This book was the last one I was missing from Beagle's works (only three!) miraculously translated into Italian, and I already felt like an orphan of his since the last stages of the wonderful scooter journey taken with Phil in the distant 1963.

Peter Beagle and Phil Sigunick, the first a writer and the second a painter, have known each other forever and for about a year they won't speak for more than twenty. His best friend and what will become his first wife can't stand each other. But as said in the afterword, it's a sincere account that immortalizes a piece of America that no longer exists and the fancy of the two former boys. The incomplete maturity emerges from the writing and also, the most beautiful part, their friendship. The journey and their bond simply make one dream.

It seems that the original language edition contains Sigunick's illustrations. It's a pity that, given the exorbitant amount requested by the publisher to obtain the book, they were deliberately omitted. But then again, in Italy "The Last Unicorn" isn't even mentioned by the great fantasy enthusiasts, and neither is the author a well-known name. The operation would have proven too expensive. So it's okay, I'm glad I was able to fill the gap at least. Here it's about travel literature that can't be missing for those who appreciate it. Five very much deserved stars!

I picked this up because I had a deep love for The Last Unicorn. At the very beginning, I didn't really like it. Beagle and Sigunick presented themselves in certain poses, and it took me a while to realize that their poses were just for fun. However, as I continued reading, they started to remind me of the friends I had in my youth. By the end of the book, I truly didn't want this wonderful journey to come to an end. The book just sat on my desk, with only the last chapter remaining unread, for a whole week before I was finally willing to finish it and say goodbye.

When I finally reached the ending, I was amazed. It was absolutely perfect. It tied up all the loose ends in the most beautiful way and left me with a sense of satisfaction and a touch of sadness. It was like saying goodbye to old friends. This book has truly left a lasting impression on me, and I will always cherish the memories it has brought back of my youth and the wonderful journey it took me on.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story, filled with interesting characters and a touch of magic. It is a book that you will not want to put down once you start reading it.

I don't know why it took me such a long time to start reading this book.

It is truly a lovely read, filled with a wonderful blend of humor, sweetness, sadness, and wisdom.

In my life, I have had the pleasure of reading three great "road books."

Although "Outfit" is more than just a road book.

Two of them are Steinbeck's "Travels with Charlie" and William Least Heat Moon's "Blue Highways."

And this one right here is the other remarkable addition to that list.

Each of these books offers a unique perspective on the journey, both literal and metaphorical.

They take the reader on adventures, introduce them to interesting characters, and make them reflect on life's lessons.

"Outfit" is no exception.

It has the power to captivate the reader from the very first page and keep them engaged until the end.

I'm so glad I finally picked it up and started reading.

It has truly been a memorable reading experience.

Beagle's account of a cross country road trip is truly captivating.

He presents the narrative in such a unique style that it keeps the reader constantly on the edge, wondering whether what they are reading is a real-life adventure or a work of fiction.

The details he provides are so vivid and engaging that one can easily picture themselves along for the ride.

From the beautiful landscapes to the interesting characters he encounters, every aspect of the trip comes to life on the page.

It's as if Beagle has the ability to blur the lines between reality and imagination, making it difficult to distinguish which is which.

Whether it's a true story or not, his writing is sure to transport you to another world and leave you with a sense of wonder and excitement.

A kind of travellogue that tells the story of a couple of friends who embarked on an adventure of riding their small motorcycles from the east coast to the west coast. The journey was not overly remarkable, lacking in those truly outstanding or unforgettable moments. It was just an average account of their travels on two wheels.

If you are seeking a more engaging and captivating experience of motorcycle travel, it is advisable to read books like Long Way Round or Jupiter's Travels. These works are likely to offer a more in-depth and interesting exploration of the world of motorcycle adventures, filled with exciting anecdotes, beautiful landscapes, and unique encounters.

While the travellogue in question may have its own charm, it fails to reach the level of excitement and memorability that these other books can provide. So, if you want to truly immerse yourself in the world of motorcycle travel and be inspired by the experiences of others, it is worth delving into these recommended reads.

Another of my all-time favorite books is an account that takes readers on an exciting journey.

It tells the story of two beatnik-era buddies who traverse the country on motorscooters.

They stop in small towns along the way, where they meet a diverse range of people.

These encounters lead to numerous adventures that are both thrilling and heartwarming.

What makes this book truly special is the author's very sensitive ear for capturing the essence of each moment and each person they meet.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Peter Beagle, who is better known for his fantasy writing.

In person, he is as delightful, observant, and witty as he is in this book.

His charm and talent shine through every page, making this a book that I highly, highly recommend to anyone looking for an engaging and unforgettable read.

