I truly thought I had rated this one already! I'll have to go and look back. This, without a doubt, is the most effective way to quit, for life. I'm quite certain of it. Try to come up with a better one once you finish reading this. Only King could have come up with such a brilliant idea!

********And for goodness' sakes, I completely agree with Carol. Who in the world thought it was okay to give away that much of a short story in a synopsis? I think they need a STOP WRITING SYNOPSES program specifically designed for writers like this, perhaps even by King himself.*******

***Just recently, I watched the 1985 version of this short story in Cat's Eye. This story is the first of three shorts, with two being from the Night Shift book (the third was made exclusively for the film). That's where I initially thought I had rated it! However, I haven't finished all the stories in it yet, only about 5 so far. I haven't watched the other two because I need to finish the book first. It was quite good. In fact, I didn't even feel the urge to try the newer version. But I did feel that it missed out on the perfect ending that the story had in the book. Although the movie's ending was good, I think they could have added another 30 seconds to include the one from the book. Naturally, the cat, which had the tiniest role in the story, has a much bigger part in the movie (along with Drew Barrymore). I think this ties the stories together for the movie, but it's not really in the book. **An interesting little fact: the beginning of this movie includes a red 1958 Plymouth Fury. It's just a little something fun for Constant Readers to catch. :)

Stephen King is always a great author to read. His stories have a way of captivating readers and drawing them into a world of mystery and horror.

I recently read one of his works and found it to be quite enjoyable. However, I do wish that the story had been a little longer.

Sometimes, with King's shorter stories, I feel like I'm just getting started to understand the characters and the plot when it suddenly ends.

I would have loved to have seen more development and exploration of the story's themes and ideas.

Despite this minor drawback, I still highly recommend Stephen King's work to anyone who loves a good mystery or horror story. His writing is engaging, his characters are well-developed, and his plots are always full of twists and turns.

Whether you're a long-time fan or a new reader, you're sure to find something to enjoy in his books.

The concept of Kafkaesque is often associated with the works of Franz Kafka. However, there is a perfect story that can define this word, and surprisingly, it isn't written by Kafka himself.

This story unfolds in a world that is both familiar and yet strangely distorted. It begins with a protagonist who finds themselves in a situation that seems to have no logical explanation.

As the story progresses, the protagonist is faced with a series of absurd and bureaucratic obstacles. They are trapped in a web of red tape and rules that make no sense, and yet they are expected to follow them blindly.

The Kafkaesque nature of the story is further emphasized by the sense of powerlessness and confusion that the protagonist experiences. They have no control over their situation and are constantly at the mercy of an unknown and unresponsive authority.

Despite the chaos and absurdity, the story manages to capture the essence of the Kafkaesque experience. It shows how in a world that is often unpredictable and unjust, individuals can find themselves lost and alone, struggling to make sense of a reality that seems to have gone mad.

This story serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring relevance of the Kafkaesque concept, and how it can still resonate with readers today.

I think this is the best SK's short story I've read so far.

The story is filled with vivid descriptions and engaging characters that truly bring it to life.

The plot is well-crafted, with twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

SK has a unique writing style that makes the story both accessible and profound.

Each word seems to be carefully chosen to convey the intended meaning and evoke the right emotions.

The setting of the story is also very well-developed, adding an extra layer of depth and authenticity.

Overall, I highly recommend this short story to anyone who enjoys reading well-written fiction.

It's a true gem that will leave you thinking long after you've finished reading.

I can't wait to see what else SK has in store for us in the future.

I'm cheating and using a short story for my "Q", "X" or "Z" prompt on PopSugar. It turns out that I've already read most of what I'm interested in for this prompt. :)

Anyway, this was actually a really good story. I wonder if King ever had difficulties with smoking? But I definitely felt sympathy for the main character. He is trying to turn his life around and quit smoking, and is advised by his friend to participate in a program that completely changed his friend's life.

