I found myself wavering between giving this book 2 and 3 stars. There were indeed certain aspects that I liked. For instance, the issues that were dealt with were quite poignant and had the potential to touch the reader's heart. However, on the other hand, there were several things that really annoyed me. The characters, for the most part, felt flat and unrelatable. It was difficult for me to truly engage with them and understand their motives. The focus on faith was initially sweet, but it became overdone and overt. It reached a point where it seemed to lose a significant amount of its power and authenticity. Additionally, there were long sections where the main characters were describing their love to each other. These parts felt ridiculous and melodramatic, to the extent that I actually caught myself rolling my eyes. If there were more books in the series, I'm really not sure whether I would want to continue reading. It's a bit of a toss-up at this point.
