This was a fairly good Christian YA novel.

It presents a story that delves into the complex issue of a Christian teenage girl coming to terms with the fact that her best friend of many years is a lesbian.

The novel beautifully portrays how she struggles to understand and learn to love her friend unconditionally while still adhering to her Christian beliefs and hating the sin.

Despite being simply written, it is well executed. The author has done a remarkable job of developing the characters, making them relatable and engaging.

Each character has their own unique personality and flaws, which adds depth and authenticity to the story.

The novel not only explores the theme of friendship and acceptance but also touches on the importance of staying true to one's beliefs in the face of challenging situations.

Overall, it is a thought-provoking and inspiring read that will resonate with Christian teenagers and anyone interested in exploring themes of faith, friendship, and acceptance.

As much as I have a general fondness for Melody Carlson's books, particularly the True Colors series, there are two in particular that have managed to irritate me to an extreme degree. One of them is this very book, and the other is Moon White, which focuses on a girl delving into the Wiccan faith.

I truly detested the way in which the girl in this book responded to her friend's homosexuality. It seemed to me that this book was promoting numerous harmful stereotypes about gay and lesbian individuals. For instance, the implication that people are homosexual because they have endured sexual abuse in their past is not only inaccurate but also deeply hurtful. The overall tone of the book felt extremely negative.

What I loathed the most, however, was the ending. The statement "I still believe that homosexuality is a sin, but I will stand by my friend through this time" came across as both close-minded and somewhat bigoted. While I understand that these books are intended to serve as promoters of the Christian faith, this particular stance felt out of touch and disrespectful to the LGBTQ+ community. It is important to approach such topics with empathy, understanding, and an open heart, rather than adhering to outdated and discriminatory beliefs.

I truly relished this book. It held a special place among all the books I have read.

From the very first page, it captivated my attention and refused to let go. The story was engaging, filled with interesting characters and a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat.

As I delved deeper into the book, I found myself becoming more and more invested in the lives of the characters. I laughed with them, cried with them, and felt their joys and sorrows as if they were my own.

The writing style was also excellent. The author had a way of painting vivid pictures in my mind with words, making it easy for me to imagine the settings and the events as they unfolded.

Overall, this book was an absolute delight to read. It was one of those rare books that you can't put down and that stay with you long after you've finished the last page. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great read.

There was an attempt to understand.

This attempt was not made lightly. It was a conscious effort to gain a deeper comprehension of a particular subject or situation.

People often make such attempts when they are faced with something new, complex, or unfamiliar.

It could be an attempt to understand a scientific theory, a cultural phenomenon, or the behavior of others.

Understanding requires an open mind, curiosity, and the willingness to explore and learn.

It may involve research, asking questions, and considering different perspectives.

Through this attempt to understand, we can expand our knowledge, broaden our horizons, and gain valuable insights.

It is a continuous process that helps us make sense of the world around us and navigate through life more effectively.

I give this book three stars instead of five.

I was constantly waiting for Carlson to take a truly firm stance on this issue, but she never really did. At least, not in my perception.

It seemed like a back-and-forth situation that never truly reached a resolution.

The concept of "hate the sin, love the sinner" is indeed present in this book. However, I believe its portrayal is flawed.

I think that loving sinners as Christ loved us is something that Christians should do, yet not in the manner that Carlson depicted in this book.

What about the part in the Bible where it tells Christians to flee from sin? How does that fit into the message of this book? I never managed to figure it out.

Overall, while the book has some interesting points, it fails to fully convince me with its handling of this important topic.

I hope that future works on this subject can offer a more comprehensive and accurate perspective.

If I could give this book negative stars, I would without hesitation.

What an incredibly awful book it is! It is filled with such hateful so-called "religious" people. I find it truly难以置信.

The stereotypes that are perpetuated and made fun of regarding the "sinning gay person" are simply atrocious. The fact that the best friend confides that she's gay, and the main character physically becomes ill and disgusted is just unacceptable.

I just can't fathom how these people think they could be better than anyone else. I was truly sickened by the behavior depicted in this book.

And the fact that the religion in the book seemingly okay this kind of behavior and belief just feels like pure hatred.

