I borrowed this book from a friend at my Writing club. It was really funny, and I found it quite necessary for my house. The book expounds on numerous reasons why one should de-clutter their living space and get rid of junk. However, the trouble lies in the fact that there are only so many ways to convey this message in a book of a certain length.

I was actually quite glad when the book finally ended. Nevertheless, it has served a useful purpose as it has inspired me to commence the process of cleaning up and ridding my house of all the countless extras that have been creating huge messes. Yikes! It truly feels so much like work! But I know that in the end, it will be worth it to have a clean and organized home.

If you are a pack rat and are looking to reform yourself, this is your book.

Don Aslett approaches the task of dejunking your life in a highly humorous manner, making it not seem like a chore at all.

He presents practical and easy-to-follow tips and strategies that can help you declutter your living space and simplify your life.

The book is filled with entertaining anecdotes and real-life examples that make it both engaging and informative.

I know it might sound corny, but this book really changed my life to some degree.

It made me realize the importance of letting go of things that no longer serve a purpose in my life and living a more minimalist lifestyle.

After reading this book, I was inspired to clean out my closets, drawers, and storage spaces, and I was amazed at how much stuff I had accumulated over the years.

Thanks to Don Aslett's humorous and practical approach, dejunking my life became an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

If you are tired of living in a cluttered and chaotic environment, I highly recommend this book.

It might just be the inspiration you need to start living a more organized and fulfilling life.

This book is not as excellent as his first one.

Mostly, it just contains antidotes about the strange things we collect and why they are considered clutter.

However, it did make me reevaluate everything I've bought since.

I began to wonder whether those items would be regarded as junk or not.

This realization has sort of dampened my enthusiasm for "garage sale-ing."

After all, it's not really just about junk collecting, is it?

There might be deeper meanings and emotions attached to the things we accumulate.

Maybe we should be more conscious of what we bring into our lives and consider whether they truly add value or just take up space.

Overall, this book has made me think twice about my shopping habits and the concept of clutter in general.

It serves as a reminder to be more discerning and intentional in our purchases.

I am a little disappointed in this book.

Actually, it is quite amusing. Especially as you start to read his very comical slandering of your clutteredness.

The disappointment came in that I didn't feel like it had as much instruction as I wanted regarding HOW to actually declutter.

That portion could be boiled down to just 2 pages, and in fact it is in the cover.

The remainder is a good catalog of all the places where you should LOOK for clutter so that there is no stone unturned when it comes to decluttering.

I found it amusing and motivating, but it left me wanting a little on the method.

Perhaps the author could have dedicated more space to practical tips and step-by-step guides on decluttering.

While the catalog of clutter-prone areas is useful, it doesn't provide the detailed instructions that some readers might be seeking.

Overall, the book has its merits in terms of entertainment and motivation, but it falls short in the area of providing comprehensive decluttering guidance.

Maybe a future edition could address this deficiency and offer more in-depth advice on how to effectively declutter one's space.

This book has been of some assistance to me in getting rid of a bit more of my junk. However, I must admit that I definitely had a greater preference for the Peter Walsh book. As I am approximately half-way through this current book, I have begun to skim and skip certain parts. The reason for this is that the content seems to be very repetitive. It feels as if the same ideas are being presented over and over again, which makes it a bit tiresome to read.

I had initially hoped that this book would offer more unique perspectives and practical tips on decluttering. But unfortunately, it has not lived up to my expectations in that regard. Despite this, I will still continue to read it to see if there are any hidden gems or useful information that I might have missed.

Overall, while this book has its merits, it does not compare favorably to the Peter Walsh book that I previously read. I would recommend that others who are interested in decluttering consider reading the Peter Walsh book first before delving into this one.

So,

it was okay in a homespun yarn kind of way.

There were some good tips like: Class rings, we buy them then stick them in a drawer, and no one ever uses them. So, don't even waste your money. Or; storage is the expensive way to throw things away.

And, I saw myself in this one: People in apartments save things for when they get a house, but spend the time in the meantime tripping over all of it.

Yet, I think he's off base on the fashion/clothes department. And this is me talking, as I don't have much of a sense for fashion. But you do need a lot of clothes if you work in an office. It's not just 1/3rd of a closet. And I don't feel that there is a reason to get rid of decent work boots, say, if I don't use them right now. Do you know how hard it is to find women's work boots and gloves that fit well? Well I do, and I will keep them until they aren't usable anymore. But not after that. :)

This shows that while some of the tips were valid, there were also areas where I disagreed with the author's perspective.

