A fascinating novel about the relationship of a person with his identity. You don't like your identity and want to be free from its bonds, but when you are forced into an incident and create a new identity, you still struggle with your previous identity. You have no liberation; neither with your real identity nor with your constructed identity. Pirandello's witty and sharp text is excellent. And the satire is无与伦比. In short, reading the life of Matteo Pascal was a great pleasure.

This novel delves deep into the complex and often tumultuous nature of identity. It shows how we are constantly shaped by our past and present experiences, and how difficult it can be to break free from the constraints of who we think we are. The story of Matteo Pascal is both thought-provoking and entertaining, making it a must-read for anyone interested in exploring the human condition.

The author's use of language and satire adds an extra layer of depth to the narrative, making it not only a story about identity but also a commentary on society and the human psyche. Overall, this is a remarkable work of literature that will stay with you long after you have finished reading it.

Copernico, Copernico, don Eligio mio, ha rovinato l’umanità, irrimediabilmente.

He has brought about a profound change in our perception. Now, we have gradually adapted to the new conception of our infinite smallness.

We consider ourselves even less than nothing in the Universe, despite all our wonderful discoveries and inventions.

So, what value do you think the news should have? Not just about our particular miseries, but also about the general calamities.

Our stories have become like those of tiny worms.

We used to think highly of ourselves and our achievements, but Copernicus' ideas have made us realize our true insignificance.

This new understanding has had a significant impact on our lives and how we view the world around us.

It makes us question the importance of the things we once thought were so crucial.

Perhaps we need to重新evaluate our priorities and find new ways to give meaning to our existence in this vast and mysterious Universe.

**Rilettura**

Rilettura is an important concept in various fields. It refers to the act of reading again or rereading.

When we engage in rilettura, we have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the text. We can notice details that we might have missed during the first reading.

Rilettura also helps us to better analyze the content, identify the main ideas, and make connections.

It can be a valuable tool for students, as it allows them to improve their comprehension and retention of the material.

In addition, rilettura can be beneficial for writers and researchers. By rereading their own work, they can spot errors, clarify their thoughts, and enhance the overall quality of their writing.

Overall, rilettura is a simple yet powerful practice that can enhance our learning and understanding.

It was Mattia Pascal. I read it many, many years ago in high school... It left me a very pleasant memory, but I vaguely remembered the plot. I approached it again in adulthood and, to my surprise, it is a masterpiece in the true sense of the word.

Not a single word in this work is chosen by chance. A book that grabs you from beginning to end, with a complex and almost surreal plot that presents the protagonist Mattia Pascal, who has died several times and then becomes The Late Mattia Pascal, in front of the sad reality of things.

A novel that shows that we are what society wants us to be and that the moment we deviate from what we should be, everything becomes difficult, almost impossible, and life forces us to return to what we were.

Many food for thought from a novel criticized as unrealistic, but as can be seen from a postscript added later, such a judgment was wrongly attributed. In fact, from a newspaper article on March 27, 1920, just a few years after Pirandello wrote The Late Mattia Pascal, reality far surpasses fantasy... with a story similar to that written by the Master Pirandello.

A great classic of the 20th century that cannot be missing from the list of the best works to read.

In adolescence, I was deeply troubled by this man who annihilates himself, not by his own desire but due to strange entanglements. He goes from crisis to crisis, yet without any transformation. Truly, the crisis is one and only, only the names change, the substance remains unchanged. In the same volume, which I myself had filled with things at that time, the spent Ahinoii 2.0 does not report, there were other things. "Enrico IV", perhaps the best theatrical piece by the Sicilian Gigio, and short stories. The best ones, to my taste and liking, "La giara" with its ineffable Zi' Dima, "L'uomo dal fiore in bocca", "Il dovere del medico". Mattia, all in all, becomes Nobody, with the necessary changes a story already written by a Greek, and in an unrivaled way, over two thousand years ago. Here the theme varies, like Verne varies with his abyssal Nemo, but the core, the hard shell that protects the vital seed, belongs to the brave Homer. The story of Pascal is a bitter one, not of a defeated man but of a morally castrated one. An example, but not original. The best of Pirandello is elsewhere.

This exploration of different literary works and characters reveals the complexity and diversity within the realm of literature. Each piece has its own unique charm and message, yet they all seem to share common threads such as the theme of crisis and transformation. It makes one wonder about the true nature of human existence and the role that literature plays in reflecting and shaping our understanding of it.

A very interesting reading.

To be honest, I was expecting something boring and with nothing to do. However, I really liked the sense of humor that is used.

It made the whole experience much more enjoyable. The way the author incorporated humor into the text added an extra layer of entertainment.

It was like a breath of fresh air, making me laugh and keeping my attention throughout.

I found myself looking forward to each new paragraph, eager to see what funny thing would come next.

