When I read these novels back in the day I would have given them 3-3.5 STARS and now would say about one Star
I started reading VC Andrews books in the 1991 and stopped about 2003.
I have read: -Dollanganger Series -Casteel Series -Cutler Series -Landry Series -Logan Series -Orphans Series -Wildflowers Series -Hudson Series -Shooting Stars Series -DeBeers Series -Broken Wings Series
As a preteen reading these novels was a rebellion and the gothic theme also seemed cool. I stopped reading this author because the novelty wore off, the novels are too formulaic that I could not tell one book from another and gothic aspect was lost.
This novel was incredibly tragic. . .so much that it was almost depressing. I found Austins appearance rapid, like they couldnt wait to introduce him so they had to be quick and mess Rain up, and his bond with Rain was unusually fast. Unrealistic. Though, I have to admit I was shocked when Rain was injured. This hasnt happened since the Heaven series. And for some reason, I couldnt take to Rain being in a wheelchair, it just didnt fit her. But I like the message it was trying to tell women: there will be a man out there who loves you for who you are, handicap or not. It really gave me hope for this human race haha. It was a very entertaining book despite its tragicness, and I found myself struggling to put it down at times. Though it lacks the old Andrews' quality, it was still drama-packed, and I love that.
v.c. andrews books are all absolutely amazing and very easily distinguishable from any other authors. i love the darkeness, secrets, lies, very addicting, i have almost every single book!
After finishing this the 3rd book of the Hudson series I have to wonder if anyone bothers proofreading any of the story before they rush it off to sale. There are numerous inconsistencies by the time you get to the 3rd book and it becomes frustrating to know the story better than the author seems to.
