This book wasn't exactly the greatest one I've ever had the pleasure of reading. However, I have to admit that I did find the storyline rather engaging.

There were, unfortunately, some extremely disturbing graphic scenes within its pages. These scenes were so intense that they almost caused me to abandon the book altogether. But, being the determined reader that I am, I persisted.

In the end, I would have to say that it was an average read. It had its moments of interest and excitement, but those disturbing scenes really detracted from the overall experience.

Nevertheless, I'm glad I stuck with it and was able to see the story through to the end.

Faultless

Faultless is a word that implies perfection and flawlessness. It describes something or someone that is without any errors, mistakes, or imperfections. When we say something is faultless, we are expressing our admiration and recognition of its high quality and excellence.

In various aspects of life, faultless performance is highly valued. For example, in the field of sports, athletes strive to achieve faultless techniques and execute their moves with precision. A faultless performance in a game can lead to victory and bring glory to the athlete and the team.

Similarly, in the business world, companies aim to provide faultless products and services to their customers. A faultless product not only meets the customers' expectations but also exceeds them, resulting in customer satisfaction and loyalty. Faultless service, on the other hand, ensures that customers have a pleasant experience and are more likely to recommend the company to others.

However, achieving faultlessness is not easy. It requires hard work, dedication, and attention to detail. It also involves continuous learning and improvement to stay ahead of the competition. Even the most talented and experienced individuals or companies can make mistakes from time to time. Therefore, it is important to have a positive attitude towards mistakes and learn from them to avoid repeating them in the future.

In conclusion, faultless is a desirable quality that we should all strive for in our lives. Whether it is in our personal or professional endeavors, achieving faultlessness can bring us success, satisfaction, and a sense of accomplishment. However, we should also remember that faultlessness is not an end in itself but a means to an end. The most important thing is to keep learning and growing, and to use our skills and talents to make a positive impact on the world around us.

I had a rather difficult time initially getting into this book. However, by approximately one-fourth of the way through, I became completely hooked.

The main character is a highly flawed journalist. The other characters, for the most part, are the journalist's friends and acquaintances. Of course, there are also the villains of the book, all of whom meet a rather violent end - they are murdered!

The story contains a significant amount of violence, sex (both consensual and non-consensual), and drug use, along with numerous discussions about English politics.

This is by no means the typical "murder mystery." It constantly kept me guessing and had one of the most downbeat endings I have ever come across.

Nevertheless, I really liked it. I would rate it a 4.25 out of 5. It offers a unique and engaging reading experience that is sure to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

A reasonably standard (non)political thriller, this novel was likely very much in tune with the times when it was set in '92 and published in '93. However, now it appears as a period piece, filled with semi-forgotten current affairs from my youth. There's the Maastricht treaty, BSE, the Guinness trial, the Faslane protests, and the mine closure protests (I was actually at that one).

The hero, Cameron Colley, a tough and experienced hack, has a mobile phone, a laptop, a dictaphone, computer games, and email. But he still has to look things up in his workplace's library or use “Profile”, the database of people and things. And his car plays tapes of James and The Pixies. It's a half modern world, where everyone smokes. People fax through their stories to the paper, which hasn't yet put up a paywall or have a digital subscriber-only edition.

Cameron is delving into a political conspiracy. Meanwhile, in alternate chapters, we read about someone murdering members of the establishment - the editor of a rightwing broadsheet, a judge, an arms dealer, a pornographer, and an industrialist responsible for corporate manslaughter. I thought I had outwitted Banks and figured out whodunnit less than halfway through the book. But then, towards the end, I realized that I was being led by the nose. I was deciphering the plot just as he intended the reader to do.
