This book offers a truly captivating critique of the way people behave and what they believe in relation to religion.

It presents several extremely interesting viewpoints on how some individuals who consider themselves highly devout might actually be distorting certain elements of religion.

The illustration of this through the patient's mother and food was quite engaging.

However, that being said, I didn't have a great affinity for the book overall.

I found it rather challenging to plow through, as it demanded a significant amount of attention.

Nevertheless, I'm still glad that I took the time to read it, but I can't envision myself picking it up again in the future.

It's one of those books that provides valuable insights but perhaps lacks the entertainment factor to make it a re-read for me.

I possess this particular set. From within it, I have perused all of the books except for Miracles...I believe. It is quite possible that I have read that one as well. However, it is most definitely the opportune moment to engage in a re-reading.

Each time I pick up a book from this set, it's like embarking on a new adventure. The words seem to dance on the page, captivating my imagination and transporting me to different worlds.

I can recall the emotions I felt while reading the other books in the set, the excitement, the anticipation, and the moments of pure enlightenment.

And now, as I consider re-reading them all, I am filled with a sense of nostalgia and eagerness.

I look forward to rediscovering the hidden gems within the pages, to uncovering new meanings and interpretations that may have eluded me during my first reading.

And perhaps, this time around, I will be able to fully appreciate the beauty and depth of Miracles as well.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this collection.

Some of the works were more challenging to read than others. It seemed that I had a greater preference for those that had more imagination. Additionally, there were a couple of them with very quotable head canons.

Mere Christianity received a rating of 5/5. The Screwtape Letters got a 4/5. Miracles was rated 3/5. The Great Divorce also had a score of 4/5. The Problem of Pain was given a 4/5. A Grief Observed was rated 3/5, and The Abolition of Man was also 3/5.

When calculating the average rating, it came out to be 3.7/5. This shows that, on the whole, the collection was quite engaging and thought-provoking, with a good mix of different styles and levels of difficulty.

I look forward to exploring more of C.S. Lewis's works in the future.

Thus far I've had the pleasure of reading several remarkable works by C.S. Lewis. I've delved into "A Grief Observed", which offers a profound and honest exploration of the emotions that accompany grief. It's a deeply moving account that has touched my heart.

"The Great Divorce" is another masterpiece. It presents a vivid and thought-provoking vision of the afterlife, challenging our perspectives on heaven and hell. The characters and their interactions make it a truly engaging read.

"The Screwtape Letters" is a unique and brilliant work. Through the correspondence of a senior devil and his nephew, it provides insights into the tactics and temptations that the devil uses to lead people astray. It's both entertaining and educational.

I am a huge fan of all three of these books. Currently, I've started reading "Mere Christianity". It's an interesting work that presents the basic tenets of Christianity in a clear and accessible way. However, it's taking me a while to get through it as it requires careful thought and reflection.

Any complaint I pen down would be a blatant plea for yet another collection of his works to be assembled in a similar manner. It seems as if God couldn't have been more benevolent than to have bestowed this book upon me precisely when He did, just as He was leading me towards it.

Whether one leans towards a straightforward approach in addressing concerns and thoughts or prefers to couch them in a kind of rhyme, the pieces within this work will pose a magnificent challenge to the reader if he allows it to impart its lessons.

The author's unique style and the depth of his ideas are truly captivating. Each page seems to unfold a new world of inspiration and contemplation. It's a literary gem that has the power to touch the hearts and minds of those who are willing to engage with it.

As I delved deeper into the book, I found myself drawn into a web of emotions and insights. The words seemed to dance off the page, painting vivid pictures in my mind. It's a testament to the author's talent and creativity that he can evoke such a powerful response from his readers.

In conclusion, this book is a must-read for anyone who appreciates good literature. It's a work that will stay with you long after you've turned the final page, leaving you with a newfound appreciation for the written word and the power of the human imagination.

Why I Wanted This Book:

I was fortunate enough to obtain a free copy of Mere Christianity by C.S Lewis and devoured it. Later, I passed it on to a friend (after all, it was free). However, after some time, I really felt the urge to review Mere Christianity again. C.S. Lewis has a unique writing style that truly uplifts my spirits. Instead of getting another used copy of Mere Christianity, I came across The Complete C.S. Lewis Signature Classics at a bargain price (cheaper than just buying Mere Christianity!). So, I snatched it up as there were several C.S. Lewis books within that I hadn't read yet.

Brief Explanation of Each Book Included:

I don't see how I could write a proper review for The Complete C.S. Lewis Signature Classics without essentially reviewing all the following books within: Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, Miracles, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain, A Grief Observed, and The Abolition of Man.

