Fast paced thriller, which is enjoyable, albeit lots of technical jargon, and in typical Dan Brown fashion, decidedly far fetched!

The formula is pretty simple:
Big Mystery + Male Protagonist + Female Protagonist + Code to Solve + OMG TRAITOR WITH TWISTED MOTIVES = Best Selling Novel.

And it's worked, so I guess we can't hate on him too much. There are people who swear his books are the best thing they've ever read -- I certainly wouldn't say that. But they are successful and I have to confess, even I like them, and when it comes to books I am Picky with a most definite capital P.

Digital Fortress is the first one I've reread -- I read it yesterday. Coming straight from that into Deception Point, I've noticed very quickly that Dan Brown recycles description/emotional response.

All his characters might as well be the same people -- David Becker (Digitial Fortress) might as well be Robert Langdon (Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code) -- ordinary people caught up in higher things, in over his head and things somehow work out fine. Susan Fletcher (Digital Fortress) is, like Rachel Sexton (Deception Point) a professional woman, pretty, the best in her field, similarly in over her head and somehow coming out okay.

Also, the infodumps get terribly annoying. A brief bit of dialogue and then an absolute shedload of explanation. Another characteristic of Dan Brown's novels -- all very formulaic, as I said.

But hey, it's a formula that works.

أول ما يلفت النظر في هذه الرواية هو أسلوبها السينمائي، ليس فقط في بناء الرواية وطريقة القص، بل في بناء الشخصيات نفسها..
أغلب كتابات دان براون تشعرك أنها كتبت خصيصاً بهدف تحويلها إلى أفلام، وقد تعاظم هذه الإحساس لدي مع روايتي "الحصن الرقمي" و"حقيقة الخديعة" بشكل خاص، الأولى من خلال المشاهد الختامية فيها والثانية من خلال شخصية "الممثل المساعد" كما أحب أن أسميه، وهو مساعد البطل خفيف الظل، الذي يبرع في استدرار الضحك من خلال تصرفاته الخرقاء وتعبيراته التلقائية وهو بالطبع أكثر شخصية تتعرض للضرب!
يمكنني أن أذكر عدداً لا حصر له من الشخصيات في السينما الأمريكية بهذا الشكل، فمساعد البطل من خلال شخصيته الخرقاء يبرز كمال البطل على نحو أفضل، حتى صارت تلك الطريقة من علامات السينما الأمريكية التي لا يمكن أن ترى فيلماً فيها إلا احتوى ذلك النمط من الناس.
لا أعرف إن كان ذلك الأسلوب قد تسرب إلى كتابات دان براون بشكل طبيعي أم أنه تعمد تلك الطريقة لإقناع المنتجين بتحويل المزيد من رواياته إلى أفلام.
"شفرة دافنشي"، "ملائكة وشياطين" وأخيرا "الرمز المفقود" لم تحتوي على نفس هذا التوجه السينمائي، ربما لأن طبيعة الرواية ونوعية شخصية البطل (روبرت لانغدون) الذي صار معروفاً لدى الجمهور، تجعل هذه الروايات لا تحتاج إلى بناء شخصياتها بهذا الشكل السينمائي الصريح، لا سيما أننا بعد 3 روايات صرنا نفهم شخصية "روبرت لانغدون" جيداً، وتكشفت لنا تركيبته وأعماقه، فلا داعي لإفساد الرواية بوضعها في قالب التصوير السينمائي المميز للسينما الأمريكية، والتي أعتبرها، في رأيي الخاص، شديدة الضحالة فيما يتعلق بإظهار عمق الشخصيات وتركيباتها النفسية.

فيما عدا ذلك لابد لي من الاعتراف أن "دان براون" هو موهبة حقيقية.. فعندما قرأت "شفرة دافنشي" لأول مرة، انبهرت بطريقة السرد وغزارة المعلومات، لكنني ظننتها مجرد "ضربة حظ" بالنظر إلى نوعية الموضوع الشائك الذي تناولته الرواية.
لكنني بعدما قرأت باقي أعماله، ورغم اعتراضي على الأسلوب السينمائي الضعيف والساذج الذي يعمد إلى استخدامه في بعض الأحيان، إلا أنني لازلت مبهورة بقدرة دان بروان على السرد المشوق (أسلوب شهرزاد كما أحب أن أسميه، حيث يتوقف في نهاية كل فصل عند نقطة شديدة الإثارة والتشويق)، وكذلك بغزارة المعلومات في مجالات متعددة ومتباعدة من الأديان إلى الرموز إلى العلوم الطبيعية إلى علوم الكمبيوتر مما يجعلني أقدر الجهد الفائق الذي بذله الكاتب في البحث والدراسة قبل أن يبدأ الكتابة، هذا إضافة إلى قدرته الفائقة على مزج الواقع بالخيال حتى لا تعود قادراً على التمييز بين الإثنين، والأهم قدرته على مفاجأتي في نهاية الرواية بما لا يمكن أن اتوقعه في كل مرة، فرغم أنني اعتدت على أن أبعد الشخصيات عن الشبهات في روايات دان براون، هي غالبا العقل المدبر لكل المؤامرات التي تتمحور حولها الرواية، إلا أن النهايات تظل غير متوقعة إطلاقاً، وشخصية الشرير، باستثناء رواية واحدة فقط من رواياته، لم أفلح أبداً في استنتاجها من خلال الأحداث وحتى السطر الأخير من الرواية.
الحبكات المتقنة، والأسلوب المقنع الذي لا يدع مجالاً للثغرات، والمعرفة الموسوعية التي تجعلك مندمجاً في الرواية تماما.. كلها من أبرز خصائص أسلوب دان براون، والتي تقنعني بانتظار رواياته القادمة بفارغ الصبر وأنا اعرف يقينا أنني ساستمتع بها.

