This is an excellent exploration of Hemingway's other life as a foreign correspondent.

His career in this field furnished him with an abundance of material for his fiction works.

The selected articles here offer an intriguing perspective on the daily life and geopolitics of the first half of the 20th century.

Reading this book truly makes one long for the days when we still had journalists capable of writing in such a manner.

Admittedly, some of the articles are rather ordinary and uninteresting, but they are few and far between.

I have often stated that Hemingway is best savored in short intervals, which is why his short fiction is a pleasure to read.

This is essentially the case with this book as well.

I kept it on my reading table and would read one or two articles a week.

Each article, although non-fiction, is written in a style similar to his short fiction and is indeed engaging to peruse.

This is an essential read for anyone desiring to delve more deeply into Hemingway's works.

It provides valuable insights into his life and the era in which he lived, enhancing our understanding and appreciation of his literary contributions.

**Title: The Importance of Self-Explanatory Materials**

In today's fast-paced world, the ability to quickly understand information is crucial. This is where self-explanatory materials come into play.

Self-explanatory materials are designed in such a way that they can be easily understood without the need for additional explanation or guidance. They present information in a clear, concise, and intuitive manner.

For example, a well-designed user manual for a new electronic device should be self-explanatory. It should have clear illustrations, simple language, and step-by-step instructions that anyone can follow.

Similarly, a website with self-explanatory content will attract more visitors and keep them engaged for longer. The use of headings, subheadings, and bullet points can make the content more scannable and easier to understand.

In conclusion, self-explanatory materials are essential for effective communication. They save time, reduce confusion, and increase the likelihood of success. Whether it's a product manual, a website, or any other form of information, making it self-explanatory should be a top priority.

No surprise, some of these Hemingway pieces were very good, and some, not so much.

I found the ones from World War II on strangely sad. Hemingway increasingly became a caricature of the image of himself. Whether as the heroic war correspondent or the hard-drinking and fearless big-game and big-fish sportsman, this was the case.

With the hindsight of his 1961 suicide, it is hard not to find something elegiac about the joie de vivre some of those later writings try to present.

His works during that period seemed to be a reflection of his inner turmoil and the disillusionment he might have felt. The once-vibrant and larger-than-life persona he projected was perhaps starting to crumble.

The stories from World War II carried a weight of sadness that was palpable. It was as if Hemingway was grappling with his own identity and the meaning of his experiences.

Looking back after his tragic end, those attempts to convey a sense of joy in life in his later writings take on a bittersweet quality. They become a poignant reminder of his struggle and the ultimate fate that awaited him.

The book is neatly divided into several sections. Among them, my absolute favorites are the Esquire articles and the After The Wars section.

If you are new to Hemingway's works, it might be advisable to start from elsewhere. His short stories could be a great option. They offer a more accessible entry point into his unique writing style and the world he creates.

However, for the true die-hard fanboy, this book holds a treasure trove of intimate details about Papa's daily life. It's truly fascinating to get a peek into the mundane and extraordinary aspects of his existence. Additionally, his account of the two plane crashes is not only惊心动魄 but also surprisingly very amusing. It shows a different side of Hemingway, one that is both resilient and has a sense of humor in the face of danger.

Overall, this book is a must-read for anyone interested in Hemingway and his life and works.

Having delved deeply into a significant amount of fiction, this particular volume of selected reporting serves as a complementary work. It offers a contrast in the way that life shapes the creations of a great author. It is rather unfortunate to observe the naivete present in his earlier journalism. In that earlier phase, open bigotry seemed to be more widespread. However, it should be noted that the greater portion of the work was, in fact, quite interesting. It provides valuable insights into the author's development and the evolution of his perspective over time. This volume not only enriches our understanding of the author's fictional works but also offers a unique glimpse into the real-life experiences and influences that contributed to his literary output.

