This book was an absolute delight for me. It was like embarking on a journey to discover people I’ve always wished I knew and to gain an intimate understanding of a subject that has long fascinated me.

Krakauer, the author, is truly the best tour guide one could ask for. His writing is engaging, vivid, and full of detail. He has a remarkable ability to bring the characters and the story to life, making it feel as if you are right there with them.

Through his words, I was able to explore the lives and experiences of these individuals, learning about their struggles, their triumphs, and the lessons they had to offer. It was a truly eye-opening and enriching experience.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a captivating read that will both educate and inspire. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the subject matter or in simply learning more about the human experience.

Yes babyyy!

After a whole year of fruitlessly searching in charity shops, I finally caved and bought the darn thing off ebay. I'm so excited!

.......

YEAAA KRAKAUERRR!! It's a collection of really fun essays about niches in the mental world of climbing and mountaineering, but with an 80s twist.

There's an essay about glacier piloting that mentions that French geeza who wrote The Little Prince. I can't quite remember his name (is it saint-auuxeeiahdjfkshsj???). But I do have a book by him about piloting that's been sitting around for years. Maybe it's time to give that tiny little thing some love and finally read it.

I'm really looking forward to delving into these essays and exploring the unique perspectives they offer on the fascinating world of climbing and mountaineering.

Who knows what interesting insights and stories I'll discover?

This is going to be a great read!

This book contains some pretty interesting stories.

However, it is not my favorite among his books.

One of the main reasons is that a lot of the people in the stories seemed very unlikeable.

Their actions and behaviors were often unappealing and made it difficult for me to fully engage with the narrative.

Despite this, there were still some aspects of the book that I found enjoyable.

The author's writing style was engaging and the stories had enough twists and turns to keep me interested.

Overall, while this book may not be my top pick, it is still worth reading for those who enjoy the author's work.

Awe-inspiring stories? Horrifying stories? Listen to the audiobook, narrated by Phillip Franklin and just - imagine.

Imagine sitting on a rock ledge, no wider than a bookshelf, all night, in Yosemite Park. The cold seeps into your bones, and the rain pelts down, making you wet and miserable. You wait, shivering, for the howling wind and rain to stop.

Now, picture yourself hunkering in an ice cave, 17 thousand feet up on K2. The air is damp and smelly, and your stomach growls with hunger. You look out at the blizzard outside, hoping that the wind and snow will soon abate.

Finally, imagine climbing up a frozen waterfall in Alaska. The ice is slippery, and the cold wind stings your face. But you keep going, determined to reach the top.

These are just a few of the captivating stories in Jon Krakauer's book of essays. Each one takes you on a thrilling adventure, making you feel as if you are right there with the author. So, grab a copy of the book or listen to the audiobook and prepare to be amazed.
