To be honest, I'm truly surprised that this book managed to score as high as 3 stars with me.

I devoured this one in a mere two days flat. I was eager to get rid of it as speedily as I could manage. However, there's no disputing the fact that King was truly phenomenal with words in this particular work.

Phenomenal is indeed the appropriate word. He is an outstanding wordsmith. Nevertheless, I simply thought that The Shining had a rather tacky premise. It seemed a bit clichéd and lacking in originality. But despite this, King's masterful use of language and his ability to create a sense of unease and tension cannot be ignored.

Overall, while the premise may not have been to my liking, I still have to give credit to King for his remarkable writing skills. It's a testament to his talent that he can make even a story with a less-than-stellar premise engaging and worth reading.

I'm not sure why I only saw the movie and never read the book. I loved the movie so much, yet it makes no sense that I didn't read the book earlier. But back then, many things didn't make sense to me. I will definitely have to go back and watch the movie again to notice all the little differences. Now that I've read the book, I understand why certain things happened. There are those details that are only in the book, in the characters' heads, but don't show up in the movie. It's quite amazing. I know the book had an impact on me, but I didn't realize it would make me write like this! I hope anyone reading this can understand what I mean.

I really did enjoy the book, although at times, with all the voices in everyone's head, I felt a bit crazier than I actually am! :) I was relieved that one of the bad things that happened in the movie didn't happen in the book. I was dreading reading that part, and thankfully, it didn't occur! Yay! The ending in the book was much better than the movie. Once again, I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading and rereading more of these classic works!
