I could go even to [9/10] for the sheer amount of entertainment I got out of the Michael Gallatin adventures. McCammon's skilled control over the plot and the pacing of the narrative is truly remarkable.

There are numerous aspects that are done extremely well in this high octane thriller, with very few to criticize. In a true Indiana Jones style, the hero embarks on one thrilling rollercoaster ride after another. He traverses from the sand dunes of El Alamein to the rooftop of the Paris Opera, and from the rushing train on the outskirts of Berlin to a desolate rocky island in the North Sea. The object of the quest is not just some ordinary archeological relic, but a Nazi plot that has the potential to turn the tide of WW II.

It is no spoiler to mention that Michael is a werewolf. For me, the best chapters of the book were the flashbacks of his life in the Russian forest and his journey of coming to grips with his dual nature. The supporting cast of secondary characters who assist the hero along the way is well-developed. However, perhaps with the exception of the adversaries, who seem a bit over the top in their despicable and dastardly deeds. Michael too, could have easily turned out to be an annoying superhero who is always right and always wins, in the mold of Rambo or Steven Segal. But McCammon was able to temper his special abilities with vulnerabilities, hesitations, and self-doubt. He has to work hard and does not emerge unscathed from his confrontations. Of course, he has quite a charm with the ladies, and in this regard, the novel is rather explicit and mature for young readers. Once again, McCammon strikes the right note with his feminine characters, who are not mere passive eye candy in the story but fierce fighters and independent spirits.

The level of violence and gore is very high, yet I would still rate this book as an adventure thriller rather than a true horror novel.

Cologne Colossus! Eau D'Lycanthrope has truly conquered the world market! "Well, after the war, I had this amazing discovery. I realized I could bottle my animal magnetism and offer it to all those poor souls who don't have the charm I possess when it comes to ultra-beautiful women. Now, any ordinary guy can become a hit with the ladies just by unleashing a little of the savage beast that lies within. I've made so much money that I'm seriously considering buying my own island. Apparently, Australia is very nice at this time of year," said Michael in The Exceedingly Magnetic Gentleman's Journal.

Wow, I have to give credit to McCammon's story vision. Reading one of his books (this is my second) is an arduous task, much like scaling Mount Everest. I almost feel as if I need several base camps and a team of Sherpas to assist me on this literary journey.

While I can't find any flaws in the storytelling itself, I found it rather strangely distractible. It was like when I was reading, and then in the middle of a scene, I would suddenly want to do something else, anything else really. It was almost inexplicable.

Well, almost. It's a bit like the Jack Reacher book I read. There's a fair amount of over-telling or over-describing going on, something along those lines.

Hence, I'm giving it 4 stars due to the lack of story immersion.

That being said, I already own more books by this author, and I'm certain I'll read some more.

Recommended, 4 'Howling at the Moon,' stars

Ok, so let's talk about this fascinating book. It's centered around Michael Gallatin, a Russian werewolf super spy. The story takes place just before D-Day, and he's on a mission to take on the Nazis. Now, here's an interesting point - do the ladies love his musky smell and the way he eats his meat almost raw? Well, the answer is yes they do. It adds an extra layer of allure to his character.

I've been re-reading some of the over the top Robert McCammon novels that I adored in the 80's. And let me tell you, it's been an absolute blast. I just can't get enough of them.

I really hate it when people call McCammon's work trash. In my opinion, what he writes is pulp. Sure, it might have some cheesy elements, but that's part of its charm. I always have the impression of a generous author who always goes all out, pulling out all the stops to give the reader an exciting and unforgettable ride.

So, I highly recommend that you read "The Wolf's Hour". Get ready to be thrilled by an epic fight on a Nazi sadist's fiendishly designed torture train. Hiss at the depraved Nazis as they stage a pornographic vaudeville show that mocks and degrades Churchill. And cheer as the spy, in his werewolf form, liberates a concentration camp! Yes, you read that right, it's an amazing and action-packed story that you don't want to miss.