n  NASA AND MY PERSONAL ADMIRATION FOR THAT INSTITUTIONn

n  In my mind, the men and women of NASA are history's modern pioneers. They attempt the impossible, accept failure, and then back to the drawing board while the rest of us stand back and criticize.n

Back then in 2009, I found this novel by chance or fate.

By then, I already knew who Dan Brown was (it's not like I was living in cave, hehehe) but I still have to read his way popular books with the character of Robert Langdon. (While I already watched the two film adaptations done so far)

However, I found interesting to read this book since I noticed that the story involved NASA.

I am a huge fan of NASA, maybe an indirect result of being a fan of Star Trek, I don´t know, maybe even it can be due to being even before fan of Lost in Space and Space: 1999. The main point is that I admire a lot to NASA.

And I am still a great fan of anything related with NASA.

In fact, one of my fondest memories is when finally I was able to visit the Kennedy Space Center. And even bought a jacket of those (green-like with NASA and Space Shuttle patches) the astronauts wear when they aren't using, well... space suits! :P


n  ALIEN LIFE BUT NOT YOUR TYPICAL GREEN MENn

n  There's just no substitute for the truth.n

Here, you will find a very good story about the possibility of finding alien life. But maybe not in the way that you were expecting. But a more realistic scientific approach. I liked a lot the way of how Dan Brown proposed his idea of the finding of alien life, since it can be easily the way as it will happen in real life.


n  ANYTHING THAT NEEDS MONEY FUNDING, EXPECTS RESULTSn

n  Anyone who said power was not addictive had never really experienced it.n

I think that a proof of how good is this book (at least to me) is that it's a real dark story, full of dangers and deceptions (it's on the title!) related to NASA and since I admire the institution but the story is presented in such smart and plausible way that I could embrace the tale with open mind, understanding the intended bottom line in the book. Since after all, one thing is any organization and its inspiring goals, and other the people which manage it, that after all, they are just human beings.

This book is written in way that if you are fan of Michael Crichton books, you will like this one too. It has a narrative style so engaging that I enjoyed a lot the reading experience.

The writing style of Dan Brown is fantastic and I enjoyed the whole experience of reading the book, even more since in some novels you have a very good main plot but some dull secondary plot and/or scenes that you feel "dragged" when you have to read those chapters, but in my personal experience with the novel, I enjoyed to read the whole book with all its plots.

If you like techno-thrillers, NASA-related novels and/or Dan Browns books, certainly you will enjoy to pick this novel.

Highly recommended.

Horrible, un auténtico pestiño.

Me costó horrores terminarla porque con cada situación la rocambolesca lógica interna del autor se complicaba y se hacía más difícil de asimilar. Sus intentos de aunar un mundo real con sus conspiraciones rallan la comicidad extrema en La conspiración, una novela que si os podéis ahorrar mejor que mejor.

Ultra-Pacy and entertaining. An All-nighter after a really, really long time.

Deception Point is a fast paced thriller and enough twists & turns. But overall it was disappointing as a Dan Brown novel. Mainly because:
1.It does not feature puzzles based on symbology or history, which made Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code so interesting, which you will miss.
2. Neither the main protagonist nor the main antagonist leaves any impact. It makes you wonder whether the 'bad guys' are fighting for a good cause & vice versa
3. The climax is incredibly weak & stretched out.
Weakest Dan Brown novel...

الرواية اخفت شخصية القائد الفاسد واظهرتها انها الشخصية الشريفة "ويليام بيكيرينغ" ،، كانت حاجه تستدعي الدهشة اول م يظهر حقيقته ويتقتل بعدها بكام صفحه :D

حركة رائعه جدا ف مزج العلم بالسباسة ، ناسا و الرئاسة ... الحب الحب <3 :D

10 years ago, I read Deception Point for the first time and fell in love with it from the very first line.

This plot-driven story had the impeccable power of interconnecting several storylines, with a masterful and genius pace, into the most chocking twist that anyone wouldn't see coming.

Throughout the times I was reading this novel, my heart kept beating hard and hard in my chest, and I was always on the run to catch-up with the actions that were happening.

In terms of characters, I found all of them to be very interesting in following their perspectives.

I have been re-reading all of Dan Brown's novels this year, and that is to celebrate my 10 years of reading Dan Brown for the first time, starting with the book, which would always be a part of me, and that is The Da Vinci Code. The Da Vinci Code was 'the' book that put me into the path of reading, and for this I would always cherish it--and thus, I am also celebrating the first time I got into reading!
