!!) The Mystery of Sex Transmutation! Getting curious what these are all about..?? Why don't you grab the book and be awakened by the eternal truths on how to "attract" the surging wave of riches.

* Find something you love to do. You have to love what you are doing; you have to be anxious to go to work in the morning. Until you find something that you really love to do, you are probably not going to be successful because just making money doesn't make you successful.
* Develop a plan of action. Developing a plan takes more than just thinking. You have to take action, too. Hill says you may not have all the details figured out in the beginning, but forming a plan is a good start. You can always alter your plan later on, he adds.
* Involve other people. Hill states that in addition to finding something we are passionate about, we need to align ourselves with other people to accomplish our goals. No matter how smart we are, we need others because we can't know everything about a particular thing.
* Don't forget to give back. The more success you have, the more you are in a position to give back and make a difference in the lives of others is the philosophy that I have imbibed by reading this book. Most people who have been successful are very willing to help someone else achieve their own goals.

I wish to state here the insights I've gained in reading this book, but I think it will deprive you of the fascination of knowing these things first hand. I envy you the journey of truly knowing yourself. Remember it's not the destination that matters, but how you've come to enjoy the journey and made the most out of it!
My warm regards and happy reading! ^_^

This is the best self help book any entrepreneur could ever read. Perhaps the only one they need to. Truly transformative. I have it on audio too and listen to it at the gym often.

Napoleon Hill was tasked by Andrew Carnegie to write a book on what made a successful person succeed, and he spent 20 years researching and interviewing every great name of the day (Ford, Woolworth, Edison, etc), plus lots of people who failed (because you have to know what doesn't work too). This book is the result.

It basically hammers home a single point, over and over again. Success comes from knowing what you want to achieve and having a burning desire to achieve it.

"The starting point of all achievements is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desire brings weak results, just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat."

The riches begin with a state of mind, with definiteness of purpose and with little or no hard work. We should have faith within ourselves, our ideas and work. Faith is basically a state of mind which may be induced or created by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind through the principle of auto-suggestion.

Auto suggestion applies to all suggestions and are self-administered stimuli which reaches one’s mind through our senses.

The initial few chapters were really good and then the author decided to go all pro-capitalism and America out of no where which for me was a downside as it broke the tempo.

Knowledge is only potential power, however it becomes power only when and if it’s organised into definite plans of actions and directed towards a definite end.

Probably the first ever book which actually makes sense about plans and their fulfillments. It takes a lot of courage to not give up and keep going when things are tough but that’s the only key to success - always move one step ahead in your journey even if you can’t take it anymore.

1. Fundamental.

- kenapa pria biasanya sukses setelah usia 40?

It took me a lot of time to go through this. Although there were some useful parts, such as examining yourself about what is stopping you to go forward in life, my overall impression: it's ok, but I won't reread it.

Summary: What the mind can conceive, AND believe, it WILL achieve.

Every word in that summary is important. This book ultimately regards how you think and how your thoughts will get you to wherever you choose. Dating back to the post Depression era, Napoleon Hill does a great job in a theory-based piece on the psychology of thought and how it prevents or supports our dreams.

Every thing, action, circumstance, failure, or success is spawned by one -- thought. It is your thoughts and the way you develop and guide your thoughts that will bring you to wherever you want to be. I felt like this book's title is hardly doing it justice because the THINK part resonates with any aspect of your life. Think And Grow Rich, Think and Grow Happy, Think And Grow Religious, Think And Grow Successful, Think And Grow Into A Good Parent, whatever. Monitor and guide your thoughts and you'll get anywhere you want.

I give it four stars because 1 - the author often gets into such distant levels of English that it's hard to reciprocate well, 2 - some chapters are a bit out there, things like sex transmutation, ESP, and creating a mastermind group in your head with Abe Lincoln at the table, 3 - a small portion of the author's findings are a bit outdated, but this is hardly a negative because 90% of this book is timeless, and lastly 4 - only because in audiobook format it is very hard to follow. After completing it once, it ultimately is a reference manual. I'll certainly return to it in book form, not audiobook.

If you're willing to really be self critical and apply the teachings Hill suggests, you'll indeed be in better shape. But it won't be overnight. Overall a good read that I recommend.

Napoleon Hill presents each part of this book as a "definite plan" with "definite steps towards obtaining riches." Instead, what he presents is line after line of trite motivation intermixed with pure gold nuggets of jaw dropping wisdom.

Here's a wonderful little snippet:

"Baldheaded men, for example, are bald for no other reason than their fear of criticism. Heads become bald because of the tight fitting bands of hats which cut off the circulation from the roots of the hair."

Hill repeatedly and confidently spews this kind of nonsense. Another similar case was explaining the reason doctors don't get sick (hint: it's because they aren't afraid of getting sick). Another testimonial to just "desiring" something and making it happen involved a preacher who wanted a million bucks, and sure enough, someone gave it to him. Sorry, but that's not how this world works.

I only finished this book due to the rave reviews it got elsewhere. If you want to get rich, start by saving your money and not buying this book.

Think And Grow Rich is a great book. I recommend listening to Bob Proctor’s YouTube video on Napoleon Hill’s book. This book has invaluable information that everyone needs to read. -Isaac Miller (Author Of, Just Get Up: And Manifest Inner Genius)

I eat up self-improvement books on a pretty regular basis and age or popularity ordinarily does nothing to persuade my interest. Given the longevity of this one I, however, relented. This was a pretty quick read, gave clear suggestions to improve success, and was full of interesting and inspirational anecdotes.

As I continued to read through this book, I found it to become a little samey. Like many books of this type there are only a few core elements that the book is structured around. The 'filler' often lay in the convincing stories that allow the reader to believe they can emulate the success. This occurred but I appreciated the positivity and was, initially, convinced on its brilliance. I soon began to question how the seemingly simple suggestions could relate the real-world, however. There were some inspiring elements but I found others to be beyond the range of my belief and could not believe that success and riches could be so easily garnered.

This was a solid self-improvement book but I have read others, in the same vein, that gave me a more solid foundation on which to go ahead and achieve all promised, in my own life.

There are some valuable things to pick up from this book but it definitely tested my patience, it's so repetitive and annoying and philosophical and abstract.
But it's something that takes time to absorb. I will probably come back to it in the future, when I need a dose of motivation.
