I saw this movie a while ago, and from what I can recall, this comic is very much like the movie. I'm not sure which one came first, but I think it was the movie. I do remember seeing the "Creepshow" show they made on HBO later and thinking it was extremely scary.
Stephen has talked about his love for reading these kinds of things when he was a child, these comic horror type stories. This one is his own creation. It's a bit cheesy and there is some gore involved. It's full-on gross, but it's more about the emotions than just the graphic elements.
I had seen this and knew it existed, but I hadn't come across it anywhere. I finally found it at my library through the ILL service and was able to read it after all these years. One more Stephen King work completed. He should really do a new, updated version of this.
The crypt keeper is by far the scariest thing about this. That puppet always gave me the creeps when I was a kid. It has such an eerie and disturbing presence that still lingers in my mind.
When I was a kid, horror comics were always my first choice. There was something about the spooky stories and creepy illustrations that just fascinated me. I loved the way they could send shivers down my spine and make my heart race. Whether it was a tale of a haunted house or a bloodthirsty monster, I couldn't get enough of them.
Looking back, I realize that those horror comics played an important role in shaping my imagination. They introduced me to a world of the unknown and the supernatural, and taught me to embrace my fears. They also sparked my love for reading and storytelling, which has stayed with me to this day.
So, hells, yes! Horror comics will always hold a special place in my heart. They are a part of my childhood memories and a reminder of the power of the imagination.
