Or perhaps it's a political rally where passionate speeches are being made, but the underlying motives and actions seem somewhat questionable.

This play should have made a significant comeback during the pandemic, especially in the context of January 6 (or perhaps it did? I haven't been closely following the theater world). People are transforming into brutes, blindly following the crowd, and using flimsy arguments. Meanwhile, the rest of us attempt to stay home and remain safe, but struggle to figure out how to reach some of our loved ones who seem to have gone berserk. As a result, we turn to alcohol as a coping mechanism.

"I feel too distraught to visit the museum. I'll nurture my mind at a later time." (He takes the glass of brandy and consumes it.)

"I'm doing this quite intentionally. When the epidemic subsides, then I shall cease drinking."

"DUDARD: The statisticians are surely compiling statistics at present. There will be abundant erudite controversy, you can be certain!

BERENGER: They can only calculate approximately. Everything is happening so rapidly. It gives them no time. No time to calculate.

DAISY: The best course of action is to let the statisticians carry on with their work."

The rhinoceros is a truly remarkable creature. It starts off with great strength and ends with an even more superlative power. Ionesco has an amazing ability to craft a full and coherent story that is filled with really good characters. The leader in the story is a rather silly and short little thing, and I particularly liked the scene when someone danced with a hedgehog. The concept of "the future is in eggs" leads to a very chaotic and outrageous situation, but in a good and exciting way. This work is probably one of my favorite shorter pieces by him. It manages to capture the reader's attention from the very beginning and keep them engaged until the end. The unique characters and the unexpected twists and turns make it a truly enjoyable read.

It's a testament to Ionesco's talent as a writer that he can create such a vivid and engaging world within a relatively short space. I would highly recommend this piece to anyone who enjoys reading stories that are a little bit different and full of surprises.

I truly desire to witness this being performed.

I am well aware that when I am merely reading it, I am lacking that crucial element which infuses life into these plays.

There is something special and intangible about a live performance that cannot be replicated by the act of reading alone.

The energy of the actors on stage, their expressions, movements, and the way they bring the characters to life, all contribute to a completely different experience.

It is as if a whole new dimension is added to the story, making it more engaging, captivating, and immersive.

I long to be a part of that audience, to feel the emotions and be swept away by the magic of the performance.

Only then will I be able to fully appreciate and understand the true essence and beauty of these plays.

Absurdist theatre has had an enormous influence on my own writing. This is especially evident in my first novel, The Hope Valley Hubcap King, and my newest work, The Time of New Weather.

Absurdist theatre is truly the best of the best within its genre. In particular, the title play stands out. It is a peculiar surrealistic fable that tells the story of a gang of rhinoceros that begins to take over the world. They convert nearly everyone into being 'one of them'.

This play is an illuminating and brilliantly absurd parable about the nature of conformity. It is often interpreted as an allegory about the rise of fascism in Europe in the years leading up to World War II. The themes explored in this play are both thought-provoking and relevant, making it a must-read for anyone interested in absurdist theatre or exploring deeper themes through literature.

Overall, the influence of absurdist theatre on my writing has been profound, and I continue to draw inspiration from this unique and captivating genre.

Delightfully absurd!

I don't really concern myself with what Ionesco was attempting to convey through this play.

Although I suspect there are certain notions regarding conformity and independence lurking within it somewhere.

However, it doesn't truly matter.

This is one of those experiences where I believe that attempting to attach labels to it and decode all its potential meanings only serves to diminish it.

I simply relished in its absurdity.

As for the other plays, I must admit that I had no interest in them whatsoever.

Both "The Leader" and "The Future is in Eggs" struck me as sophomoric, juvenile, and just plain ridiculous.

I disliked them intensely.

But, since the primary reason for purchasing the book would mainly be for "Rhinoceros" anyway,

I think it's reasonable to award four stars for the entire collection,

as that's the rating I would give to the star attraction.

I find it almost an insurmountable task to actually and accurately rate absurdist works. However, I have to admit that I quite liked Rhinoceros.

The other two works were way too short to even begin to discuss, let alone make any sense of them. I have no clue how I came across this particular piece. I think it was just a random link attached to some other story that I happened to read. But boy, was it worth the time!

It was an easy read, quick and transparent, and it has managed to stay with me for a while. The whole concept was over the top, but it was quite obvious that it was done on purpose. This added to the charm and appeal of the work, making it a truly unique and interesting piece of literature.

Overall, I would highly recommend Rhinoceros to anyone who is looking for something different and thought-provoking to read. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for those who appreciate the absurd and the unconventional, it is definitely a must-read.

Ridiculous yet philosophical.