Hemingway's journalistic work contains several gems that are not bad at all. These works have informed many of his fictions, showing a connection between his journalism and his fictional writing. However, not all of his journalistic pieces are of high quality or are well-informed. Some may have their flaws. Nevertheless, his journalistic writing manages to capture the essence of American journalistic writing of that era, similar to what was seen in magazines like Esquire. It provides a glimpse into the style and tone that was prevalent during that time period. Overall, while there are both strengths and weaknesses in Hemingway's journalistic work, it still holds significance and offers valuable insights into his writing and the journalistic landscape of his era.

Hemingway's nonfiction can be quite captivating for those who have a penchant for hyper-masculinized themes such as hunting, fishing, or war. His works in this genre often vividly描绘 these activities,展现 a sense of adventure and a raw, masculine spirit.

However, it must be noted that these particular topics do not align with my personal reading interests. I tend to be drawn to other types of literature that explore different aspects of the human experience, perhaps more focused on emotions, relationships, or the inner workings of the mind.

While I can appreciate the skill and artistry with which Hemingway presents these hyper-masculinized subjects, they simply do not hold the same allure for me as other literary offerings. Each reader has their own unique preferences, and that is what makes the world of literature so diverse and rich.

Ambition must be a cruel mistress.

Hemingway didn't seem to place much value on his journalistic work. The kind of writing in this book filled the time between his literary masterpieces. However, even if he had never written a single word of fiction, these stories would still showcase him as a master in his own right.

The articles and dispatches are exquisitely written. And, dare I say it, I actually prefer them even more than his novels. This is prose of such beauty that it can truly take your breath away or even bring tears to your eyes.

It's as if Hemingway had a special gift for crafting these journalistic pieces with a level of artistry and precision that is truly remarkable. The vivid descriptions, the engaging narratives, and the powerful emotions conveyed in these stories make them a joy to read.

One can't help but wonder if Hemingway himself was aware of the true value of his journalistic work. Maybe he was too focused on his novels and overlooked the significance of these shorter pieces. But for us readers, they are a treasure trove of literary excellence.

Whether you're a die-hard Hemingway fan or just someone who appreciates great writing, these journalistic works are definitely worth exploring. They offer a unique perspective on Hemingway's talent and creativity, and they are sure to leave a lasting impression on you.

Hemingway's war correspondence work is truly stunning.

His vivid and detailed descriptions of the chaos and brutality of war bring the reader right into the heart of the action.

It is as if we are there, witnessing the horrors and the heroism firsthand.

But perhaps the most poignant moment comes at the end, when he reflects on reading his own obituaries after people thought he had died in a plane crash.

This realization that the world had moved on without him, even if only for a brief moment, must have been a profound and humbling experience.

It makes us wonder about our own mortality and the legacy we will leave behind.

Hemingway's work is not only a testament to his skill as a writer, but also a powerful reminder of the human condition in times of war and peace.

In contrast to Hemingway's novels, this collection of articles presents a distinct charm.

It is often light-hearted and filled with laugh-out-loud funny moments that can bring a smile to the reader's face.

Of course, it also contains scathing sarcasm, which adds a touch of sharpness to the writing.

Abundant stories about shooting and fishing are also included, providing a vivid portrayal of outdoor activities.

However, it should be noted that some of his political writing may not be of great interest and can be skipped.

Moreover, some of his hypotheses about marlin, such as the claim that striped, white, and blue marlin are all one species, are simply incorrect.

Despite these flaws, he remains a highly readable author and still the master of outdoor sports writing.

His vivid descriptions and engaging storytelling make this collection a worthwhile read for those interested in outdoor adventures and humorous writing.

God læsning.

It is truly an interesting experience to read from his more humorous and quirky side here and there.

The author's unique sense of humor shines through in various passages, adding an unexpected and delightful element to the reading.

Whether it's a witty comment, a comical observation, or a lighthearted anecdote, these humorous touches draw the reader in and keep them engaged.

It's as if the author is inviting us to see the world from a slightly different perspective, one that is filled with laughter and a touch of eccentricity.

This makes the reading not only enjoyable but also memorable, leaving us with a smile on our faces and a newfound appreciation for the author's creative and humorous mind.

Overall, exploring this humorous side of the author's work is a wonderful and entertaining adventure that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good read.
