At first, I really struggled with this book.

It seemed that the points it made were rather repetitive, and its interpretations of the stories were extremely minute.

It was as if it was saying that someone walked in a field in Narnia and someone also did so in the Bible, and that was considered a Biblical Truth.

Thankfully, I was able to overcome that initial perception.

By the end of the book, I found it much more enjoyable.

Still, I can't help but think that it would have been a better approach to take fewer Biblical truths and develop them more thoroughly over the course of the entire book, rather than having several truths presented in each chapter of each book.

However, I must admit that I am not a writer myself, so perhaps my understanding is limited.

Overall, despite my initial reservations, the book did have its redeeming qualities and I'm glad I stuck with it until the end.

This text provides an in-depth exploration of the biblical basis within The Chronicles of Narnia. It meticulously traverses all 7 books, chapter by chapter.

For each chapter, it not only highlights the biblical parallels and principles but also cites relevant Bible verses. Additionally, it includes thought-provoking questions that often uncover deeper meanings.

The author skimmed this work as they were seeking more profound explanations of the series' symbolism, similar to Inside Narnia and Narnia Beckons. They focused on skimming the Biblical Parallels and Principles sections as they already understood most of the biblical references while reading the books. However, this doesn't detract from the book's value; it simply wasn't what they were specifically looking for.

This book would be highly beneficial for those less familiar with the Bible or for those conducting a Bible study based on The Chronicles of Narnia.

Noteworthy points are made about specific books. In The Horse and His Boy, Aslan's three different voices when answering Shasta may hint at the Trinity. In Prince Caspian, Aslan's How is reminiscent of Roman catacombs. In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the stars as beings echo the Bible's use of the word “star” to represent angels. And in The Last Battle, Lewis' intention with Emeth is clarified.

Finally, Ditchfield recommends resources such as Journey Into Narnia by Kathryn Lindskoog and The Land of Narnia by Brian Sibley.

While this particular piece may not function independently as a complete narrative, it serves as an outstanding companion to the series. It truly enhances the overall reading experience. My children were extremely engaged when I read each excerpt to them as a postscript after finishing a chapter of the actual books. The way it ties in with the main story and provides additional insights and perspectives is remarkable. It adds an extra layer of depth and excitement to the reading journey. They eagerly awaited each new excerpt, and it sparked many interesting discussions and conversations. It's a wonderful addition to the series that both children and adults can enjoy.

This is a truly great companion to the Narnia series.

Christin Ditchfield does an outstanding job of shedding a great deal of light and revealing the inner truths that are concealed within the Narnia books. It's truly remarkable.

If you have a desire to reach greater heights and explore deeper into the meaning and significance of the Narnia series, then this is the perfect choice for you.

It comes with a full recommendation. C. S. Lewis, who was a professor at Oxford, was also a highly respected Christian thinker. He had the ability to defend and explain the Christian faith to millions of people through his books.

Let me put it in this way. If you have a love for or an interest in Christianity, then by all means, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

PS: The audio-book available from Audible is also a real winner. The narrator is excellent, adding an extra dimension to the overall experience.

Good,

but could have been much more in depth.

This statement implies that while something is already of a certain quality or meets a basic standard, there is still significant room for improvement and further exploration.

It suggests that the current level of achievement or understanding is somewhat lacking and that a more comprehensive and detailed approach could have been taken.

Perhaps more research could have been done, more perspectives considered, or more analysis conducted.

By delving deeper, a more profound and meaningful result could have been obtained.

This could lead to a better understanding of the subject matter, more effective solutions to problems, or a more enhanced overall experience.

It serves as a reminder that we should always strive for more depth and not be satisfied with the surface level.

Continuous improvement and a willingness to explore further are essential for growth and progress.

When I was in grade school, I was completely fascinated with this cartoon animated movie shown on T.V. It was THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.

Years later, I had the opportunity to meet “Aslan” again, this time together with my son. We both watched the Big Screen movie adaptation of the book about talking creatures, Fauns, Dwarfs, Giants, Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy, and a very extraordinary Lion.

Of course, it is a different experience when I get to read the books. But depending on the age, each reader would understand or view The Chronicles of Narnia books differently. Some would find C.S Lewis books as a way to ignite the imagination, simply a fantasy book made for children. While others will discover that underneath those stories are hidden gems of truths taken from the bible.

Therefore, I found this guidebook “A FAMILY GUIDE TO NARNIA” extremely handy. The author has done a truly splendid job of analyzing and presenting each book in The Chronicles of Narnia with fresh biblical insights.

What I gained from reading this guide book are the following:

A greater appreciation of the works of C.S Lewis.

A familiarization with the characters, their strengths, and their weaknesses.

Reading it side-by-side with any of the Narnia books and the bible can be a truly enlightening experience for the whole family.

Each chapter of this guidebook is divided accordingly in relation to the 7 books of The Chronicles of Narnia and it comes with a brief introduction.

Furthermore, parents can use this as a teaching tool for their children regarding biblical principles. It is indeed a must-read book, especially if you are a big fan of Narnia.

I was truly disappointed.

This book seemed to take biblical quotes out of context in an attempt to draw a line between the similarities of the scriptures and the works of Lewis' Narnia books.

However, in reality, if one has even a modicum of knowledge about the Bible, the connection can be seen quite clearly without the need for such forced extraction of quotes.

It feels as if the author was perhaps trying too hard to make a point rather than allowing the natural parallels to shine through on their own.

Maybe a more in-depth and respectful exploration of both the Bible and the Narnia series would have been a better approach, rather than this somewhat clumsy attempt at highlighting the similarities.

Overall, it left me with a sense of dissatisfaction and a desire for a more accurate and meaningful analysis of the relationship between these two bodies of work.

Must remember that this is designed for children, else I may give it less stars.

Thought it started out good. The initial part seemed quite engaging and held my attention.

Then during Lion and Caspian, I felt that the Biblical 'parallels' were real stretches. It seemed a bit forced and didn't quite fit as neatly as one might hope.

Thought it got better during Dawn Treader. The story took on a more interesting turn and there were some exciting moments.

But then the author, in the chapter where Caspian remarks how Narnia is a flat world, tells of how for thousands of years people thought the earth was flat. This is not true. It's bad enough that anti-theists spread this lie, but we don't need Christian authors doing the same. It gives the wrong impression and can mislead young readers. We should strive for accuracy in our storytelling, especially when it comes to historical and scientific facts.

A very insightful companion guide to Narnia!

It offers a fascinating exploration into the magical world created by C.S. Lewis.

While I did think that some of the connections made were a bit of a stretch, it didn't overshadow the overall experience.

It enriches the reading experience and makes one appreciate the genius of Lewis even more.

A Twisted Truth

In the Lord's prayer, Jesus clearly states, "Sanctify them by Your truth, Your word is truth" (John 17:17). This profound statement holds great significance. The Scriptures are not meant to be a mystery accessible only to a select few. Instead, they can be understood by anyone who approaches them with an open heart and mind. When one reads the Scriptures with sincerity and a willingness to learn, something remarkable happens. The Scriptures have a unique ability to interpret themselves. As we immerse ourselves in the word of God, the Holy Spirit guides us and reveals the true meaning behind the words. There is no contradiction within the word of God. Each passage works in harmony with the others, presenting a complete and unified message of love, grace, and salvation. We must trust in the truth of the Scriptures and allow them to transform our lives.