This is only my second book by McCammon, but I can already tell I'm going to read everything he's ever written. :D

My first was Swan Song, which was both incredibly moving and terrifying. McCammon seems to be able to capture the contrast between good and evil in different kinds of people really well.

Wolf's Hour has some really interesting characters. I particularly enjoyed Michael's backstory, which is revealed gradually throughout the book.

This is tied for first place as my favorite werewolf novel, with Wolfsong by T. J. Klune. I enjoyed this very much. <3

The way McCammon crafts his stories is truly captivating. His ability to bring the characters to life and make the reader invested in their fates is remarkable.

In Wolf's Hour, the plot is filled with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat.

The setting is vividly described, making it easy to imagine yourself in the midst of the action.

I can't wait to explore more of McCammon's works and see what other精彩的 stories he has to offer.

This is an absolutely great story.

It revolves around a man who serves as a spy for the government. What makes it even more intriguing is that he happens to be a werewolf.

At first glance, it might sound sort of corny, but let me tell you, it's far from it.

This story is truly fantastic!

The characters are developed in such a way that you will find yourself completely drawn to them.

Each one has their own unique personality and backstory, which adds depth and complexity to the overall narrative.

You will love getting to know these characters and following their adventures.

The story is filled with action, suspense, and a touch of the supernatural, making it an extremely enjoyable read from start to finish.

Whether you're a fan of spy thrillers or supernatural fiction, this story has something for everyone.

So, don't hesitate to give it a try. You won't be disappointed!

The first book of '24!'

It is truly an amazing piece of work. I have read this book not just once or twice, but thrice. The reason is simple - it is one of my all-time favorite McCammon stories. The vivid characters, the thrilling plot, and the masterful storytelling have always drawn me in.

This time around, I decided to listen to it on Audible, and it was an absolute delight. The narrator did an outstanding job of bringing the story to life. The different voices and accents added an extra layer of authenticity to the characters.

Listening to the book allowed me to experience it in a whole new way. I could focus on the details of the story without having to worry about the physical act of reading. It was like being transported into the world of '24!' and living the adventure along with the characters.

I would highly recommend this book, whether you choose to read it or listen to it on Audible. It is a must-read for all fans of McCammon and anyone who loves a good thriller.

What if one of the Allies' greatest spies during WWII was a werewolf?

The Wolf's Hour is the story of Michael Gallatin, formerly Mikhail Gallatinov. His journey is an expansive and rich one, filled with intense emotional and physical moments. While it may not technically be an epic, it certainly feels that way to me. There is so much to explore about how Michael evolves from a privileged eight-year-old during the bloody Russian Revolution to a thirty-four-year-old British Secret Service spy.

Things to Take Into Consideration:

*This is a violent and gory book. The action scenes are vividly and often gruesomely described. If you're squeamish, be cautious. I'm not a fan of gore, and I often winced while reading. However, it doesn't seem gratuitous. Why? Because this is about predators, both human and animal. Michael must learn to survive in the brutal world of the wolf and the even more brutal (and often unnecessary) viciousness of humanity. McCammon contrasts wolves and humans. Wolves kill for survival, while the Nazis and some Russians in the Revolution commit vile acts out of pure evil.

*There is a significant amount of sex in the book. Michael's life spans nearly thirty years, and he has numerous relationships with women. While I'm not a big fan of seeing a character have multiple hookups, I suppose it adds another layer to his character. In all these encounters, it's clear that Michael respects and loves women.

*The book focuses heavily on the WWII era. McCammon doesn't shy away from the atrocities committed by the Nazis. If this is disturbing to you, you may want to skip this book. However, if you're interested in WWII, I do recommend it. It mainly focuses on the Nazis as the evil force behind the war and doesn't delve as deeply into the Soviet side.

*This book is about loss, struggle, and the strength it takes to keep going when everything familiar and comfortable is taken away. It's angsty and sad, but McCammon does a great job of building and maintaining the tension. Michael shows remarkable fortitude in the face of all he endures.

