Cretino y lucido. Genio y figura. Impresentable y agudo.

It has been almost 30 years since the author started publishing his page, against all odds and regardless of who might oppose. That's dedication.

Interestingly, since 2009 there have been no more chronological compilations. Only the one about dogs and the one about ships have been released, but none of the almanac type.

This first compilation brings us a fresher, more dreamy, and idealistic Reverte (if one can be idealistic after returning from the Balkan War). He often talks about matters of nostalgia and beauty more frequently than in later installments, where politics and in general, the idiots, occupy a greater percentage of his attention.

Reverte writes well and has clear ideas. Of course, one may not agree with them, but the measured exposition is appreciated. His articles, short, less than a page and a half, are very well constructed. A recommended reading.

Overall, this compilation offers a unique perspective on Reverte's early works and is a must-read for fans of his writing.

This item has many great qualities that make it a must-have.

Whether you are an avid reader or just looking for a good book to pass the time, this one will not disappoint.

The story is engaging and the writing is excellent, making it a pleasure to read from start to finish.

Moreover, it has a certain charm that keeps pulling you back for more.

You will find yourself getting lost in the pages and forgetting about the world around you.

So, if you are in need of a great read, I urge you to give this a try.

You won't be sorry.

The "Privateer's Patent" - that's what the permission given by the Spanish monarchy to attack the ships of the Crown's enemies was called.

The bold Spanish writer Arturo Pérez-Reverte has a "patent" to speak as he thinks. But this "privateer's patent" is not signed by a king but dictated by conscience. The second volume of Arturo Pérez-Reverte's journalism has come out (I don't think there's a need to talk about this author as few people haven't read "The Flanders Panel" and "The Club Dumas", "The Queen of the South" and "The Secret Meridian").

The first volume, "With the Intention of Offending", consisted of the writer's weekly essays written for the popular Spanish weekly "Semanal" (with a circulation of over a million copies, which is a lot even for Russia, let alone Spain) from 1998 to 2001.

"The Privateer's Patent" is an anthology of the best publications from 1993 to 1998. It would seem that the format of a weekly column is short-lived (moreover, the social and public context of the country needs to be taken into account), but the writer's talent doesn't allow these texts to age. And even now, written ten years ago, they (for the most part) haven't lost their relevance. Just like any well-written text doesn't lose its relevance. Pérez-Reverte's journalism is the voice of a man without illusions.

Alone, in the sense of being independent. Independent of ideology, clan interests, in simpler terms, of everything that discredits the genre, reducing it to the level of a lackey, but by no means the "fourth estate". Pérez-Reverte's essayism is a striving to see the world as it really is. The world in plain light. The sources of Pérez-Reverte the journalist's civic position lie in his excellent knowledge of history, personal experience (and Pérez-Reverte was a war correspondent, Latin America and Bosnia are not just points on the globe for the writer), and an uncompromising attitude towards what is happening.

The writer has the courage to call his homeland poor and useless. Bureaucrats - thieves. Sometimes those who are usually called "the dregs of society" in Pérez-Reverte acquire the features of true nobility. Although that's not the main thing. Especially since that's often the case.

I think the popularity of these essays lies in the intonation, the writer's style. Arturo Pérez-Reverte is attentive and precise. The range of topics covered is wide: from the specific world of the poor to questions of globalization. But whatever the author writes about, he doesn't rise above the reader, there's nothing of a patronizing pose in him. He doesn't teach or lecture. But he gets angry, sympathizes, suffers. Pérez-Reverte talks about what you yourself knew or guessed but couldn't express.

In his journalism, the writer becomes - a conversation partner. Absolutely alive. And that's why his texts can't leave you indifferent. Moreover, just like in "With the Intention of Offending", I couldn't stop being surprised at the symmetry of the Russian reality - the Spanish one.

It's enough to change the Spanish names of cities and streets to Russian ones in the text - and it seems as if it was written today and about us. The only difference is that in Russia, it seems, no one writes like this.

In addition, Pérez-Reverte's work not only enriches the language but also provides us with engaging and thought-provoking stories. His writing style is captivating, and his characters are well-developed. Through his works, we can explore different cultures, time periods, and human emotions.

Incisive, ill-mannered, poorly spoken, concise, and an excellent writer. This is Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

In this, his first collection of writings, he gives a masterclass on how to write without frills or fears.

Of the 4 existing books that compile his column in El Semanal, this is the second one I have read, having started with Con ánimo de ofender.

It seemed to me more focused on political topics in Spain, which I found a bit burdensome since I am not familiar with the subject.

Anyway, it is a book that is greatly enjoyed because Reverte's singular writing style is unrivaled.

His words cut through the clutter and get straight to the point.

Even when dealing with complex political issues, he manages to present them in a way that is accessible and engaging.

The book is a testament to his talent as a writer and his ability to make even the most mundane topics interesting.

Whether you are a fan of his work or just looking for a good read, this collection is definitely worth checking out.

The words on the pages seemed to come alive, painting vivid pictures in my mind and taking me on adventures I could never have dreamed of.

Pérez Reverte's writing style was captivating, and I found myself completely immersed in the story from beginning to end.

It made me realize that reading was not just a hobby but a passion that could enrich my life in countless ways.

Even now, years later, I still remember the emotions and experiences that this book brought me.

It will always hold a special place in my heart as a reminder of the power of literature and the joy of reading.