I would never recommend this book to anyone, ever. It is a prime example of how harmful and wrong certain views and behaviors can be.

It is important to promote acceptance and understanding rather than fueling hatred and bigotry, and this book fails miserably in that regard.

I absolutely love this book.

Melody Carlson often writes about Christianity, and while I'm not associated with the Catholic or Christian religion, I could completely relate to Ramie.

In the place where I live, being gay is considered a "sin," just as Ramie titled it in the book. But I myself am not homophobic, and I think this is a truly beautiful story.

Jess reveals herself as a lesbian, and her best friend Ramie convinces herself that Jess just thinks she is gay. After losing Jess as a friend, getting a creepy preacher's son as a boyfriend, finding Joey Pinckney at the hospital, quitting the basketball team to stay away from Jess, and learning a little more about Jess's backstory, this book kept me engaged and reading.

I loved how the ending turned out! I suggest this book to any reader, especially those interested in biblical themes, to learn more about homosexuality and how people are born that way and no one can change them. I really liked the saying that Ramie's mom said: "(Jess) In a hard place, all she needs now is for you to just love her and embrace her special personality!"

Goodbye Cuties!!!

There is no conceivable way in which one can alter homosexuality. It is an inherent aspect of a person's being.

The character in the story, after much hesitation and internal struggle, finally comes to terms with and accepts her friend who is homosexual. However, it is quite absurd that she still holds some misinformed views.

Nonetheless, the book interestingly showcases how the concept of political correctness has been taken to an extreme. In the story, when that boy's teasing of the homosexual friend was labeled as a hate crime, it really makes one question the boundaries and the overzealous application of such a term.

It seems that in the pursuit of being politically correct, some situations might be misinterpreted or blown out of proportion, as is the case here. This aspect of the book adds a layer of complexity and thought-provoking discussion about the balance between acceptance and the proper application of social norms and labels.

This book delves into a highly controversial topic, namely homosexuality.

For those who have a homosexual friend and encounter difficulties or concerns regarding this aspect, they would likely be able to strongly identify with the main character.

The book does not purport to provide a definitive solution to the complex issues surrounding homosexuality. However, it does offer valuable insights into how one can maintain a friendship in the face of such challenges.

It explores the various emotions, conflicts, and misunderstandings that may arise and shows how open communication, acceptance, and understanding can help to bridge the gap and preserve the friendship.

By presenting the experiences and perspectives of the main character, the book aims to raise awareness and promote a more inclusive and empathetic society.

All the same,

life presents us with various challenges and opportunities. Sometimes, we may feel that everything remains the same, but in reality, there are always subtle changes happening around us. We might find ourselves in a routine, going through the motions day after day. However, it is important to look beyond the surface and notice the little details that can make a big difference. Maybe it's a new friendship that develops, or a small accomplishment that gives us a sense of pride. Even in the midst of sameness, there is potential for growth and discovery. We should embrace the present moment and be open to the possibilities that come our way. By doing so, we can find beauty and meaning in the seemingly ordinary aspects of life.

Remember, all the same doesn't have to mean stagnation. It can be a time to reflect, learn, and prepare for the future. So, let's make the most of every situation and find joy in the journey, no matter how similar it may seem.

Okay. So apart from the blatant fact that the author is clearly homophobic and the main character STILL desires Jessica to be straight, this book is outrageously offensive and absurd.

FIRSTLY: The MC is concerned that Jess has feelings for her. Yes. Because, you know, lesbians. Apparently every lesbian is attracted to every single girl. Yup. That's just how it is. *Rolls eyes* (It's the same as when people assume that bi/pan people are attracted to every person on the planet. Don't get too full of yourself.)

SECONDLY, the author attempts to create the idea of heterophobia with a gay character. But that isn't a real thing. Stop trying to make it one. Also, our MC believes that if she is seen within 10 metres of Jessica, people will immediately assume she is a lesbian.

This is not a book about a girl grappling with conflicts between religion and beliefs. It is a book that simply amounts to gay bashing. I'm completely fed up with Carlson's nonsense. This is a piece of garbage.
