The last fourth of this book was truly worth all the tedium that preceded it. Eve's story had me in tears forever. It's perhaps fitting that there wasn't a proper conversation or closure between her and Savannah. Eve simply had to walk away, as that was the essence of her character arc. But still, I felt so sad about it.

Overall, though, the book was overly long. The plot meandered too much and was filled with characters that I didn't really care about, except for Eve. It took me an inordinate amount of time to get through it. Ultimately, I think it might have been more effective as one of the companion books. Something shorter, with a tighter plot. I could never bring myself to be interested in the stuff with the Nix. It was just a device to further Eve's much more satisfying character arc, but somehow it ended up dominating the whole book.

Maybe if the author had focused more on Eve and her relationships, and less on the convoluted plot with the Nix, the book would have been a better read. As it is, it's a bit of a mixed bag.

It took me a considerable amount of time after reading Industrial Magic to carry on with this series.

Industrial Magic had been so excruciating that it was arduous to persuade myself to invest more time in the series, despite having adored the first two books.

Fortunately, Haunted is a significant enhancement compared to the previous book, although it still doesn't reach the caliber of Bitten.

I truly relished numerous concepts in this book. The regulations of being the ghost of a supernatural being, the workings of the supernatural-ghostly dimension, the villain's distinctive traits, and the manner in which she exploited her partners/victims - all these elements were lucidly explained and effectively utilized in the narrative to fashion a story that was genuinely novel and captivating.

I didn't encounter any difficulties in believing or comprehending the characters' motives, which was an aspect that had weakened the past two books for me.

My principal gripe was how unthreatening Eve and Kristof Nash were. Previous books had depicted a darker image of them from others' perspectives, but that didn't truly materialize here. It might have been for the sake of making the protagonist likable, but I would have preferred them to be a bit more rough-edged. Eve does mention the people she's slain and suggests killing innocent individuals to capture the villain, but it feels as if it's sugarcoated.

I truly have a great passion for reading this series.

The characters within it are constantly evolving, which makes the story all the more engaging.

They develop and change in ways that keep me on the edge of my seat, eager to see what will happen next.

Moreover, the relationships among the characters are being rekindled.

Old friendships are being revived, and new bonds are being formed.

This adds another layer of depth and complexity to the story.

I find myself completely hooked, unable to put the books down.

Every time I pick up a new installment, I am immediately drawn into the world that the author has created.

I can't wait to see how the story will continue to unfold and how the characters will further develop.

This series has truly become one of my favorites, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good read.

Largo, aburrido e innecesario.

This book fails to bring anything new to the table regarding the argument arc of the previous books. It's about Eve, a ghost and mother of Savannah, searching for and fighting against a kind of murderous demon called Nix, with the help of her former love and father of her daughter, Savannah, and an angel. An angel! As if that was what was lacking.

The world of ghosts that Kelley Armstrong has created doesn't appeal to me. In fact, I didn't understand 90% of how it functions and life in that plane, as she calls it. The previous characters hardly appear. Paige and Lucas show up only once throughout the entire book, except at the end when the action and the interesting part of the book begin (which is, like, three chapters in total). Savannah is more of the same.

In short, it's a senseless mess.

.

If it had more connection with the other characters and they had their share of the spotlight, well, it might have had some sense, but it was very boring and also Eve is completely dispensable... a book about her wasn't necessary, and if it was an entertaining ghost story, okay, but pfff. It also didn't help that I spent most of the time confused and not understanding anything while reading it. The truth is, with the interesting characters there are in these books... Nick, Adam, Savannah, Aaron, Sean also catches my attention a lot, Xavier!!!!! But well. I will continue reading.