Well, it turns out that Quitters, Inc is a group of pragmatists who will go to any length to help you quit. They have a 98% success rate with their participants! But what about those other 2%? Well, they'll quit one way or another.

This is a great story! It's part of his Night Shift collection. It really makes you think about the lengths people will go to in order to achieve their goals. The idea of a group that is so determined to help people quit smoking, even if it means using extreme methods, is both fascinating and a little bit scary. It makes you wonder if there are really groups like this out there in the world. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this story and would highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of King's work or who enjoys a good short story.

Entertaining but slight. This description accurately sums up the overall experience. It's not overly complex or profound, but it does manage to provide some level of entertainment. Thankfully, it's not as horrific as it could have been. There were moments when one might have expected a more intense or terrifying turn of events, but fortunately, it didn't go down that path. Instead, it maintained a relatively light and enjoyable tone throughout. While it may not be a masterpiece that will leave a lasting impression, it does serve its purpose as a source of entertainment. Whether it's through its engaging story, interesting characters, or simply its ability to keep the audience's attention, it manages to achieve a certain level of success. Overall, it's a pleasant enough experience that doesn't overstay its welcome.

It truly makes you open your eyes a bit when you see what people are capable of. We often have preconceived notions about others, but in reality, we should avoid judging people too quickly. You never know what someone will do or achieve until you give them a chance. People have hidden talents, strengths, and potential that may surprise us. By withholding judgment, we allow for the possibility of seeing the best in others and giving them the opportunity to shine. It's important to approach each person with an open mind and a willingness to learn and understand. This way, we can build better relationships and gain a deeper appreciation for the diversity of human capabilities.

The premise of this story is truly interesting.

It had the potential to be a thrilling and engaging read. However, I couldn't help but feel that it didn't really reach its full potential.

The stakes were set high, which initially piqued my interest and had me on the edge of my seat. But unfortunately, these high stakes were not explored in-depth.

There were so many opportunities for the author, King, to make this story even more chilling and suspenseful.

He could have delved deeper into the characters' fears and motivations, creating a more intense and immersive experience for the reader.

Overall, while the premise was promising, the execution left something to be desired. I hope that in future works, King will take full advantage of the potential of his ideas and create stories that truly leave a lasting impression.

King is truly a master of the short story format. He has the remarkable ability to go straight to the point, which can be quite challenging for those accustomed to writing lengthy novels.

Perhaps I have an extra appreciation for this story because I, too, am attempting to quit smoking. The concept behind the story is incredibly original, leaving you in awe and wondering how on earth King managed to come up with it!

It is a gruesome and disturbing tale, with certain parts revealing the purest form of human evil.

I would highly recommend it, especially for those who are not fond of supernatural elements. This one is specifically tailored for you.

Quitters, Inc. is an extraordinary company that makes a bold promise - to help you quit smoking, and it's guaranteed.

I'm not entirely sure if I would be as brave as Morrison and risk as much as he did just to get assistance with his smoking addiction. However, I can clearly understand how this company manages to ensure success.

The concept isn't terrifying or horrific in a traditional sense, but there is definitely a hint of darkness to it.

This interesting story is included in the Night Shift collection, which is likely to offer a variety of captivating tales that explore different aspects of the human experience and the strange and unusual.

It makes one wonder about the lengths people will go to in order to break free from their addictions and the extreme measures that some companies might take to achieve their guarantees.

Overall, the idea of Quitters, Inc. is both fascinating and a little bit unsettling, leaving the reader with much to think about.

Unlike its short adaptation, I found Quitters, Inc. to be an extremely enjoyable and rather sickening experience. The story had a unique charm that kept me hooked from start to finish. The characters were well-developed and their actions and decisions added to the overall excitement. The concept of a company that uses extreme measures to help people quit their addictions was both fascinating and disturbing. It made me think about the lengths people will go to in order to break free from their vices. The writing was engaging and the pacing was just right, never allowing me to lose interest. I would highly recommend Quitters, Inc. to anyone looking for a thrilling and thought-provoking read.
