So far, this is undoubtedly one of the best novels I've read lately.

I truly appreciate the way the author crafted this book. By presenting the story from both the perspectives of Carta and Gavin, it adds a layer of depth and complexity that is truly captivating.

The narrative is filled with interesting hints and nuances that keep the reader engaged and eager to uncover more. It doesn't shy away from addressing very sensitive matters, which gives the story a sense of authenticity and relevance.

The author's writing style is engaging and流畅, making it a pleasure to read. I highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a thought-provoking and enjoyable read.

I can't wait to see what else this author has in store for us in the future.

This book is an excellent piece of reading that proves to be extremely beneficial in demonstrating self-examination regarding any problem.

It offers a unique perspective that allows readers to delve deep within themselves and reflect on various aspects of their lives.

The story, much like all of Susan Howatch's books, has its own charm and is highly enjoyable on its own merits.

However, it also goes beyond mere entertainment and serves to expand the reader's consciousness about human behavior.

It provides insights into the complex nature of human emotions, motives, and actions, enabling readers to better understand themselves and those around them.

Overall, this book is a must-read for anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them through the power of literature.

I only realised i had read another by her when I started this one.

As I delved into it, I found that I liked it even less.

Obviously, it's not my genre.

There are just too many Christians and liberals in the story.

There is an overabundance of faith, and it all feels rather laboured.

Instead of reading it thoroughly, I ended up skimming through the pages.

I just couldn't seem to get into the story or connect with the characters.

It's a shame really, as I had hoped for something more engaging.

But sometimes, you just have to accept that certain books aren't meant for you.

Maybe I'll give her another try in the future, but for now, I'll be looking for something else to read.

I am a huge fan of this Anglican Church-psychodrama series. It has always intrigued me with its unique storylines and engaging characters. However, this particular installment has kind of given me the ick.

One aspect that really bothers me is how the author writes her gay characters. It seems to lack authenticity and depth. The portrayal feels rather one-dimensional and stereotypical, not truly capturing the essence and complexity of the gay experience.

I had hoped for a more nuanced and respectful treatment of these characters, especially in a series that claims to explore the human psyche and relationships. It's disappointing to see such a missed opportunity.

I still have hope that future installments will improve in this regard and offer a more accurate and empathetic portrayal of the diverse characters within the Anglican Church and beyond.

Three stars for a Susan Howatch book?

Don't get me wrong, I actually liked it. However, boy, did this book really need an editor!

There was way too much detail on Gavin's "work" life. It was almost overwhelming. Come on, give me a break.

But on the other hand, I truly love Nicholas Darrow and the grumpy Lewis Hall. They are such interesting characters.

I am constantly wondering if I'll ever have the chance to meet them again.

Since I've read all of the books in the Starbridge and St. Benet's series, I feel a bit of a connection to these characters.

I hope that Susan Howatch will write more about them in the future.

Overall, despite the need for better editing, I still enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

I initially found the book a bit sluggish in its beginning.

There wasn't sufficient action or excitement, and I was slightly confused.

However, as the narrative progressed and the storyline unfolded, I quickly became engrossed.

It transformed into one of those captivating books that I couldn't put down.

I ended up reading well into the night on multiple occasions just to complete it.

The story was thoroughly gripping and highly involving, keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout.

It was a pleasant surprise to see how the book managed to turn around and draw me in so deeply.

I would highly recommend this book to others who enjoy a good, engaging read.

When I first embarked on reading the novel, I harbored doubts within me. I wasn't entirely certain if I would develop an affinity for it.

Oh boy, how wrong I was! As I delved deeper into the story, those characters came to life in the most vivid way. They seemed to step out of the pages and into my world, and they will surely remain etched in my memory forever.

The suspense that permeated the novel was truly top-notch. It kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning the pages to discover what would happen next.

I have been enthusiastically recommending this novel to everyone I know. Although it is an older one, I only heard about it recently. But I am so incredibly glad that I took the opportunity to read it. It has been a truly captivating and enjoyable literary experience.

An interesting read.

In the beginning, I was truly not sure if I should continue with it or not. The character of Gavin really annoyed me immensely. He seemed so frustrating and hard to like.

However, as the book progressed, something remarkable happened. I gradually found myself becoming enthralled by the story. The plot thickened, and the other characters and their interactions started to draw me in.

Before I knew it, I was completely immersed in the world that the author had created. It turned out to be a good read after all, and I'm glad that I didn't give up on it at the beginning. Despite my initial reservations about Gavin, the overall experience of reading this book was quite enjoyable and engaging.

It just goes to show that sometimes, you have to stick with something to truly appreciate its value.

OMG! I was so extremely glad to come across this.

It is related to a series that she penned quite some time ago. The same wonderful characters are present, but it's like an update, so to speak.

It is highly recommended that you read the previous book before delving into this one. This way, you can fully understand the backstory and the development of the characters.

The author has done an amazing job of continuing the saga and keeping the readers engaged. I can't wait to see what else is in store for these beloved characters.

Overall, this is a must-read for fans of the series and anyone who enjoys a good story with great characters and a captivating plot.

Howatch adheres firmly to her mystical perception of the world of Anglican priests.

She presents a unique and somewhat daring perspective that sets her work apart.

However, there is a rather bold caveat attached - don't let your mother read this book.

This implies that there may be elements within the narrative that are perhaps too controversial or challenging for a more traditional or conservative audience, such as a mother.

It adds an air of mystery and intrigue, making one wonder what exactly lies within the pages that would prompt such a warning.

Perhaps it is the exploration of themes that are not commonly associated with the world of Anglican priests or the way in which Howatch delves into the complex and often hidden aspects of their lives.

Whatever the reason, it certainly piques the curiosity and makes one eager to discover what makes this book so unfit for a mother's eyes.
