Several years ago when I read it, I really liked it a lot and shared many of its sentences on Instagram. Later when I went back to look at them, I was in a confused state at that time. It wasn't even that bad. I disagreed with a lot of what it said, especially regarding love. It was written a bit negatively. But it's still worth reading. I still give it as a gift to different people.

Several years ago, when I first came across this piece of writing, I was immediately captivated by it. I had such a strong affinity for it that I couldn't help but share numerous sentences from it on Instagram. At that time, I was completely immersed in its words and thought it was truly wonderful. However, as time passed and I revisited those shared sentences, I found myself in a rather confused state. Upon closer inspection, I realized that perhaps it wasn't as perfect as I had initially thought. In fact, I disagreed with a significant portion of what it had to say, particularly when it came to the topic of love. The way it was written seemed a bit on the negative side, which was quite different from my own perspective. Nevertheless, despite these differences, I still believe that it has some value and is worth reading. In fact, I continue to give it as a gift to various people, hoping that they might also find something meaningful within its pages.
Dialectics of Solitude (Love)
- "To live means to separate from what we were in order to reach what we will be hidden in the future."
- "Man is the only being who knows he is alone and the only being who is in search of others. His nature - if one can use this word in relation to man who has made himself by saying 'no' to nature - has within it the desire and thirst for the fulfillment of himself in others. Man himself is the connection of the pain of exile and the passage of time."
- "Love is not a 'natural' thing. Love is a human thing, the most human fiber in the personality of man. It is something that we have created ourselves and does not exist in nature. It is something that we create and destroy every day."
- "As a result, in the protection that is given to marriage, love is pursued and vice is either ignored or given formal approval. Our two-step perception of vice is completely revealing. Some nations consider it a sacred institution, but among us vice is sometimes gluttonous and sometimes lustful. Vice itself is a caricature of love, a sacrifice of love, a symbol of all the powers that tear our world apart."
- "Adolescence is a period of separation from the world of childhood and a brief pause at the threshold of adulthood. It is more clearly noted that solitude is one of the prominent characteristics of adolescence. Narcissus, that alone man, is the exact image of adolescence. It is in this period that we first become aware of ourselves as individuals."
- "The literature of young nations - with the exception of Spain where young people are always orphans or widows - is full of young people; lonely people in search of connection: full of circles, swords and dreams. Adolescence is a provisional state that ends with the step into the real world."
These and many other thought-provoking events that are poetically expressed by Octavio Paz have made it more attractive than a simple philosophy. The above parts mainly belong to the first half of the book. The second half - which is an idealistic critique of the development of the human mind in the face of solitude - but requires a more careful reading. At the end, the author, who seems satisfied with the explanation of his dialectics, claims in the completion of his explanations that: "In Ortega's words: 'This is our inner time', this is the essence of our dreams and the meaning of our actions."
To be honest, it didn't appeal to me at all. It was extremely fragmented and disjointed. Just like it was mentioned in the preface of the book, this is not just a chapter of the book, but this one chapter, which is more than fifty pages long, considering that the book is short, it talked in a very disjointed, fragmented and negative way. When I finished it, I was confused. I looked at the fifth print and only thing that came to my mind was that it only sells because of its title -_- and I once again believed that a book that is recommended by many and given high ratings doesn't necessarily have to be good.
