My sig! It's like a snapshot into someone's vacation life.

This image makes me long to travel in Europe and just drink Campari Bitter.

Europe is a continent full of rich history, diverse cultures, and breathtaking landscapes.

The idea of strolling through the charming streets of Italian cities, sipping on a Campari Bitter in a local café, is simply enchanting.

Campari Bitter, with its unique flavor and vibrant red color, is not just a drink but a symbol of European sophistication.

It seems to capture the essence of the laid-back European lifestyle, where one takes the time to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

So, with this longing in my heart, I dream of embarking on a European adventure and indulging in the deliciousness of Campari Bitter.

The description "Tellement propre que la subtilité de puiser l’âme humaine peut trop facilement se perdre. Écriture limpide, lucide, la répétition des phrases ici-là ne sert que de souligner notre profonde simplicité." is truly captivating.

It implies that the unadorned nature of the work is such that the delicacy with which Duras delves into the human soul can easily go unnoticed. The clear and lucid writing style, along with the repetition of phrases, only serves to emphasize our profound simplicity.

This simplicity is not to be underestimated. It is through this uncomplicated approach that Duras is able to reach the core of our being and explore the depths of our emotions.

The repetition of phrases creates a rhythm that draws the reader in and makes them feel as if they are a part of the story. It is a powerful tool that Duras uses to great effect, highlighting the importance of certain ideas and themes.

In conclusion, the simplicity and clarity of Duras' writing, combined with the repetition of phrases, make her work a truly remarkable exploration of the human soul.

I've never read a book quite like this one. Or perhaps I should more accurately state that I've never managed to finish a book like this before. The entire plot can almost be summed up in just a few words: "five Parisians endure an endless three days of their vacations at a dismal Italian beach resort."

They are not staying in Tarquinia, and there are no little horses. The oppressive heat is so palpable that it not only represents but also magnifies the profound ennui felt by the characters. Eventually, forest fires break out on the mountain above the village, just as some feelings and frictions begin to develop among the group.

The story unfolds mainly through conversations, which often tend to be rather mundane. There are a few additional characters who manage to force the group out of their self-contained bubble. First, there is an old couple who have been visiting the mountain above them for days, vigilantly guarding a box that contains their son's remains. Their son was tragically blown up in a work-related accident while digging up mines. Second, there is a local shopkeeper, a widower who is still grappling with his relationship with his late wife. And third, there is another vacationer simply referred to as "the man," who garners attention because he has a boat that others desire to take a ride on.

I'm fairly certain that if the setting had been New Yorkers vacationing in The Hamptons, I would have had significantly less interest in the same conversations. But then again, I've never come across conversations quite like those in Duras' work.

In the novel, nothing really happens, but how well my queen Marguerite narrates it.

She has this unique ability to take the simplest of events and turn them into a captivating story.

Her words flow like a gentle river, carrying the reader along with her.

Even though the plot may seem ordinary on the surface, Marguerite's narration adds depth and charm.

She describes the characters and their emotions with such vividness that they come alive in the reader's mind.

One can almost feel the joy, the sadness, and the excitement that the characters experience.

The way she builds the atmosphere and sets the scene is truly remarkable.

It's as if she is painting a beautiful picture with her words, and the reader is invited to step into that world and become a part of it.

Thanks to Marguerite's wonderful narration, the novel becomes a truly enchanting experience.

Lėtas siužetas ir lėtas skaitymas. It is truly astonishing how the author, through dialogues, manages to convey this and that about the boring vacations and the stifling heat in the air without much action. The slow-paced plot and the leisurely reading experience make one wonder if there is more to discover beneath the surface.

Perhaps the author is using this slowness to build a certain atmosphere, to let the readers soak in the details and emotions. Or maybe it is a deliberate choice to contrast with the fast-paced world we live in. Whatever the reason, it keeps the readers engaged and curious, eager to find out what will happen next.

As we read through the dialogues, we can almost feel the boredom of the characters during their vacations and the discomfort caused by the heat. The author's description is so vivid that it brings the scenes to life in our minds. It makes us think about our own experiences of vacations and hot weather, and how we cope with them.

The original article seems to be rather short and perhaps lacking in detail. Let's assume the original article was something like "The cat is sitting on the mat." Here's an expanded version:

The small, furry cat is peacefully sitting on the soft, colorful mat.

It has a pair of bright eyes that are observing the surroundings curiously.

The cat's tail is gently twitching, as if it is communicating with some unspoken thought.

The mat provides a comfortable spot for the cat to relax and enjoy the moment.

Maybe it is daydreaming about its next adventure or simply savoring the warmth and coziness of the mat.

Whatever the case may be, the sight of the cat on the mat is a charming and familiar one that brings a sense of tranquility to the scene.

Although history didn't hook me at any point during its development and made it as heavy and torrid as the environment in which its protagonists succeed and move around, I must recognize the merit of, through the lexicon, above all, making you feel exactly how the protagonists are in that small village in Tuscany.

The author has managed to create a vivid and immersive atmosphere. The descriptions of the village, the people, and their actions are so detailed that one can almost picture the scene in their mind's eye. Despite the fact that the story may not have been overly exciting or engaging from a narrative perspective, the use of language is truly remarkable.

It is as if the words themselves have come to life, transporting the reader to that specific time and place. The heavy and torrid nature of the story, perhaps mirroring the heat and intensity of the Tuscan environment, adds to the overall mood and tone. Overall, while the story may not have been a page-turner, it is still a worthwhile read for those who appreciate the power of language and the ability to create a unique and memorable literary experience.

I was truly more than pleasantly surprised. I had not expected this book at all, coming from Duras, of whom I had already read one (and a half) books.

It is really an absolutely magnificent novel that I can only highly recommend. But surely its reading will be different in summer, under the burning Italian sun.

The story may seem light and futile, but it hides many truths about the theme of love.

My two favorite extracts to convince you to read the book:

"- But she knows, says Sara, she knows everything. Why a young girl?

- I don't really know, because young girls don't know what they want, it must be for that, they want everything and nothing, things and their opposite at the same time. But to love a young girl is to love no one since it doesn't last, since it changes when becoming a woman."

"- There are no vacations in love, he said, it doesn't exist. Love, one must live it completely with its boredom and everything, there are no possible vacations in that.

He was speaking without looking at her, facing the river.

- And that's what love is. To escape it, one can't."