*The combination of espionage and the supernatural is well-executed. Just because Michael is a werewolf doesn't mean things are easy for him. His dual nature is both a strength and a liability. The portrayal of lycanthropy suits the tone and story well. The espionage unfolds realistically, with all the risks and sacrifices involved.

Concluding Thoughts:

The Wolf's Hour is a captivating and engaging read. It deeply engaged my emotions. The story of Michael Gallatin, a man with many identities, drew me in. He's a great hero, and this is a great story about his life. When I finished, I was sad because I felt like he was part of my life during the time I spent reading. I highly recommend this novel!

The devil is in the details.

"Even a man who is pure in heart,

And says his prayers by night,

May become a wolf when the wolfsbane blooms,

And the autumn moon is full and bright."

Curt Siodmak

Forget all of that. This is not your typical classic werewolf story. For starters, the werewolf here is not a menacing monster. Instead, he is the heroic figure, working clandestinely for British intelligence during World War II against the Nazis. Moreover, there is nothing supernatural about this particular werewolf. Bullets, blades, car and airplane crashes, explosions, and the like can all bring an end to this wolf and his comrades.

This is indeed an entertaining thriller, worthy of four stars in that regard. However, one should not expect all the little details to be precise. For example, bullets frequently ricochet from objects that they理应 penetrate and penetrate things from which they should ricochet. The Nazi medals, insignia, and so on are incorrect. And the list goes on. It might deserve only two stars, or perhaps even just one for accuracy. I'll settle on a compromise of three stars overall.

After reading the blurb of this book, I was quite uncertain about what I was anticipating from it.

I haven't delved deeply into World War and spy books. The only appealing aspect to me was that the protagonist of this book was a werewolf.

I had read McCammon’s Boy’s Life, which is one of my all-time favorites. So, I wanted to explore more of his works and picked this one. It's a decision I will never regret.

Wolf’s Hour narrates the story of Michael Galletine, a British spy during World War II. He possesses all the essential traits to be a master spy, but his greatest asset is his ability to shape-shift into a werewolf when the situation demands.

Michael had bid farewell to the secret services until he had to undertake a mission that required him to journey all the way to Germany and uncover a top Nazi experiment.

Mr McCammon also reveals how Mikahil, a young Russian boy, became a werewolf and later transformed into Michael, a highly regarded British spy.

Mikahil and Michael were both remarkable, but my heart went out to the child Mikahil and his struggle to come to terms with all the changes that accompany being a werewolf.

His journey of learning to live in a pack and earn the respect of his fellow pack members was truly a heartwarming tale, one that I relished even more than Michael’s exploits.

At first glance, the combination of World War and Werewolf doesn't seem very promising, and that's exactly what I thought. However, this book completely blew me away.

Mr McCammon’s storytelling is simply outstanding. Every adventure in Michael’s life, whether from his childhood or his clandestine spy life, is described in beautiful words that kept me turning the pages incessantly.

Another aspect that deeply affected me was the atrocities of war and how they were impacting the lives of ordinary people. Some of the events described in the book were truly brutal.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to everyone.

When D-Day is under threat, Michael Gallatin is enlisted by the British Secret Service. Michael is not just an ordinary spy; he is a master spy - and a werewolf.

As he parachutes behind enemy lines, his skills both as a man and as a beast will be put to the test like never before.

The story is filled with non-stop action, bouncing from the woods of Russia, where Michael first receives the gift (or perhaps curse?) of Lycanthropy, to Nazi-occupied Europe.

McCammon skillfully combines a wide variety of genres, adding his own unique twist to the werewolf mythology.

Readers will be on the edge of their seats as they follow Michael's adventures, never knowing what danger awaits him next.

Will he be able to use his dual nature to his advantage and complete his mission?

Or will the curse of the werewolf prove to be his downfall?

Find out in this thrilling and captivating novel.