Whether you're a fan of travelogues, character-driven stories, or simply great writing, this book is sure to satisfy.

So don't miss out on the opportunity to embark on this amazing adventure with these two beatnik buddies.

Pick up this book today and let it transport you to a different time and place.

A fun little book is presented here, which covers the adventures of Beagle and his friend Phil. In 1963, they embarked on a journey across the US on motor scooters. What's remarkable is that they did this on a shoestring budget and with minimal planning. Their witty and at times bizarre dialogue truly enlivens the book. Beagle's gift for a funny turn of phrase adds an extra charm. As one reads through the pages, it becomes fascinating to observe how different the world was in 1963. The social, cultural, and technological landscapes were vastly distinct. However, in some ways, it's also interesting to note that certain aspects have remained unchanged. The essence of friendship, the spirit of adventure, and the ability to find humor in the simplest of situations are timeless.

I struggle with this book.

On one hand, it was interesting and well-written. The author's description was vivid, making me feel as if I was experiencing Beagle's cross-country journey together with him, just like a silent, unobtrusive, and invisible passenger/comrade.

However, on the other hand, it was not really my style. I found myself wishing to be one of the many "characters" he had met along the journey who "adopted" him.

Perhaps I'm feeling disappointed because the rising action is quite long. For a long time, I was waiting for the story to reach its climax. But when it finally came, it seemed that there was very little falling action. The expected climax just came at the end of the story, and then it was over quickly.

This made me feel a bit let down. I had hoped for a more drawn-out and exciting conclusion.

Overall, although the book had its merits, it didn't quite meet my expectations.

Peter S. Beagle's autobiographical account of his cross-country scooter trip with an artist friend is truly a remarkable slice of Americana.

Set firmly in the 1960s, it has the feel of a more subdued "ON THE ROAD" for a different breed of American - one who is more literary, clean-cut, and yet has a softer, sentimental core. This style is very much in line with Beagle's usual bittersweet approach.

Readers who come to this expecting a typical fantasy novel will likely be disappointed. However, those who are seeking something gentle, unique, and filled with the essence of youth and aimlessness will be more than pleased that they took the time to explore this subtle little volume. It offers a charming and evocative look at a specific moment in time and a particular state of mind, making it a worthwhile read for those with an appreciation for the nuances of life and literature.

I read this as a result of my daughter recommending I read "The Last Unicorn" by Beagle. I am not normally a fan of fantasy fiction, but I took the plunge and was greatly impressed by "The Last Unicorn". I enjoy a good biography or autobiography of an author I am curious about, and that is how I came to read "I See by my Outfit".

So here goes: Beagle recounts his experiences as he travels across the United States from New York to California on motor scooters. In his stories, he shares everything from quirky encounters with people to the challenges of traveling by motor scooter. His narrative is a rich mix of wit, introspection, and vivid descriptions of his travels. All while offering profound reflections on life, aging, and the freedom of the open road. Through the journey, Beagle contemplates the joys and absurdities of such an unexpected adventure. He connects with the people and places he visits in unique and memorable ways. I truly enjoyed the book as it allowed me to get to know the author, Beagle, on a deeper level. It was a fascinating exploration of his life and travels, filled with humor, heart, and a sense of adventure.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good travelogue or an insight into the mind of a creative author. It is a captivating read that will leave you inspired and entertained.

Yes, I'm truly falling for Peter S Beagle.

His nonfiction road trip recount is without a doubt the best kind of travel story. It has this magical charm that draws you in and makes you feel as if you're right there with him on the journey.

The way he describes the landscapes, the people he meets, and the experiences he has is so vivid and engaging. It makes me eager and excited.

I'm ready to embark on my own road adventure, to set off on the road and see what wonderful sights I can discover and who amazing people I can encounter.

I'm looking forward to creating my own memories and having stories to tell, just like Peter S Beagle.

His work has inspired me to take that leap and go on a journey that could potentially change my life.

So, here I am, filled with anticipation and ready to embrace whatever comes my way on this new adventure.

What a truly fun ride it must have been!

In the spring of 1963, Beagle and his friend Phil embarked on an exciting motor scooter trek. They set off from the bustling city of New York with a sense of adventure in their hearts and a destination of California in their sights.

As they cruised along the highways and byways, the wind in their hair and the sun shining down on them, they must have felt a sense of freedom and excitement that is hard to put into words.

I can't help but wish that I could have climbed on the backs of their scooters with them and joined in on the adventure. It would have been an amazing experience to see the country from the back of a motor scooter and to share in their journey.

Who knows what kind of memories they made along the way or what kind of stories they have to tell. But one thing is for sure, their motor scooter trek from New York to California in 1963 was a ride that they will never forget.