This reading has definitely shown me that even the most ordinary topics can be made interesting and engaging with the right touch of humor.

I will definitely be on the lookout for more readings like this in the future.

Luigi Pirandello's masterpiece envisions the story of a man who, believed to be dead, frees himself from his previous life in an introspective and reflective journey, assuming a new identity and new characteristics. However, this new situation will not take long to bring him difficulties.

Along the way, he encounters various challenges that test his newfound identity. He realizes that assuming a new identity is not as easy as it seems. There are consequences to his actions, and he must face them.

Despite the difficulties, the man perseveres. He continues to search for meaning and purpose in his new life. He learns from his mistakes and grows as a person. Through his experiences, he discovers that true freedom comes not from escaping one's past but from confronting it and finding a way to move forward.

This book is rich in various elements. The humor, for instance, is a prominent feature. Pirandello's unique way of presenting raw reality with irony and sometimes bordering on black humor makes the story engaging. The characters find themselves in a web of confusing situations, and their vivid descriptions add to the humorous tone. Some scenes even verge on being farcical, which explains why Pirandello often based his later plays on his novels.

However, the underlying themes are what truly make this book significant. The central theme of the longing for freedom is explored in depth. Mattia suddenly becomes aware of this freedom when he jumps off the train, and this feeling only grows stronger initially. But soon, he is confronted with the limitations of freedom, and his realization of these boundaries intensifies.

The theme of freedom is closely intertwined with the fear of death and the question of what comes after death. Mattia realizes that his faked death does not free him from the reality of death. There are also long philosophical discussions with Signor Anselmo, who believes that humans are the only beings that feel alive, comparing this feeling to a little lamp that everyone carries within and that spreads a circle of light. According to him, death does not exist; the boundary between life and death is "illusory, related to the weak lamp of our personality: in the reality of nature, it does not exist."

Another major theme is the search for identity. For Mattia Pascal, this is literally the case as he has to search for a new name and also wants to reinvent himself. In this search for identity, he constantly bumps up against the insignificance of man and the meaninglessness of existence. This meaninglessness seems to be further enhanced by modern society and the tyranny of the material.

Fortunately, there are also positive elements in life, which Mattia discovers in love. On one hand, there is his love for his daughters, albeit brief, and on the other hand, his love for Adriana.

Intermittently, Pirandello also refers to the creative process of writing and to fantasy, noting that it can never surpass real life (p. 281).

Whether Mattia Pascal finds an answer to his questions, I'll let you discover for yourselves. But I do want to give you the advice that Signor Anselmo gives to Mattia, or rather Adriano: "Laugh, Mr. Meis, for all the useless, senseless torments that it (life) has caused us, for all the phantoms, for all the ambitious and strange mental images that it has evoked before and around us, for the fear that it has instilled in us."

The premise is excellent: if we had the opportunity to abandon our life, leaving behind all socio-economic responsibilities, knowing everything we know and having the means to support ourselves, would it be worth it?

It doesn't seem to me that Pirandello knew how to take advantage of this beautiful idea. Right from the start, he uses the artifice of the subject not being able to live with others in order not to have his identity discovered, or the lack thereof, since he has no documents, and with this the character ends up entering a spiral of self-isolation that leads him almost to depression.

To make matters worse, the narrative structure is very poorly achieved, failing in creating involvement and interest in the plot, because very little or nothing is happening. The story seems to drag on without any real purpose or direction. There are no real conflicts or obstacles for the character to overcome, which makes it difficult for the reader to become invested in his journey.

Perhaps if Pirandello had explored the idea more deeply, delving into the psychological and emotional aspects of the character's decision to abandon his life, the story could have been more engaging and thought-provoking. As it stands, however, it feels like a missed opportunity to explore a fascinating concept.

At the very beginning of the novel, the not overly challenging classic account of Matija Paskal's childhood and youth gradually transforms, as the plot unfolds, into an interesting, bizarre, humorous, lucid, and meaningfully profound story about identity.

Matija Paskal gets an unexpected opportunity to die, that is, to easily extract himself from the unbearable family situation for him. He seizes this opportunity, believing that by becoming someone completely different, someone of his own choosing, a certain Mr. Meis, somewhere completely else, he will be able to live a life free from all the shackles that the mold of his identity has imposed on him.

But not much time passes, and the new identity begins to crumble and becomes unbearable.

Nagla promena identiteta iz korena jeste revolucionarna i pruža osećaj slobode. A drastic change in identity from the root is revolutionary and provides a sense of freedom. However, the revolution is only valid as long as it lasts, and it lasts briefly.

Not a few moments pass, and immediately some new order is established. There ends the freedom.

PS. PS. Here we cannot help but remember the series Mad Men in which the main hero also uses the opportunity to die and continue his life as someone completely different.
