This is an awesome book! It presents great stories, along with stats and research that firmly back up the significance of reading aloud. Whether it's to your children at home or to students in classrooms, it serves as a powerful means to "advertise" the pleasure of reading and ignite a deep love of reading within them. I simply gotta read this latest edition as well. It contains up-to-date research on the impact of TV and electronic devices, which is truly fascinating. Moreover, it features a great huge list of excellent books. This list is extremely helpful as it enables you to know precisely which books to choose when reading to your kids. In conclusion, everyone should read this book! It's a must-read for anyone who wants to foster a love of reading and understand the importance of it in our modern lives.

I am already an enthusiastic reader, and my kids, despite being only 2.5 and 1 years old, are already lovers of books. So when I picked up this book, I was initially less interested in the author's advice about reading and more focused on the treasure - the numerous pages of book lists in the second half of the volume. However, as I delved into it, I ended up reading the entire book and thoroughly enjoying every single page.

I firmly believe that this is an essential book for both parents and educators to peruse, regardless of whether they consider themselves to be "readers" or not. Trelease presents solid evidence in support of reading aloud to both kids and teens, and provides useful suggestions for establishing a read-aloud habit within the family and classroom. The book also offers valuable information for promoting and encouraging good reading habits in children and teens, while still maintaining the element of fun in reading.

A favorite quote from the book that really struck a chord with me is: "We have time for what we value. The people who find the time to read to a child and to themselves yesterday had the same twenty-four hours as the person who had no time to read, but did watch their favorite team on TV or the afternoon soap they taped, did find the time to talk on the phone for thirty-five minutes, and did find the time to run over to the mall for an errand." This quote truly emphasizes the importance of prioritizing reading and making it a part of our daily lives.

This book is divided into two sections.

The first section, which spans 178 pages, elaborately details Trelease's perspectives on the reasons and methods of reading to our children.

Subsequently, the second section provides short descriptions of recommended books for reading aloud.

I discovered that the latter part was rather interesting and potentially beneficial, whereas the former was almost unendurable.

Despite lacking any obvious qualifications in children's literacy, the author adopts a condescending attitude towards the topic of why and how we should read to our children, mainly concentrating on enhancing their academic performance.

Although Trelease does mention other advantages of reading aloud, I believe he underestimates the value of reading as a source of lifelong joy, a means of obtaining information and being exposed to the ideas of others, and the pleasure of the read-aloud experience between parent and child.

Coincidentally, I came across another book titled What to Read When by Pam Allyn, which made me far more enthusiastic about reading aloud than this better-known book.

I am still in the process of reading this book as my precious babies grow and develop. They have advanced from basic books to more complex picture books. Since they are still toddlers, we are still on the picture book stage. However, this book provides truly fantastic suggestions for all ages. It offers a wealth of ideas and guidance that can be beneficial at different stages of a child's reading journey.

The other information in the book is not only helpful but also extremely inspiring. It shows us the amazing effect that reading out loud to children can have. It can enhance their language skills, expand their vocabulary, stimulate their imagination, and foster a love for reading from an early age.

Overall, this book is a great resource for parents and caregivers who want to encourage their children's reading development and make the most of the wonderful world of books.
