I'm so excited as I'm pregaming for seeing Kieran in this on Broadway for my birthday.
David Mamet is an extremely well-known and excellent screenwriter and director, as well as a playwright. There is no need to list here the titles of the movies he has directed or those based on his plays or screenplays. I have seen several of them and all seemed very good to me.
Now, regarding "Glengarry Glen Ross", which won the Pulitzer Prize for David Mamet and is by far his most widely read play, we are basically dealing with the American Nightmare (a paraphrase of the American Dream). Its protagonists are some real estate salesmen who do everything to make a deal and climb high on the... scoreboard. Essentially, we follow a day in the office, all the differences they have, the anxiety and agony for a good sale, the whole paranoia around the world of real estate sales - and not only.
It is a powerful work, with realistic dialogues full of intensity and sting, which reveals in the most brutal way the functioning of modern enterprises. Of course, in some cases, the whole style of the dialogues may not suit everyone. There were quite a few cases where the protagonists did not complete their sentences or made continuous pauses. Of course, the truth is that it may seem different in a theatrical performance.
The Greek edition was published on the occasion of the performances that were initially held at the Theatre of the Journey in Athens and later at the Arts Space in Veria, during the 2001-2002 theatrical season. The edition contains articles about David Mamet's work and the journey of this particular theatrical script, information about the Greek translation, as well as several images. It is a very nice edition, which can be found particularly cheaply at the Politeia (until it runs out...).
The play has been performed in many countries (e.g. England, USA, Japan, etc.), has won several awards, and has also been successfully adapted to the cinema. Fortunately, I have the movie and will watch it very soon, and I wish I could also see a live theatrical performance.
