The last fourth of this book was truly worth all the tedium that preceded it. Eve's story had me in tears forever. It's perhaps fitting that there wasn't a proper conversation or closure between her and Savannah. Eve simply had to walk away, as that was the essence of her character arc. But still, I felt so sad about it. Overall, though, the book was overly long. The plot meandered too much and was filled with characters that I didn't really care about, except for Eve. It took me an inordinate amount of time to get through it. Ultimately, I think it might have been more effective as one of the companion books. Something shorter, with a tighter plot. I could never bring myself to be interested in the stuff with the Nix. It was just a device to further Eve's much more satisfying character arc, but somehow it ended up dominating the whole book. Maybe if the author had focused more on Eve and her relationships, and less on the convoluted plot with the Nix, the book would have been a better read. As it is, it's a bit of a mixed bag.