The book was extremely easy to read, which made it a great choice for me as I embarked on my Spring cleaning journey. It truly offered some excellent inspiration that helped me get started. Clutter has indeed become a significant problem in my life, causing me to be less efficient in my daily activities.

Thankfully, the book was able to identify several areas that I specifically needed to address. It provided some very useful and practical tips on how to carefully evaluate what items to keep and which ones to let go of. This was extremely helpful as I often struggle with making decisions about what to keep and what to discard.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is in need of a little inspiration to take on the challenge of clutter and to become more organized. It is a valuable resource that can help you transform your living space and improve your overall quality of life.

This book delves into numerous categories of clutter and instructs you to eliminate all of it.

Initially, it appeared to be acceptable. However, as I continued reading, my dissatisfaction grew. It is highly repetitive, and apart from the simplistic approach of "if you don't need it, throw it away" for everything, there are no genuine strategies.

The author comes across as glib, condescending, and flippant. This reaches its peak with an obnoxious sermon at the conclusion.

Ugh! This book itself is clutter and not worth your time.

It fails to provide practical and useful guidance for effectively dealing with clutter.

There are far better resources available that offer more in-depth and actionable advice on decluttering and organizing your life.

Don't be misled by this book's promises.

Save your time and look for something more substantial and beneficial.

This is the very first "clutter" book that I have ever read, and I must say that I have found it to be extremely helpful.

Not only is it filled with practical and useful tips, but it also has a humorous tone that makes it a joy to read.

One particularly interesting section is on how to apply the concept of decluttering to the negative people in your life.

This section alone makes the book well worth reading.

I firmly believe that when you are following your dreams, it is of utmost importance that those around you are supportive.

This book provides valuable insights and strategies on how to identify and deal with negative influences, allowing you to create a more positive and conducive environment for achieving your goals.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to simplify their life and get rid of the clutter, both physical and emotional.

This book is a little outdated, but it did manage to get me in the mood to de-clutter my house.

I have already completed the task of de-cluttering the 2nd floor, and a part of the main floor as well. However, when it comes to the basement and the garage, I find myself a little scared.

The basement is filled with years of accumulated stuff, and I'm not sure where to start. The garage, on the other hand, is a mess of tools, sports equipment, and who knows what else.

But I know that I have to face these challenges if I want to have a truly organized and clutter-free home. So, I'm going to take a deep breath and just start. I'll probably start with a small corner of the basement or the garage and work my way out.

Wish me luck!

I first read this book in the mid-1990s and it truly left a deep impression on me.

I managed to clear out a significant amount of junk, yet I also let go of a number of sentimental items that, to some extent, I now slightly regret losing.

Currently, I find myself once again in a decluttering mode. However, this time around, I have gained enough wisdom to carefully evaluate sentimental items. At the very least, I aim to reduce their number. Moreover, I have learned to sleep on it before impulsively tossing everything in one go.

Aslett's book proves to be excellent for those who are just commencing their decluttering journey. Indeed, it contains a plethora of silly illustrations, and the text has a tendency to alternate between standard size, large, and bold. Nevertheless, it offers a wealth of good advice. As long as you bear in mind your own unique needs and wants, in addition to Aslett's suggestions, you are likely to benefit from it.

And what is my advice? \\n  Never\\n declutter when you are in a state of anger or depression.

I probably would have had a greater appreciation for this book if I didn't already have a good understanding of most of its content from my own experiences. When I was a teenager, I used to hold onto everything, and as a result, my bedroom was filled with clutter. However, in the last 7 years of my life, I have moved 7 (soon to be 8) times. This constant moving has been a great cure for the clutter in my apartment.

I have also been extremely focused on saving money, and following Aslett's suggestions, such as avoiding junk/clutter zones like shopping, has been very helpful in keeping some clutter and junk out of my life.

Nevertheless, while reading this book, I once again caught the de-clutter/de-junk bug. I managed to get rid of 1 box of books and clothes, as well as a box of old magazines that had been lying around for no apparent reason.

This book is definitely worth skimming through. As a society, we really are collectors of clutter, and it's important to be aware of this and take steps to reduce the amount of unnecessary stuff in our lives.