- Mere Christianity: Originally a series of radio broadcasts, Mere Christianity was later organized into this book. As C.S. Lewis explains in the preface, his intention was not to convert anyone to his own position but rather to explain and defend the belief common to nearly all Christians at all times. In my view, this is a great book for Christians with questions and doubts. It's more accessible than many other books in this collection as it has a more conversational tone.

- The Screwtape Letters: This book offers a twisted perspective where Demon "Uncle Screwtape" writes letters of advice to his demon nephew "Wormwood," giving practical tips on how to trip up his human "patient." In some ways, it takes concepts from Mere Christianity and flips the perspective to show how two demons would discuss what's going on.

- Miracles: This was my first introduction to C.S. Lewis on deeper theology and philosophy. Although it's not a large section/book, I feel unqualified to adequately discuss it. I'll need to keep coming back to it in the hope of understanding it better. In Miracles, C.S. Lewis defines what a miracle is and whether miracles happen. To answer these questions, one needs to work through philosophical thoughts on reality, the laws of nature, naturalism, Christianity, and then, towards the end, after the foundation is established, C.S. Lewis turns our attention to the question of whether miracles happen.

- The Great Divorce: This book explores the principle of what if someone from Hell got to visit heaven for a day. C.S. Lewis paints an intriguing picture of ghosts from Hell struggling and feeling pain from simply walking on the real grass in heaven. It reminds me of his writing in the final Chronicles of Narnia, with the concept of "farther up and farther in," where the deeper one goes into heaven, the more real it becomes.

- The Problem of Pain: Once again, I feel unqualified to share my thoughts on this writing of C.S. Lewis. Pain is a big topic for Christians, especially when posed by themselves or their friends. "How could God allow this to happen" is a question asked by many. This work represents C.S. Lewis' perspective, but he warns in the preface that the only purpose of the book is to solve the intellectual problem raised by suffering. He doesn't claim to be qualified to teach fortitude and patience.

- A Grief Observed: This book is tough to read, especially when one knows a bit more about C.S. Lewis' history. He married later in life, and then his wife was taken from him four years later by cancer.

- The Abolition of Man: The last book in the Complete Signature Classics is arguably the hardest for me. I definitely need to come back to it if I ever become more intelligent. The best I can say is that The Abolition of Man is C.S. Lewis' commentary on the educational system. I've read it, listened to it, and even found a YouTube channel dedicated to drawing out the ideas in artistic representation. It's just a tough book, and incredibly short.

Conclusion:

One of the things I admire most about C.S. Lewis is his ability to say so much with so few words. It's a true mastery of the English language. As I get older and more nerdy, I find myself using more and more words to convey my thoughts and opinions, trying to be precise and detailed. But C.S. Lewis has all that and uses fewer words. He's truly a master of the English language, and I admire his writings for that alone. However, I wouldn't be giving an honest review if I didn't confess that C.S. Lewis has had a profound impact on my beliefs with his writings in Mere Christianity. So, take that as you will with my opinion on his Signature Classics.

I will admit that I had a better understanding of some of the classics compared to others. Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters were truly my favorites. These two works held a special allure for me. However, it must be noted that there is something valuable to be gleaned from each and every one of his offerings. Each of his writings contains unique insights and wisdom that can enhance our understanding of various aspects of life, faith, and human nature. Whether it's the profound theological discussions in Mere Christianity or the clever and thought-provoking perspectives in The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis has left a lasting impact on readers. His works continue to be relevant and inspiring, inviting us to explore and reflect on the deeper meanings and truths that lie within.

When I made the decision to read seven C.S. Lewis books consecutively, I was well aware that it would be a challenging endeavor. However, I am truly glad that I took on this task.

This series not only showcases Lewis' creative, intellectual, thoughtful, and imaginative mind but also deepens my overall appreciation for his work. Lewis encourages readers to think, ponder, question, doubt, critique, and engage with intellectual, philosophical, and theological matters. As a Christ follower, my faith serves as my anchor and defines my identity. If my identity is firmly established, then why not give myself the freedom to explore further? Loving the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength should liberate us to seek the reasons behind our beliefs. We should pursue truth without fearing or shying away from doubt. Doubt doesn't necessarily undermine our faith; it doesn't have to mark the end of our faith journey. In fact, if we approach it with humility and seek answers, doubt can propel us to greater depths of faith. And it is this humility that I perceive in all of these books. They are written from the perspective of a man who once doubted God but chose to seek Him on his own, and as a result, was abundantly blessed and able to bless those who read his books with the same attitude.
