I really enjoyed this one, as always. Mccammon never fails to deliver a fantastic story. His writing is engaging and captivating from the very beginning. The characters he creates are vivid and relatable, making it easy for the reader to become invested in their lives and experiences. The plot is full of twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat, never knowing what's going to happen next. Whether it's a thrilling adventure, a heartwarming romance, or a thought-provoking mystery, Mccammon has the talent to bring it to life on the page. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
"You dig it?" - Full review to come
Here is my full review. This is my third McCammon book and unfortunately, it's my least favorite. I firmly believe that this book was way too long. Mary, who is a complete lunatic, gets this crazy idea into her head to steal a real baby and take it to her "leader" and former lover in a strange cult-like gang they used to be part of, thinking that life will somehow return to normal.
The opening of this book is absolutely insane! It truly shocked me. This Mary character is not someone to be trifled with. She is genuinely crazy, and the characterization of her alone is brilliant. She is so complex and so well-developed that I think I actually enjoyed reading about her the most, along with her thoughts and feelings, because they are just so outrageously crazy.
I can't remember the mother's name, but the love and dedication she has for her child is remarkable. I suspect that maybe this is why the book is so long, as it tries to fit in all the characterizations. However, I get tired of hearing about the characters taking showers and changing clothes. I mean, I do care to some extent, but after reading about it a few times, I just want to get back to the more essential and exciting stuff.
Overall, it is a good story, but it's just not my favorite by him.
